They haven't announced where it's going, but it seems like a logical choice would be Los Angeles since that's where the game was supposed to be last year and wasn't, for obvious reasons.

Probably narrow it down to a ballpark whose home team will be on a long road trip just before the ASG so MLB can come in and have the run of the place for as long as possible. The Dodgers are home the 3 games before the ASB.

I'm crossing my fingers it's not STL--we don't have a home game between July 1 and 15.

Notwithstanding concerts or other special events, stadiums with an open week leading up to the All-Star Break: STL, PHI, NYY, TOR, CIN, DET, CWS, COL, OAK, and WSH. (And ATL).

I doubt the Braves are all that devastated...this isn’t exactly the best year to be hosting!

They’ll be more than happy to let the politics play themselves out and take it another year when things are less Covidy.

The Sox are at home the weekend before the break as well, hosting the Phillies. Perhaps they can flip weekends as they're in Philly for three games in May.

Hopefully this will spur some of the major GA companies to take action also. Though not clear what they can do after the fact of the bill passing.

You shouldn't have edited your reply. Politics palsy is a perfect description of what has been happening for quite a few years.

I mean, I get it...the law is an affront to the entire country. But I'm not sure how much the knuckledraggers that elected Marjorie Taylor-Greene give a shit about cobalt blue Atlanta--they very people who elected a large percentage of those legislators who voted against the law.

Apparently the Braves are upset about this and have already released a statement. Kinda rich that they are concerned about the impact on Atlanta when they fled the city for the whiter more affluent suburbs for their new ballpark.

You could probably say the same for how much the Madison Cawthorn voters cared about Charlotte losing the NBA All-Star Game when the NC bathroom bill got passed. But they're not the target. If businesses that fund Republicans start feeling the pinch, they will be sure to let their purchased officials know. And the Kemp-supporting Braves' owners are a good place to start.

Looking forward to the perspective of @absintheofmalaise Our guy lives in the area and would have great insight on this.
I've been a bit work busy this afternoon and I'm not on Facebook so I don't know how much I can tell you right now. Personally, I'm happy they did this. I'm sure the mouth breathers in the area are upset.

I know the Cobb County government is pissed. Especially since this is now a blue county. Last week the county came out with a total bullshit economic impact projection of around $300 million for the impact the game would have on the county. Of course, they gave no sources or reasons for that number.

I can't wait to hear what the Braves announcers have to say tomorrow during the game. I usually have them muted because Skip Caray.

I doubt the state government really cares because we are a blue county and they are heartless bastards. They will make the usual cancel culture noise and get on the news with their outrage!

I'll check with some of my non-liberal friends and see what they have to say.

And the Braves owner gave $250K to the Trump inauguration and many, many thousands to Rs in the last cycle. He can go to hell.
When you say “Braves Owner”, who are you actually talking about, because as best I can tell they’re owned by Liberty Media...?

“The Braves organization will continue to stress the importance of equal voting opportunities and we had hoped our city could use this event as a platform to enhance this discussion.”

First of all, they apparently had no plan to “enhance the discussion,” that was up to the city.
But more to the point if your statement does not contain the phrase “racist legislation” I am pretty sure there’s not much to talk about.

Let’s have an enhanced discussion about equal voting opportunities right after we did everything in our power to disenfranchise voters of color and fix the next election. Sure, supper’s waiting at home and I got to get to it.

I agree it's likely heading to Dodgerland, but man it'd be cool if they did it at the Field of Dreams site they already have built and ready to go.

That’s a slick statement, not celebrating the move ($$$$) but commending the motivation behind it.

Anyways, wouldn’t Kaufman be a logical choice? They have a fantastic park that just got renovations, and the connection to the Monarchs would be a layup from an optics POV.

Dusty Baker suggested in an interview that Milwaukee would be a good choice since part of the festivities are meant to celebrate Hank Aaron.

Also, Howard Bryant reported that MLB did this in response to requests from corporate sponsors. Apparently the players hadn't even voted yet on demanding the move.

It’s a little wild to see MLB as a fairly early mover when it comes to things like this. I’m used to baseball being the “ah, fine, us too” sport. By doing this very correct thing, there’s also a side-effect of making them seem relevant and a conversation-shaper. That’s good.
