Different case, though. Because of the dynasty, it would be easy to accept that tradeOkay, maybe I'm wrong about Rodgers.
If the Pats had the #3 pick and GB offered Rodgers straight up for it, who here would be happy to make that deal?
I'm not even sure what benefit there is to a Patriots smokescreen--does he mean they really want Fields? Does he mean they are happy at 15? If so, the smokescreen is kind of meaningless.Booooooooo

Evan Silva:
Lombardi on Justin Fields to #Patriots rumors: “These things are out of control. It’s one of the great, great smokescreens I’ve ever seen of all time. ... There’s no fact to it.”
I'd do that in a heartbeat.. The odds of anyone in this draft giving you even 1/3rd of the value in their entire time in NE that Rodgers would give you in 3 years is pretty low.Okay, maybe I'm wrong about Rodgers.
If the Pats had the #3 pick and GB offered Rodgers straight up for it, who here would be happy to make that deal? (And the rumor has SF offering much more than just the #3.)
Yeah, true. I guess I'm a little surprised that people think SF's offer is a reasonable one. Rodgers is 37 and seems to always come up a little short.Different case, though. Because of the dynasty, it would be easy to accept that trade
That’s a slam dunk.I'd do that in a heartbeat.. The odds of anyone in this draft giving you even 1/3rd of the value in their entire time in NE that Rodgers would give you in 3 years is pretty low.
This is an honest question, no snark intended: do people forget that this is standard operating procedure for the Pats? To leak a QB they "want" (Tebow, Mayfield, Jackson) so that people report on that and not on who they really want to draft?I'm not even sure what benefit there is to a Patriots smokescreen--does he mean they really want Fields? Does he mean they are happy at 15? If so, the smokescreen is kind of meaningless.
Yes, but you also have to consider the odds that Rodgers will decline substantially as soon as this season, the difference in salary against the cap between him and the rookie QB, and the possibility that the rookie QB stars for you for the next 15+ seasons.I'd do that in a heartbeat.. The odds of anyone in this draft giving you even 1/3rd of the value in their entire time in NE that Rodgers would give you in 3 years is pretty low.
Please be true. Please be true. Please be true.
which means that every team at the top of the draft thinks it's a sellers market and are looking for maximum haul. As a result, I wouldn't be shocked of we see no trades at the top.
I guess the top of the draft teams are now fighting back against the previous PR campaign that they were a lot more teams trying to move up than down.
And they will be banned from both threads. I will not hesitate to remove anyone from both threads who does not follow the rules of the NO SPOILERS thread.Yup.
Not my lane, but I think anyone who does that in a way that clearly isn't an accident should get banned from both threads.
IIRC, if a trade happens, the clock resets to 15 minutes for the new team, yes? Thus the time window for when Pats woudl be on the clock, barring a trade up, could move significantly later, right?
For reference, this would presumably also cover someone starting a thread about a trade or pick that hasn't been officially announced? "Welcome to NE Justin Fields" while NE is on the clock for example. And they will be banned from both threads. I will not hesitate to remove anyone from both threads who does not follow the rules of the NO SPOILERS thread.
I am not sure. At first glance, I believe this answer is no. Last year, they let teams stop the clock with trades because everything was virtual but I don't think that's a normal practice.IIRC, if a trade happens, the clock resets to 15 minutes for the new team, yes? Thus the time window for when Pats woudl be on the clock, barring a trade up, could move significantly later, right?
I am pretty sure they get whatever time is remaining on the clock.IIRC, if a trade happens, the clock resets to 15 minutes for the new team, yes? Thus the time window for when Pats woudl be on the clock, barring a trade up, could move significantly later, right?
This is correct.I am pretty sure they get whatever time is remaining on the clock.
The sort of real-life what if to this is what if the Colts had kept Manning and traded the #1 pick for a boatload of stuff to build around him for 3-4 years?I'd do that in a heartbeat.. The odds of anyone in this draft giving you even 1/3rd of the value in their entire time in NE that Rodgers would give you in 3 years is pretty low.
I am pretty sure they get whatever time is remaining on the clock.
Post that in the other thread and see what happens! With the 1st overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, the Jacksonville Jaguars are taking QB Trevor Lawrence, Clemson
Good point. That probably would have worked out better for them in hindsight, since the closest they got to a title with Luck was 45-7 in the AFCCG.The sort of real-life what if to this is what if the Colts had kept Manning and traded the #1 pick for a boatload of stuff to build around him for 3-4 years?
Daniel Jeremiah said the same thing this morning on the Dan Patrick Show ... he said they want LanceGlazer: Saints trying to move up into the top 10

I heard they talked to Mayfield, but I don't really recall an orchestrated leak about that. This is an honest question, no snark intended: do people forget that this is standard operating procedure for the Pats? To leak a QB they "want" (Tebow, Mayfield, Jackson) so that people report on that and not on who they really want to draft?
They did it once before, trading from 27 to 14 to get LattimoreGlazer says its not for a QB but its hard to imagine the Saints paying that kind of price just to draft a corner or something.
I totally forgot that they did that. They did it once before, trading from 27 to 14 to get Lattimore
Also for DavenportThey did it once before, trading from 27 to 14 to get Lattimore

My bad it was for Davenport, not LattimoreAlso for Davenport
Yep. Need to wait until after the pick is officially announced to start threads like your example. For reference, this would presumably also cover someone starting a thread about a trade or pick that hasn't been officially announced? "Welcome to NE Justin Fields" while NE is on the clock for example.
Completely agree with this, especially with how brutal the TV coverage is trying to milk as much as possible out of the night. There's nothing worse than seeing the pick is in and waiting another 5 minutes for them to get around to announcing it.Promise it won't be me. Seriously though, i think in 2021 the default is spoiler-friendly, so if a thread isnt labeled I would give someone a pass. But in this case, to specifically spoil in a thread that says NO SPOILERS is a dick move
I just feel too invested in finding out the answer before the draft to stop now...spoil away
I can't imagine a scenario where Fields falls to 15.Dane Brugler, of The Athletic, with his final mock:
Fields falls to Pats at 15.
2021 final NFL mock draft: 49ers, Broncos, Patriots welcome new QBs in Mac Jones, Trey Lance and Justin Fields – The Athletic
I can see the outside chance.I can't imagine a scenario where Fields falls to 15.
There is a scenario where the current 14 teams in front of the Patriots don't draft him. But I can't imagine a team like the Bears, Raiders, WFT, Colts, Steelers, Saints, or Tampa don't jump up to 7-14 to snag a potential franchise QB. I don't think the league lets him tumble all the way to the Patriots at 15.
Do you get locals? It's on ABCHow does one watch this if they don’t have cable?
