What are the current expectations on fans for games?

No way teams like Celtics, Knicks, Nets, Bulls, Lakers, Clippers etc. have fans in December/January/February, right?

SF denied Warriors request for 50% I heard.

In this country, probably February. I know it's an awful idea but again, in this country..

I think it's pretty unlikely we get even partially filled arenas before a vaccine is out and open to the public. If we can have fans in person for the playoffs, I'd take it.

They just shut down outdoor dining in LA County. I can't imagine SF is all that different

Somewhere
I still can't get over the fact that Marcus Morris is going to be making $64 million over the next four years, while his twin brother is making the veteran's minimum.

These guys have had virtually identical career numbers. Even their earnings-to-date have been nearly identical.

That is kind of funny. I’ve always considered them to be pretty comparable players.

This was true. Markief had some weird neck injury a couple years ago that really sidetracked him and since then, he has gotten significantly worse - while Marcus has seemingly improved over the past couple years

Markieff was largely considered the superior player until he got hurt and Marcus went to Boston and then the perception largely flipped.

It really is a puzzle. $64 million vs the vet minimum, right? Eye test and stat test say little difference, and Keef had a particularly strong playoff run. Hard to figure.

Markieff did shoot 42% from three in the playoffs for the Lakers and filled out their playoff rotation for cheap money.

Don't let KOC hear you say that!

Ingram is a weird player for me. I don't understand how someone with his length/athleticism can be so bad at defense, unless they truly just don't give a shit. Which is not the player who is ever going to win something.

My problem with Ingram was always that he was (and still is) a poor man's Carmelo. He dominates the ball on offense and just isn't good enough for the role. And you really can't use him any other way. Add to that the casual attitude towards D and you have a recipe for failure. I was honestly expecting the Pelicans to trade him to the Knicks for a king's ransom (three firsts and three pick swaps) and then just reap the rewards. Maybe they'll do it next simmer.

I agree, while the stats finally looked great he has shown little evidence he wants to be great or to win. I hope I’m wrong but I suspect this will be a deal they seek to dump before it ends

Agree, although I think peak Melo was talented enough for the role, he just didn't have the drive or motivation the way the best players do to reach his full potential. Few NBA players of the last 25 years have been as gifted as Melo, but he didn't have the same kind of drive that the LeBron, Kobe, Durant, etc. had to get the most out of their natural abilities. For someone like Ingram, his problems on defense are really worrisome. Someone with his length, athleticism and coordination should not be THAT bad at defense. The only reason for him being that bad are that he has a low BBIQ, or he is just lazy, both things that should worry New Orleans.

Ingram, Simmons, Siakim and Murray got max deals from the 2016 draft class (with Jaylen getting a little bit under). Ingram doesn’t do defense but he can score, Simmons won’t shoot but can pass and play defense, Siakim looked like a two-way star for a bit but wilted in the bubble, and Murray has been inconsistent, though he was great in the bubble. Who from that list would you rather give the max to and build your team around?

I think Simmons is clearly the best player in that group and shouldn't be that hard to build around. The reason this is only a conversation is because Philly hasn't been able to get him into the ideal situation where he plays with all shooters. Siakam and Brown would probably be the next best bets, although you can't really build around them necessarily, since they are best used as #2 scorers who can play off the ball and not as true creators. Ingram is the best scorer of the wings you mention, but he isn't nearly as valuable imo as Brown/Siakam who play hard both ways. With Murray, I'm going to have to see it outside of the bubble.

I think Ingram is a bit like what you say about Simmons. He's a unique player with unique skills who would need to be in the right situation to flourish. Defensively he's a skinny dude who gets pushed around, but with his spider arms and athleticism, if protected against bruisers he should be able to thrive. Offensively his 39% 3 point shooting this year is everything. Guy was an old school player but with the developed 3 pointer he should be a stud moving forward.

I think you are all really underrating Ingram.
He was a very good offensive player last year at 22,
He shot 39% from 3 on 6.6 3PA per game, shot 85% from the line of 8.1 FTA PG (had a .336 Ftr), 19.3 AST%, 13% TOV, 28.1% USG.....
That's really good for anybody, but especially a young player. He's not a good defender, but he's not Melo bad, he's better than McCollum, and honestly Beal and a few others come to mind.

