I don’t get that from the Piston’s POV except as a precursor to another move. I think it’s a Raptors second rounder. If it’s Detroit’s own it’s more defensible, but Brown was showing some promise as a tough defender last year, the type of cheap, versatile culture guy that a rebuilding team should want. I have a soft spot for him as a tough local kid, so it’s annoying to see him headed to the Nets.
Maybe they are high on Musa. He's still quite young still and was a 1st round quality prospect in 2018, and if you're in a rebuild I think you'd rather take the shot on a guy who might be a scorer than a tough defender who isn't going to do much on offense. Brown is a good fit off the bench for a team with it's scoring set, for the Pistons he's not doing much. Musa is a shot at finding a bucket getter.

That’s true. He’ll at least be able to get minutes. Saw some good stuff from him during a Cs game. Or maybe that was Kurucs.

The owners need to come up with some sort of franchise tag for the next CBA.The NBA gossip twitter bubble does not translate into ratings and revenue growth.

I'm done with the NBA when/if Tatum bails on the Celtics.

I’d actually disagree - the constant looking ahead has made the NBA a 24/7/365 sport. If anything, I think it drives more eyeballs to the sport. Harden rumors were getting attention on an NFL weekend while the Masters was on.

As for a franchise tag... even if it was desirable, I’m not sure exactly how you make it work. Any team gives up two first rounders to sign a max level player without hesitating. And the NBPA is far too strong to allow something like the exclusive designation the NFL has that would deny a free agent the ability to choose where they work.

I mean... how do the Nets even make that work?

So salary match is:
Dinwiddie
LeVert
Prince
Allen

That's also everyone not named Kyrie or Durant who has even a bit of value. How many picks and swaps? At least 4 right? Maybe more?
If they pick up the option on Temple, and add in Levert and Prince, they are just about there.

But...that is not a very goof return, like at all, for someone as good as Harden

The 2020, 8 seed Nets core isn't doing it for you as the return for a top 10 talent? Ha.

I would do the trade I listed if I got a pick 19 (made for me) 1sts in 2021, 23,25,27 and swap options in 22, 24,26,28 and 30

He’s doing the Rockets dirty by having his camp leak that. Unless the Nets leaked it.

I’m gonna love hating the Nets if this happens. If a reasonable Jrue trade isn’t on the table, trade up for Okoro (or draft Green later) and lock these chumps up. They will combust.

...

The first part was expected, the 2nd half is interesting. KCP did LeBron and Klutch a solid. Time to see if the Lakers step up or if he goes somewhere else. He'd be a real loss for them, more to me than Rondo.
They really need him. Can't imagine him not going back especially considering the relationship and the solids done to him
Yeah, the latter not the former. The Lakers gave KCP money he wasn't getting anywhere else as a Klutch solid. Not that KCP owes them anything -- he came through big-time, so carried out his side in spades.

Given that the Lakers have his Bird rights, I assume he's going back to them.

Maybe earlier, but the 1 and 1 he signed last year was below what he had elsewhere. I agree he's probably back, but that deal was definitely made with the idea that they'd take care of him this summer

I mean, the guy that I compare Okoro to, defensively, is Marcus. And from Harden's point of view getting defended Jaylen will be his break. It would be pretty funny.

GOOD GOD MILWAUKEE

Interesting side note.... they let a salary slot walk, and it meant that they couldn't be in for CP3, so instead they pay WAY too much for Jrue.
Basically the owners didn't want to pay tax, and instead they just mortgaged the whole on-court future

Danny Ainge out here saying “Why won’t anyone trade with me anymore I never fleeced anyone this badly.”

I can’t believe Holiday is all they could get for that. He is on an expiring deal and will be 30 this season.

I assume that Jrue is signing an extension, because.... this is bad if he signs an extension, it's TERRIBLE if he doesn't.

Now... if Giannis told you he'll sign the supermax extension next week if you made the deal, then you do it, sign your extensions and hope Giannis, Middleton and Jrue is enough

If they just signed Brogdon instead of Bledsoe they could have avoided this mess....

Obviously if Giannis stays because of this trade it’s a win, but gigantic downside risk for sure.

Also as Matt Moore pointed out on twitter, if you do this, AND Giannis signs, and the team is still not a title team.... he'll just demand a trade in 2 years

It’s so much to give up that I really wonder if that’s what happened. Plus he’s always seemed to have a good relationship with the front office, I wouldn’t be surprised if they know his thinking pretty well. If he stays, those picks won’t be quite the haul. If not, hoo boy. Pelicans are chock full.

Thus far, OKC, NOP and the Blazers won today. Covington is a great get for Portland and is a big upgrade for them. Love it from a roster, if not value, perspective.

Potentially giving up 5 1sts when you might lose Giannis is absolutely insane

Anything on protections for the Milwaukee picks? That would seem to be really important...

Covington to Portland is a smart move as they desperately need big wings who can defend.

We're so lucky to be in the East. Thank you Wizards, Knicks, Hornets, etc

The bubble/purgatory teams out West are building for the future.

I don't buy Bogdanovic to MIL. Yes teams usually try to help a player out in S&T, but they need value... Bucks just lit the entire cupboard on fire, they don't have anything to give the Kings that is worth eating salary match.

A side note. If I'm Jrue's agent, I'm already on the phone to Milwaukee to let them know my client needs a max extension in the next 7 days or he's going to FA next year.

You gave up Anthony Davis trade levels of draft capital for a guy with a 27M player option after this year. He has all the leverage he needs.

It certainly would be. What’s in it for The Kings?
And that is the issue. Especially since hes RFA.

MIL has to figure out a number he wants. He has to not sign an offer with anyone else, then SAC has to agree to trade him (and get what.... White Donte, useless salary filler and 2nds?) and then make the trade.
Problem is, SAC is better off just saying no, and seeing if they like the $ he signs with ATL or someone for, then matching and trading him in 6 months to a year for actual value.

Five picks, no protection possible.
It might technically be 2 and 2 swaps for counting purposes so one might be protected. The 5th is the 24th in this year, so they might make the pick for NO then make the trade.

Also.... they owe a 2022 1st to CLE, so that is floating in the protections too.

Bogdanovic turned down a 4/$51mm extension last fall so even though the Kings had control he clearly was gone. He and his reps also clearly paved the way for this to happen. What can Sacramento do besides find a workable Bucks deal if that's where he wants to go?

They can make it clear they’ll match any reasonable offer and then trade him for value later.

There’s a reason in-demand RFAs don’t usually get to pick their destinations.
