Most impressive regular season series in Sox history?

Since the Sox are already off to a historic (team record) start, I’m wondering if they just set another franchise high point for the most impressive regular season series ever - a combined 27-3 three game thrashing of the Angels? Of course, there’s been more meaningful series wins (such as down a pennant stretch) and maybe scoring differential, but beating down and out teams at Fenway is not nearly as impressive as what they just did to a hot Angels team (coming off 7 straight wins) in their own house!

I don't know if it was THE most impressive series, but man, the Sox were amazing this week. On the road, going up against one of the hottest pitchers in the game, against a 13-3 squad that's been playing fantastic baseball. The Sox just demolished them in every way.

They weren't blow-out beat-down games, but they had a truly impressive statement-making 11 game stretch in September 2016. Swept the Yankees at Fenway in 4 games (extending their lead from 4 to 8 games over them), then went into Baltimore and took 4 straight (extending their lead from 3 to 7 games over them), then went to Tampa and swept them three straight (to put their magic number for the division at 2 with a week to go).

We'll overlook that they went 2-5 to finish the season and got swept in swift fashion in the ALDS. ;)

Just looking at 2007, Sox went into Chicago on August 24 for a 4 game set and won 11-3, 10-1, 14-2 and 11-1. They were already up by 6 1/2, games at the start of that series and Chicago was no Anaheim, but those runs scored!

There was a incredibly dominant 4-game beatdown of the White Sox in 2007. They finished 4th in the Central, though, so it wasn't the best opponent out there. But it was really satisfying.

There was a June series against the NYY in 1977: 9-4, 10-4, 11-1 which was pretty good against our rivals
Yeah, this is the one I first thought of when looking back, in part because I was at one of the games watching home run after home run from the bleachers! That year's team was so good and so entertaining!

That was worth a Sports Illustrated cover, and featured Billy Martin attacking Reggie Jackson in the dugout. Pretty much the high point of the late 70s. Unfortunately the Yankees returned the favor and then some later.
I was at that game, sitting in the bleachers with my dad. As I recall, he bought the tickets Day of game.
The previous night had featured the Fenway Faithful throwing batteries at Mickey Rivers in CF.

It was not quite as dominant, but the 2003 Sox completed a 4 game sweep of a 97 93 win Mariners team in late August of that season. The two teams were going head to head for a playoff spot that season. Coming into the series Seattle had a 4 game lead over the Sox. The Sox swept, tied the M’s, and eventually won the WC by 2 games. The combined score was 27-12 so it wasn’t quite 27-3 but given the opponent and importance it sticks out as one of their best ever regular season series.

The 2016 MFY September series also comes to mind of course.

12 straight in ‘88, so important it had a name.

I’m also partial to the 11 straight end of Aug through mid-Sept 1986 since that is what first made a young child a diehard Sox fan (only to get heartbroken in October).

Ortiz hit a grand slam in that Seattle series didn’t he? I remember watching it on tv and changing the channel during it and coming back and they had taken the lead.

He was not yet Big Papi but was fast on his way.

Edit:
Nope it was in 2004.

I don't know why my brain immediately goes through other way, but the thread made me think of the 5 game series sweep by the Yankees at Fenway in August of 2006, starting with a Friday double header.

They started the series 69-50 and 3 1/2 games back and ended it 6 1/2 back. It was pretty obvious at that point that they were done. I remember I had tickets for the Saturday game and felt any post season hopes dissipate by Monday.

Sorry to be the turd!

I remember a couple things from the series. One was that it was a Friday through Monday four game series. Not sure why as it wasn't a result of a rain make-up. I went to the Friday night game with my dad and for whatever reason he said he thought the Sox could sweep. They won that game then won on a walkoff on Saturday then blew out the Ms on Sunday and Monday to complete the sweep.

The Boston Massacre. If I remember correctly, that Sox team was DEVASTATED by injuries, basically hanging on by a thread, and was starting the immortal Jason Johnson.

Ugh. I was at the Sunday night game between Schilling and Mussina. Long rain delay. Extra innings. Didn't get out of the park until like 12:30am and the T had stopped running. I was parked at Riverside and my young son and I needed a ride back. Incredibly, the two guys behind me gave us a ride. They were from NJ and were Yankee fans. Nice guys.

We were there long before game time and got to interact with four Yankee players. I'll list them here. Let's see if you guys can guess, in order, which Yankee players were the nicest (going from nicest guy to biggest dink):

Derek Jeter
Alex Rodriguez
Randy Johnson
Mariano Rivera
