On my PS3, the app isn't fast-forwarding correctly (I FF for 2 minutes, it goes back to 5 minutes before I started when I stop), or letting me select half-innings correctly.  I pick the top of the 1st, I get "this game will begin shortly".  I pick the top of the 2nd, I get the top of the 1st.  I pick the bottom of the 2nd, I got Mike Napoli popping up in the top of the 1st.

So, after giving up on actually watching the two innings of the game I was behind on due to various chores, I just left it on FF until it was live.  THAT worked, at least.  Well, sort of.  The feed kept stuttering, so I gave up and moved to the PC.

Except that the new, bullshit PC player has no pause functionality.  So, if my wife/kid needs me for something, it's no better than me watching Extra Innings with no DVR.  "Live DVR not currently on your device."  Really, MLB?  A fucking PC isn't a supported device?

This is fucking bullshit.  Both the PS3 and PC players have taken steps backward in functionality from last season.

If you use the Chrome browser, the ZenMate plugin works with basically single click functionality to reroute your feed through another country with minimal to no loss in speed or quality.

It's not clear if it's secure, so don't leave it active for online banking or anything, but it works really, really well. And it's free.

I tried this tonight as it turns out that chromecast won't work with hidemyip.  ZenMate worked fine.  If you're trying to cast it though - the default pop-up window the player goes to doesn't seem to have the cast button - so you have to click on the mousewheel button to get the player to show up in a tab, then you can cast it from there.

So the interface for MLBTV on AppleTV allows you to start in-progress games from the beginning.  Great.

Except that in order to access this feature, the app shows you the current box score of the game.

In the settings from the main menu of the MLB.tv app, you can set it to not show scores.

Does anyone know of a way to fool MLB.tv into thinking you're from outside the Red Sox area in order to watch Sox games, but on a PS3? I've read about VPNs but all the instructions are for the computer as opposed to the PS3. I don't want to get it if I can't use it for Sox games as well.

Unblock-us worked on PS3 for me last year. They have instructions here: http://support.unblock-us.com/customer/portal/articles/291530

I'm having success with unblock-us this year. I watch on the PS3 as well, but I have setup my router so I can also watch on our SmartTV and my computer if I decide to.

On a side note, I've been blacked out twice already this season (from Brazil). All I had to do was try again, but it just shows how weird mlb.tv is right now.

I've had the random blackout messages too on games that shouldn't be blacked out. But it's let me watch the game if I just try to start the stream again.

I had the same question.  They updated their website in the last couple days:

To authenticate your MLB.TV Premium account, follow these steps:
  1. Click https://secure.mlb.com/tv/activate/
  2. Select DIRECTV as your provider
  3. Login using your DIRECTV credentials
  4. Link your provider credentials with a new or existing MLB.com account
Start enjoying MLB EXTRA INNINGS and MLB.TV!

EDIT: It hasn't actually worked for me yet (keeps telling me it cannot authenticate my DirecTV login.  Sigh.

My 360 app is completely broken, constantly buffering and every minute the stream stops and I get sent back to the select feed screen

Mine too. I run it on Xbox. Complete disaster.  Anyone know what's going on?

My PS3 feed has buffered more times tonight than in every game I watched last year combined.  It's so annoying.

Not to mention fast-forwarding or rewinding takes you to some random point 5 minutes away from the spot you want.  It sucks because it worked perfectly all of last year.

Wait is this only for DTV subscribers?  I thought it was for anyone who bought EI?  This is what the Indemand site says:

New for 2014, the #1 LIVE streaming sports service now included with your MLB EXTRA INNINGS subscription, is MLB.TV. Watch LIVE baseball on every mobile and connected device.
*Product packaging and pricing may vary by cable company
Additional details on access and activation coming soon

FIOS is offering the same deal (although I already paid for an MLB.tv subscription and haven't tried to cancel it and replace it with the free add-on subscription yet).

Some VPN services such as Witopia can disguise your location. They have instructions on how to use it on an ipad/Iphone.

It's not free though.

The problem is that, as of an app update midway through last season, it uses location services on iOS rather than your IP address to find your location. Prior to that I used to use a proxy on my iPad and turn off location services to trick the Atbat app, but they fixed the loophole.