He's also shown significant year over year improvement. This was a no-brainer to give him this deal. He's making $3M more than Jaylen, coming off a season that is undoubtably better than the one Jaylen was coming off when he signed.

He's very good already, and he's going to get better.

He's not a super-max guy, but this lower max deal is a good one, he's more than good enough that he would get multiple max offers if he were a free agent. There are a lot of guys making more money than him in the league who he's better than.

Honestly there is a guy on the Celtics who makes a lot more than him that I'd trade him for in a heartbeat.

I mean yes, he’s better than the PG whose knee problem is now chronic. But he ain’t $50 million better than Jaylen Brown (in fact, he’s not better than Brown at all). And he actually was a free agent, he was drafted in front of Jaylen, not Jayson.

It is nowhere near 50 million difference though. Jaylen signed a 4/115, Ingram a 5/158. And if we anticipate Jaylen signing the max in 4 years time there will be little difference

It’s 4/107 with bonuses that can take it to 115. Bonuses that if he achieves will separate him even further from Ingram.

Aside from “hope Capela returns to form”, what is the Hawks’ plan for having a defense? They’re running some real sieves out there.

going zone, packing the paint, and challenging teams to shoot from the outside:eek:

but besides the small issue of giving up 125 a night, they are awesome!

Ha, I actually have a soft spot for the Hawks. I just can’t imagine what happens when you play Trae, Bogdan, and Gallo all together, and I’m interested to find out.

Poor DeAndre Hunter will never get to shoot.

Kris Dunn may see rather more playing time than his offensive numbers suggest he might. There's also Okongwu to help with interior defense instead of and/or alongside Capela. But yeah, it's a worry.

Still, the Hawks fan posts I'm seeing on NBA Reddit and in various blogs are pretty ecstatic with Schlenk's offseason - the watchword is "TITS" (Trust in Travis Schlenk), and a lot of people I'm seeing believe the Hawks can aim to be a Top 6 team in the East and avoid the play-in games, let alone simply make it into the playoffs. I'm not so convinced myself; in addition to the defensive issues, we now have one of the deepest teams in the league, but without much if any high-end talent apart from Trae, and a few of our young players might not get enough minutes to develop as much as they should. However, if Trae can take two steps forward with all of these shooters around him now, and Lloyd Pierce can figure out how best to use all of this talent (perhaps with help from new assistant Nate McMillan)...watch out. They are certainly going to be watchable, that's for sure!

Yes, it still isn't a 50 million dollar difference though.

Either way, you have to sign Ingram to that deal. He is movable at that price if need be

It's an extra year. And he's 100% $3M a year better than Jaylen was before the last season when he signed that deal. Jaylen had a breakout year, if Jaylen was up for a contract now he'd get maxed.

The TITS, sign me up! Maybe Nate can put away the clipboard and dress? Good point on Dunn, nice under the radar signing.

Since Sacramento and Memphis are dead to me now, the Hawks could become my alternative League Pass team. Hmmm, struggling with Top 6 in EC: Mil, Bos, Miami, 76ers, Tor, Indy, and the KD & Ky Show. They could probably battle Orlando?

Going from 20-47 to the playoffs would be a huge turnaround.

What's the JC situation, what do they say about him on the Sons of Scott Hastings?

Same. I was excited to see what happened in Houston last year too. There should be some stupid high scoring games with Atlanta next year. Seems like a good idea when you're trying to rebuild a program. Get people excited!

I'm looking forward to games between the Hawks, Suns, and Mavericks. There'll be scores straight from the 70s.

Collins wants to sign (but how close to the max?), and the team wants to sign him - but I suspect something might happen before we get there.

Also, I'm partial to the Sons of Jon Contract Koncak myself...
Word from reputable people is he asked for the max and Atlanta sure seems to be building like they're going to let him look for a deal and if it's anywhere near the max they'll wish him well with his future endeavors
