For the record, Zach Scott the interim GM of the Mets for most of the 2021 season before being charged with imparted driving and subsequently fired was found innocent of all charges today. Not sure what his future in baseball will be, but he will probably never be a GM again.

According to this article, he was not found innocent of all charges. He was found not guilty of both DWI and driving while ability impaired. He was found guilty of both stopping on a highway and disobeying a traffic control device. From that article:
"Scott was arrested in September after officers found Scott sleeping in his car at 4:17 a.m. He refused a breathalyzer and blood test, and reportedly failed a field sobriety exam." This was apparently after a party at Cohen's house earlier that night.
With no breathalyzer or blood test to go on, the case came down to the sobriety exam. The judge determined that video of the exam indicated that Scott's was not impaired at the time of the exam. I have no ill-will for the guy, but the facts of the case do appear to raise questions about Scott's judgment, and he did release a statement today in which he said "I regret choices I made on August 31, resulting in circumstances that led to my arrest." I think it's too early to know whether he'll get a future opportunity to become a GM, but there are a ton of qualified candidates out there, and this incident probably doesn't inspire a lot of confidence in his judgment.

It appears the Mets may truly outdo themselves in continuing to Mets:

The 65-year-old Buck Showalter might not be the ranking old-timer in Queens.

The New York Post’s Mike Puma reports the New York Mets are working on a deal with former manager Bobby Valentine. Bobby Valentine remains on the Mets’ radar as a potential special assistant in the front office.

I'm not the world's biggest TLR fan, but he's a Hall of Fame baseball mind; no matter how old he is. Bobby Valentine? Not so much.

I guess he lost his campaign for mayor.

I bow to no one in dislike of Valentine but how old was La Russa when the Sox hired him for a special role? 69? 70? That's close to BV's 71.
I think in Valentine's case, it's less his age than how long he's been out of MLB at this point. Not to mention how that most recent experience went (9+ years ago).

LaRussa was 6 years removed from managing when he came to the Red Sox but he had worked for MLB (assistant to Joe Torre) then ran baseball ops for the Diamondbacks in those intervening years. He's never really been out of the game.

Valentine hasn't meaningfully/positively contributed to an MLB team in over 20 years, nor really had a positive experience in baseball at all in 17 years when he managed Chibe Lotte Marines to the Japan and Asia Series titles in 2005. There's little reason to think he is going to be all that impactful for the Mets now, but plenty of reason to think he might create a circus of some kind.

The Mets seem completely rudderless. They hired Showalter as manager, but I believe Matt Quatraro was one of the finalists for the job, which says to me they have no internal determination whether they should be old school or new school. Now they're desperately searching for a younger, sabermetrics-minded guy to pair with Showalter as bench coach… and yet apparently they're already preparing to offset that by having a guy like Valentine in management's ear.

Where ya been? (Following Former Red Sox 2021 thread)
I saw this headline and knew it was Bobby being Bobby: https://www.stamfordadvocate.com/elections/article/Valentine-called-Simmons-a-35-year-old-16571264.php

Nothing like the optics of throwing out a quote like that a week ahead of the election. He can't settle at doing a bad job, Valentine also has to make a large group of people mad at him in the process as well...

Isn’t “special assistant to the GM” usually a ceremonial title for someone to be more like a team ambassador and usually not someone who would have any input on, like, trades and stuff? I could be wrong, I don’t work in a front office.

My tendency is to be amused by anything the Mets do, but today I am finding it pretty funny that they spent big to finally fill their long-time CF hole, signing 33 year old Starling Marte to a 4/78 deal, and now they plan to start him in RF on Opening Day.

Edit: From the day they signed him:

"Starling is a premier talent at a premier position," new Mets general manager Billy Eppler said in a statement. "His play in the outfield makes the team stronger at run prevention up the middle."

Hosmer can still be useful, salary aside. Impossible to evaluate until we know the full package of players and more importantly, dollars.
