New, bigger ads?

Just started noticing today a big new banner ad at the top of the home screen and then one of those floating ads along the right hand side of the screen that actually sometimes covers up the "Latest Threads" box. Is this for everyone or is there something screwy going on?

I got one of those giant banner ads earlier today (and it was rather disturbing BTW). Only saw it once, have not seen it since.

I got those today too, but I reinstalled Ad Block Plus and they're gone.

I had previously unblocked ads on the site (because you guys deserve it), but the appearance of that monster banner made me turn blocking back on.

Not to mention the huge "Unaltered images for mature audiences!" label...

Yup, I'm seeing it as well. Google must have done something, I'm looking into it. Definitely nothing done from this side.... (want less ads, not more)

Has this gotten bettter? Google added some new ad code since the last time I actually updated anything code-wise, like 3 years ago. There is a new default to be reflexive or something. I *think* that I turned it off.

I'm still seeing the giant banner at the top, it's usually only there when I visit the home page.
The guy with the fat belly and giant liver pointing at him is especially disturbing. First of all, how does google know that I am fat, and will probably need a new liver due to alcohol abuse?

I'm still getting a big banner ad at the top (I ordered flowers the other day, so it's for a florist).

On the plus side the floating ad on the right hand side is now 2 women in yoga pants.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that saw the fatty liver ad. It had me a bit freaked out because my wife and I were talking about someone we know that was diagnosed with one and I figured Google was listening in on the conversation.

I especially disliked that ad and told google not to show it to me anymore within 15 minutes of the ads starting the other day.

Google is a real piece of shit. They turned on a default of "auto ads" somewhere, somehow in the past few weeks. I've disabled it but since changes are immediate it just takes a bit to figure out how to back out of them.

Also noticed we're in the red for ad revenue sice Adsense pays way less then ever and we don't have Amazon anymore. We probably need to find a way to supplement by about $80 a month. Not a pressing priority, I don't mind carrying it for now.

A SoSH Christmas Telethon! Live-streamed! With crappy gifts like PBS gives out!!

Maybe the Maura Tierney Collection on DVD, the ability to post as one of Instaface's long-lost accounts for a period of time--you know, stuff like that.

Have a feature where if you really like a post you can donate a couple cents as a thank-you for it. Micropayments, you know? Except it all goes to Nip, not the poster who wrote the good content.

Or you could pay, I dunno, $5 or $10 to mute a poster (they can't post) for a day, or a couple days. The price doubles each subsequent time you want to mute the same poster.

There have gotta be plugins for this stuff.

We did just have a few subs go through on Stripe from the ‘old’ site. I wish that I could thanks those folks individually but just know that every little bit helps. Thanks!!!
