My update went through, but now every time I try to watch a game I get the following message on screen:

Error code: 1
Success Status

Any ideas what's going on here?

Did you ever find a fix for this?  I randomly started getting this error today.  Can't watch any games.

The only change I'm aware of is that they claim you won't need NexDef anymore to stream the highest quality in a browser. I almost always watch on my Apple TV or iPad though so I haven't tested that out yet.

heard rumors on various HDTV boards that DirecTV might include the MLBTV premium account to their subscribers which would be awesome for people who like to have it viewable on their iPad when traveling.  People are saying Verizon has already indicated it will be included to their MLB Extra Innings package.

Isn't Extra Innings still nearly twice the cost of MLB.tv? Why not just buy MLB.tv?

Whatever cost you save by going the MLB.tv route is wiped out by the high-speed internet required not to have it constantly buffering.

Plus, the whole 8 games at once feature.

MLB.tv doesn't take that much bandwidth. The highest quality HD streams are probably between 3-5 Mbps.

I'd agree, especially now that it plays really well on my AppleTV's but this year if Direct is including the premier version of MLB.TV then I'd easily go back to Direct.  The iPad app for Direct this morning has an ad that says its included but of course the people answering phones have no idea what I'm talking about.  I did cancel payment on my MLB.TV renewal (which had already been charged) so that if true I'll be ready to sign up.

I can't stream MLB.tv either. I'm sure I don't have the greatest Internet in the world, but I can stream HD shows from any other place I've ever tried. Any time I try to watch a game through MLB.tv, though, it is basically unwatchable.

*this includes trying on different PC's and the PS3 app, different routers and even different ISP's. Nothing has helped.

Mine is watchable, at least, and definitely worth the price. It's just frustrating at times. It mainly only happens when I try to overlap audio on it, which is my preferred setting. Hopefully the audio overlay improves this year.

That's precisely the only time when I've consistently had trouble. When I overlay the EEI audio over the video feed, it'll work fine for 5-10 minutes but then it'll buffer for what feels like a really long time and revert back to the NESN audio. I've quit doing that and save it only for emergencies, like when they have guests in the booth (obvious exceptions apply there).

If DTV gives this to subscribers would a subscriber like me who has already been charged for the year get a refund?

yes, you should be able to get a full refund up until the season starts.  I just didn't want to have to deal with people so did it online and got a credit about 48 hours after I requested it.

Anyone else having issues with AtBat continually using Location Services while watching a game instead of just using it at the start to check blackouts? On my iPad the little LS arrow is staying on as long as I continue to watch an MLB.tv game.

I'm set to go.  Have watched a couple of games through the Roku and despite no HD until the regular season, no issues.  AtBat seems to be working fine on my Samsung Android.  My husband just a Galaxy Tab and we haven't tried that yet.

I really wish SoSH would get something going to get rid of the silence during the commercials.  At least the ukelele music wasn't too bad.

I didn't see this mentioned anywhere upthread, and figured it might be of value to SoSHers...

I just renewed my annual BP subscription, and at the confirmation page I got a coupon code for 20% off MLB.TV for 2014. That level of discount (-$25.99) means the BP subscription ($34.95) nearly pays for itself.

Unfortunately I renewed MLB.TV a few weeks ago for full price, but this seemed worth passing along.

FWIW I had no issues getting my premium sub cancelled and refunded. I believe DTV's access to mlb.tv will be through DTV's login details but that's not totally clear as far as I know. I was able to get Extra Innings + mlb.tv for $20 more than mlb.tv, so it's a pretty good deal (yay no buffering issues when I'm home!).

I've never been able to watch games on my tablet (I have the 7-in Samsung Galaxy Tab 2). All I've ever been able to do on it is watch the gamecast or listen to the audio.

Something must be wrong. Last year, when I had a sub to mlb.tv, I could watch it easily on my cheapo Huawei cell-phone and a Google Nexus 7.

Is there a Chrome or Firefox add-on to spoof my browser into thinking it's somewhere other than Boston, so that I can watch this afternoon's Sox game?

Isn't today's game on ESPN?  Do those not get blacked on mlbtv?  Can you use watchespn.com instead?

Am I the only one getting a "MLB server is not available" error? This is my first year using MLB.tv...is there typically opening day jitters?

Not really. There were about a decade ago, but for the past 5 years or so it's functioned great other than the occasional random day where some server crashes or something. I think there was one day last summer where none of the feeds worked for anyone for about an hour or so.

