Dedmon's had issues with the coaching staff, so I'm hoping this is just Miami clearing a locker room cancer.

The Heat had only nine players available for the game and Dedmon was one of eight they used in the first half. He entered late in the first quarter, then was subbed out with 9:25 left in the half. That prompted an argument on the Heat sideline, and Dedmon swatted at one of the massage guns behind the bench.

The device sailed onto the court -- coming to rest about 35 feet from where Dedmon was standing -- while play was happening. Dedmon was ejected for unsportsmanlike conduct.

Dedmon has a long history of being clueless both on and off the court. His BBIQ is as low as any player I’ve seen in this league over the past decade. I posted years ago I never thought he’d play another minute in the league after his showing in Atlanta(?) but kudos to Spoelstra who was able to get something out of this time bomb.

under 24 hours left to the trade deadline, not much going on. Seems like most people agree, unless Toronto brings down their asking price on guys not much is gonna happen.

They were already under the tax, but just by a hair. This allows some breathing room for buy out guys/trades.
It primarily rids them of an idiot who wore out his welcome at yet another destination. I think he had more recent issues with the coaches too.

Agree with this. Probably just a proactive move because he's not in their second half plans. It looks like they are also auditioning Jamaree Bouyea with a 10 day deal, while many of their guards are banged up.

This just came across from my source:

The Lakers, Jazz and Timberwolves are in discussions on a three-team deal that would send D’Angelo Russell to the Lakers, Russell Westbrook and draft compensation such as a first-round pick to Utah and Mike Conley Jr. to Minnesota

Edit: Apparently it was a Shams copy/paste.

If memory serves, most of the wheeling and dealing usually takes place on the final day. That's when the C's traded for Derrick White, and also when they acquired IT and, earlier, reacquired Antoine Walker.

I believe this is what they refer to in the business as a lateral move.
I'm by no means a DLo fan, but his 39% from 3 on 7 attempts a game (likely more as Lebron's sidekick is) going to do wonders for their offense. And their defense... well, that will hopefully just stay as bad as it is and not get worse.

Yeah, the shooting is an upgrade over Westbrook, but I'm not sure I'd go so far as wonders. That's 9 or ten more threes every 100 shots; even with that, they'd be underwater NRTG-wise by 80 or so points on the season. Rough math, ceteris paribus, obviously, but what the Lakers need is two superstars who are young and healthy, and they ain't got that. It's a desperate move.

I would prefer Conley if I was LAL
100%.

No it’s never tagged where the info comes from so sometimes it’s from a source such as Shams, Woj, etc and other times it’s info that’s not yet published. That part is annoying to me but it is what it is.

Woj reported that Westbrook and Ham got into a heated verbal exchange at halftime last night. The Lakers might just be willing to do any deal at this point that gets him out of town.

If that trade happens I badly want to see the Jazz knock the Lakers out in a play-in game (or just keeping them from making the playoffs in a must win game for the Lakers)

So DAR makes more than Conley, but Conley has another year and DAR is a free agent. I havent seen him play much this year, is Conley cooked? I'd rather have him than DAR

Seems like Danny will want more than one first for Conley, Vanderbilt, Beasley and swallowing Westbrook—unless part of the value is telling Russ to shoot 40 times a game to help tank and improve their pick maybe.

To get up to Westbrook’s salary they need some of Beasley, Olynyk, Clarkshon don’t they?

Lakers get:
D'LO
Vanderbilt
Beasley

Jazz get:
Westbrook

T'Wolves get:
Conley

...works under the cap per FanSpo trade machine.

Lakers giving up $47m, getting $51.1m
Jazz giving up $42.4m, getting $47m
Wolves giving up $31.3m, getting $22.6m

My main question is how do the Wolves get by far the best player in the deal, on the best contract, while giving up a negative player (per LEBRON), & get to save $8.7m...all without having any picks to give up. Knicks 2nd this year? '28 1st?

that would be fantastic if Danny can get out of Conley's $24MM next season and gather 2 Lakers 1sts, while still having the chance of making the play-in game

I find myself rooting for the Jazz

Agreed. That’s two unprotected firsts as a starting point. Danny will excise a Laker tax without question on a deal like that.

You get PAID to facilitate deals as a 3rd team in this league. Utah and LA need Minny involved to achieve their objectives of moving Conley and Russ so the Wolves have leverage here.

Somewhere
@JM3 The Lakers are paying for Vanderbilt (cost controlled, good bench piece) and for whatever reason don’t like Conley. Wolves get to fill in the gap, which is a privilege that gets them a little extra.

Lakers already have two small guards in Schroder and Beverly that this version of Conley isn’t much of an upgrade on if at all. Whereas DAR can have a greater impact both now and moving forward.

But Westbrook for Conley/Vanderbilt/Beasley also works?

You have to think Russell is a better player than Conley to need to bring the Wolves in if the Wolves aren't chipping in draft assets. Or you could just think they are comparable and getting smaller assets from the Wolves (like the Knicks 2nd) I suppose.

Nvm - I withdraw my objection. I guess the Lakers see DLo as a core piece to lock up long term & don't think that will be an awful decision so they therefore think this is a good idea.

I think he's a great long term idea for LAL! Maybe the media can help get him an all NBA spot for a super max?

I like Beasley, he can shoot; don't want him on the Lakers. Russell on the other hand, by all means, grenade that team with your 3-17 nights.

They’ve been trying to do any deal that gets him out of town for the past year +. Doubt much changes now.

He has zero value aside from salary matching purposes. I’m sure they want to trade him now for anything useful, just like they did in the off-season.

If Toronto mostly sits out this deadline, I think they probably trade at least one of their guards, Ainge is really going to clean up.

There are so few sellers, only 5 teams in the league are more than 2 games out of a play-in spot, that they should be able to get exorbitant prices on their guys.

Ainge holding at least 5 guys he can deal that can fit into a playoff teams rotation (the three in this Laker rumor, Olynyk and Clarkson), should have him fielding phone calls non-stop.

Really interested to see what he ends up walking away with.

Also looking forward to see how many teams San Antonio bails out of tax penalties. They should also do really well.

It amazes me how much hatred there is for the Lakers. I get it, they were a great and hated rival in the 80's. Why the need to hang on to that anger though? Let it go friends :)

Russell is a significantly better shooter than Beasley...

Is he?

Russell is 36% for his career on 8.3 attempts per 36

Beasley is at 38% on 9.4 per 36
I should have prefaced that comment with "this year", otherwise yeah, it's a dubious claim.

This year, though, Russell is 39.1% to 35.9%, TS% .604 to .535, eFG .567 to .522. Beasley does shoot 3s at 50% more volume.

They are both disastrously negative on-off players throughout their career, also, so they have that going for them.

It's not about hate or being angry at the Lakers. In this scenario we'd be watching RWB take back a little pride for himself after being scapegoated in LA. That's highly entertaining NBA basketball to me. Narratives like that are part of what make this league so much fun to watch.

And the Lakers have mismanaged their roster terribly for years despite being fortunate enough that LeBron James just decided he wanted to be there. It would be satisfying to see them finally reap what they've sown.

It's not so much his production so much as adding the threat of a shooter to their offense (and if they add Beasley too, that'd be really nice). No one else on the team besides Lonnie Walker shoots half as much as 8 per game, and they do it at a below average rate outside of Matt Ryan.