Does any browser for iPhone/iPad play flash? On Android, the way to get around location services is to use Firefox (which plays flash) with a VPN to play mlb.tv as you would on a desktop. It's a bit more cumbersome, but it works.

None that I'm aware of, and if they do exist they likely require jailbreaking, in which case you can just install a location spoofing app.

location services uses the WiFi IP address if you're using a non cellular device. not sure what the hierarchy is if you have your phone or ipad w/ cellular set to connect to wifi when able.

The ads do indeed say with all Extra Innings subscriptions. No asterisk - yet Comcast won't honor this. MLB.tv isn't an option for me on most days but I sure would like to have the option especially since that's what the commercial says over and over and over again.

My understanding is that non-cellular devices use the database of Wifi network names and their known locations from GPS devices for location services. This is also a fallback/secondary source for cellular devices. I don't believe it's based on IP addresses. This was also how the first iPhone did location services since it lacked GPS (at that time they used SkyHook for a database, not sure if they have their own proprietary one now or what).

Installed the Puffin browser, i'll try it for evading a blackout later tonight and see if it works. I wasn't aware that there was a decent flash browser for iOS. I assume it'll be rougher on battery life than the at bat app for watching MLB.tv, but if it lets me use the iPad for blacked out games I'll use it when necessary. Thanks for the tip, canderson.

It's has a choice of 4-5 providers when you go to that link.  I just copy-pasted the instructions from the DirecTV site since that's where I found them.

It worked for me this evening, let me link directv to my mlb.tv account and now all is working.

I saw that and have tried to do it twice, but both times it said authentication couldn't be done at this time or something, and to try again later.

I stopped watching mlbtv via the roku and just use my computer and I'm still almost a minute behind everyone else. Can't figure out what is happening--this is always an issue when i watch on the big tv with the Roku but the computer stream is pretty on the money. Anyone else having that issue?

Being 2 pitches or 30-50 seconds behind live action has always been a feature of MLB.tv.

It wasn't last year. I could watch in chat with people who had NESN and i was not lagged unless i was watching it via the Roku, not via the laptop.

You're probably using the new video player, which is the default one and has no way to eliminate the delay.  Last year you could eliminate the delay by turning off nex def.

You can still use the old video player, go to the mlb tv main page and click on the "access audio overlay with nexdef plug in" button, then launch the game from that page and turn off nex def in the settings.  It's a little annoying since you'll have to launch the game from the mlb tv page every time, but it should eliminate the delay.

As scottyno says, NexDef is the primary thing that delays the stream by ~30 seconds. The new player doesn't use it but seems to use the same tech that the streaming boxes and at bat app use, which also add that delay. The only way to get rid of it is to manually access the old browser player and turn off NexDef (or just don't install it).

Has anyone with TWC who ordered MLB EI been able to get set up for MLB.tv?  Every time I try I get this message:

Authorization service was not able to complete authorization at this time. Please try again later.

I may try calling TWC but I'm assuming they'll say they have no idea and this is an In Demand/MLB issue.

I'm noticing an odd issue in that the video and audio wind up out of synch. The video will pause/stutter intermittently and then go to super fast-forward to catch up, sometimes repeating the same sequences in a loop for a bit. It seems to happen more predominantly on the NESN feed (I was using our Roku -- should probably try it on other devices). Oddly, the YES feed was fine (used with ballpark audio). Other games were fine, too. Is this just a bandwidth issue? It just seemed odd that it was apparently limited to NESN, but that may have been a fluke.

I have had the same stuttering issue on my PS3. Happens 2-5 times per game.

Fortunately, the fast-forwarding issue has gotten better, now it only jumps about 90 seconds ahead of whenever I try to stop, as opposed to going 5 minutes backwards

I'm continuing to have issues across all my devices (iPad, PS3, PS4 and Roku). I really hope this gets resolved soon. My connection is fine, so it isn't an issue on my end. From reading the support forums, it seems that there are a ton of people having these issues.

You can uninstall the plugin (In Windows, go to Control Panel > Programs > Select "NexDef Plugin" or "MLB.TV NexDef" plugin and uninstall), which will cut out the step of having to switch NexDef off each time the player loads.  But you still need to launch the old player from that page every time.
