Alright fellas -- we need to narrow the list down so the voting can start.

Here's the complete list so far, in alphabetical order (if I missed any please let me know):

  • All Your Rutgers Are Belong to Us

  • Chasing Chad Jackson
  • Everybody Eugene Chung Tonight
  • Parcells's Grocery List

  • Temple Beth-el Johnson
  • Trading Down
The top several with the most seconds, thirds, etc. make the final poll.

These rule. There's the alliterative cleverness of the second (which also reflects their sad WR draft reality), the punning humor of the third and fifth, and the observational humor of the first, fourth, and last.

"Wait, who?" is growing on me, especially when you put in the context the winner will have:

Wait, who?

Another vote for "Wait, who?"

That sums up almost every BB draft. Except of course the Wilfork and Chandler Jones picks (first ones that popped in my head, there might be more.) Those were more like "Fuck yeah!"

I'm sure that were tons of people who went "wait, who" regarding Chandler Jones, too.

I mean, who watches Syracuse football games?

Donovan Mcnabb? But, seriously with all the draft coverage there is now if you didn't know Chandler Jones, you weren't paying attention.

SoxScout called the pick.

ElcaballitoMVP also had some inclinations that the Patriots were high on him. Also Hightower.

I agree that he didn't seem to have as much pre-draft hype as many other first-rounders, though.

[edit to add that it's good fun to go back through draft threads to see how prescient we were(n't)]

I like the Rutgers line but think that will become obsolete because Schiano doesn't coach there anymore.

The ones that refer to weed or behavioral issues keep making me think... I mean, I was hammering the drum that letting a player drop for "behavioral issues" over smoking weed in college was absurd. So every time I see that reference, the magnitude of the irony of Hernandez's actual behavioral issues just leaves me shaking my head.

I'm casting votes for :

Everybody Eugene Chung Tonight
Wonderlic Me
Wait, who??

Wonderlic Me

Had I arrived earlier to the party I'd have thrown "Roger Goodell's Awkwardly Affectionate Bro-Hugs" into the ring, but frankly it sucks compared to most of the nominees already on the table.

I don't get it. Explain.

I wish I didn't have writers block when the nomination process was open. I just thought of "The Draft Forum: Where Punching Cops Pay Off", and any Dennard reference is like the best to me.

Parcells' Grocery List - but ONLY if the apostrophe is put correctly after the "s" in Parcells' name
Chasing Chad Jackson

I didn't love "Everybody Eugene Chung Tonight" because it's a lot of syllables so isn't that smooth to read. Unless that's the gag.

And I modded this because it could make a cool basic subtitle to the forum name:

1) Trading Down: The Patriots Draft Sub Forum
2) Wait, who?
3) Is Your Mother a Prostitute (this is #3 rather than 1 only because it means I won't be able to access it at work)but it's the funniest.

Also I loved the idea of a Rutgers themed one but don't love the particular option.

That is a good subtitle.

I vote:

1: Wait, Who? Mocks, Jocks, and Ticking Clocks
2: Wonderlic Me: Mocks, Jocks, and Ticking Clocks

And I also vote that anyone who voted "Parcell's Grocery List" get booted for illiteracy.

"Everybody Eugene Chung Tonight" could be shorted to "Everybody Gene Chung Tonight" to keep the syllables in line with the song lyric.

Anyway, some great stuff in here but my favorites are:

1.  Everybody Eugene (Gene) Chung Tonight

2.  Trading Down: The Patriots Draft Sub Forum

3.  Wait, Who?

4.  Chasing Chad Jackson

one of these names should mention the enormous blue balls element of watching the entire 1st round of the draft only to have the Pats trade out at the last minute.

I always want this thread to be called "Everyone Eugene Chung Tonight". Otherwise I think it is about our starting SS.

Anyway, back on topic: My big fear about this year's line is actually the name rarely mentioned -- Dan Koppen. I fear he may be on the verge of falling off a cliff, skills-wise. And I also fear that due to skills-deficiency or injury, we are really in trouble if he goes down. I think Koppen went from being wildly under-rated to wildly over-rated in a very short period of time.
I guess I have to vote for Everybody Eugene Chung Tonight if for no other reason than it would be my claim for SOSH immortality.

I'm disappointed that this didn't get any love. I know the meme is a bit overused around here, but Gerhard wasn't just any obscure Patriots' draft pick, he was the first.

Well, sort of.

What's the character limit? I'd nominate Ron Borges' Fortune Cookie:“On a day when they could have had impact players David Terrell or Koren Robinson or the second best tackle in the draft Kenyatta Walker, they took Georgia defensive tackle Richard Seymour who had 1 1/2 sacks last year in the pass-happy SEC, and is too tall to play tackle at 6-6 and too slow to play defensive end. This genius move was followed by trading out of a spot where they could have gotten the last decent receiver in the draft Robert Fergusonand settled for tackle Matt Light, who will not help any time soon.”

How many can you vote for?  Some people are voting for more than one.

Better idea - have people vote for 3 now - then do another poll with the top 5 and people vote for 1.

Monbo's procedural suggestions are good. The way we are voting now, allowing many votes without ranking, makes it most likely everyone's second or third choice will win instead of the majority's first choice. The two-round runoff approach fixes that and is the way political elections with large fields generally solve this problem (case in point: recent Boston mayoral election ).

All your Rutgers are belong to us
Is not getting enough love. Though I agree with Rev. Let's see where Schiano goes in college next.

I think "Wait, who?" is as much a function of the Pats' late first round picks as it is unconventional scouting.

Sure, why not one more round? Either a run off between what seem to be the first two choices: "Wait, Who?" and "Wonderlic Me?" or throw in whatever is in 3rd place, too -- there seems to be a pretty good amount of separation, i wouldn't go to a final round with 5 possibilities, will just keep the numbers muddied with entries that don't have much support.

Alright -- thread title changed to reflect the change. Depending on the closeness of the top contenders, we'll either go with 3 or 4 (thus the "semi-final" round).

Alright, we have the following names advancing to the Final Four (#votes):
  • Wait, Who??? (33)
  • Wonderlic Me (26)
  • Everybody Eugene Chung Tonight (20)
  • All your Rutgers are belong to us (13)
Only a single vote per member/lurker. Onto the finals!

P.S. Here's the semi-finals results:

Something weird is going on with the poll. It says 84 members have cast votes, but there are only 32 votes showing.

might want to put the new semifinal poll in a new thread

FIxed that Infidel. IP Board thinks the new poll was actually the old poll. All results are now cleared and we can start from scratch.