That sounds like a connectivity issue, either your connection or somewhere along the chain to MLB's servers. Like any other online service, individuals will run into issues from time to time but opening day shouldn't cause any specific capacity problems or anything.

I haven't tried using it in a browser yet today. I know in ST it was still the old player. IS the new one that much different? I've been watching on my Apple TV this afternoon.

edit: just tried it out to see what it's like. Am I missing it somewhere or did they remove the ability to listen to a different audio stream with the video feed while watching in a browser window? I only had options for the TV with TV audio or radio as audio only.

Maybe it still requires NexDef? I know it used to, and I don't have that shit installed on this computer because I've had bad experiences with it in the past.

The 360 app with worked great for nearly all of last year was inexplicably replaced by a stripped down garbage version that took a way a bunch of functionality including split screen, half inning chapter breaks, frame by frame fast forward and rewind, and the ability to switch feeds in game (now need to back out and reselect the game with the other feed, which will restart the game from the beginning if it's archived).  MLBs explanation is something about MIcrosoft developement shifting away from the 360 to the xbox 1 despite the fact that all these features already existed in a perfectly good app that was working fine during spring training about a week ago and didn't need to be developed at all.

I also had a lot of issues with the new video player on the pc for today's sox game, but after switching to the old player and turning next def off under settings I had no lag or delay issues at all.

According to the MLB.com forum moderator, the overlay radio/ballpark feature isn't going to be available until the next Adobe Flash is released "later in the season," whenever that is. No explanation why it's not available with the new player. But it is still functional on the old player.

Thanks, although NexDef doesn't seem to be working.  Have you tried it on the old player?

Tried the park sound very briefly with the Marlins game and seemed fine. Just tried it in the A's game and it's silent. Radio overlay has worked in both cases. NexDef appears to be working. I can't believe they went to the new player without getting it to work first. It's the only reason I pay for the premium package.

Anyone willing to do a roundup of decent pay-for VPN services?  I'm looking to cut the cable cord and would like opinions on a good $10 to $15 per month VPN service.  This is all about blackout restriction avoidance...

"Unblock-US. Their website unblock-us.com"  I'm  leaning toward that one.  Anyone have any experience with it?

I know nothing about this topic, but in yesterday's game thread, Reverend posted about Chrome having an extension that handled the problem, for free, I believe. Here's what I copied:

OK, for all you people with mlb.tv blackout problems, let's get this
straight.

For the Chrome browser, there is a plugin called Zenmate. It as an
amazingly easy and very effective IP router and lets you with basically a
single click (maybe two) watch mlb.tv broadcasts in blackout areas,
usually (in my experience) with no appreciable loss in quality or speed.

We don't know how secure it is, so don't do your online banking or
anything there, but it wil get you the game.
Someone else provided this link: https://zenmate.com/

I have been very happy with iVPN.
https://www.ivpn.net/

Pricing: $15/month  $70 for 6 months   $100 per year(which is what I do)

Been with them 3 years. Never goes down, tons of connectivity options, in my case i use their customized version of OpenVPN. Based in Malta, they have servers in UK, Holland, France, Canada, Switzerland and in the US: Dallas, LA & Salt Lake City. You can choose any you like each time. They are set up to do single hops and multihops thru more than one server, they keep minimal logs they destroy every 15 mins, throughput is excellent, they provide port forwarding setup and info if you have problems getting thru a NAT router. They use separate nick and password for your account for payment purposes, this is entirely separate from the ID and password your connection software uses. While obviously designed to really let you be anonymous, it's inexpensive utterly stable and reliable.

I used Unblock-US last year with no problems and would recommend them. If I had renewed my MLB.TV subscription this year, I would have gone back to them. I believe it was also only $5 a month so it was on the cheaper end of the spectrum.

I use hidemyip - it's ~$30/yr and gets me around blackouts fine.  A bit clunky for NHL playoffs because you have to pay extra to get the feature that lets you pick where the fake ip is, so you have to try a few times to land on a country that works....but for regular season MLB and NHL it works fine.

If you use the Chrome browser, the ZenMate plugin works with basically single click functionality to reroute your feed through another country with minimal to no loss in speed or quality.

It's not clear if it's secure, so don't leave it active for online banking or anything, but it works really, really well. And it's free.

It was working great for me until it decided to jump back half an inning during the top of the 7th in the Sox-O's game. Still having trouble triyngto get it to catch back up to live action.
