That Bill took him with 7 minutes on the clock without even trying to take offers suggests this was his guy. Amazing game of chicken he played after pick 3. Waiting to see if someone would trade with Minnesota must have been crazy and I wonder if they had a plan B.

A bunch of great throws there. Yes on a few the receiver is wide open. But there are some sweet throws to all parts of the field there. An absolute laser into the back of the end zone on one, a beautiful deep ball to a well-covered receiver, a gorgeous sideline pass after evading the rush. He's a good quarterback, people. Not the best in this class, but he's good.

Yeah... if they had traded up for Mac I would have been devastated & not just sad lol.

I 100% agree that this was the year...but yeahhh, I don't think it's the solution & with Fields dropping that far it hurts that much more.

I think he's more Colt McCoy than Tom Brady. But yeah. We shall see.
Yeah I would rather have moved up a few spots to get Fields too. Oh well.

That's a harsh curve. *Every* qb is closer to mccoy than brady.

Was there a can’t miss player on the board that made this pick a bad one or is this just disappointment about Fields? Chicago paid a lot. Dallas clearly wasn’t interested in moving down too far.

A few? Like 7 out of the 10. Hopefully he’s teachable, cause you rarely see separation like that in the Pros.

Pats would have needed to pay less to flip picks as 15 is worth more than 20 but I don’t think BB likes Fields. Lombardi was pretty strong on this opinion pre draft.

Hope the Phillips kid can stay healthy and avoid concussions. But at least now he's getting paid for the risks.

Why didn’t you send this intel to Belichick before he made the pick?
No, no, no. BB knows Jones can't run, can't throw, and has a weak arm. But he knows he'll make up for it because BB has an all-star cast of wideouts that will get, what, 8 yards of separation on average.

Went back and watched Jones' highlights from last year, it's amazing how many of his TDs were underthrown by 5 yards to guys who were 8 yards open.
Won't be a problem. Patriots receivers aren't that fast. He'll hit them right in stride.

Wow. A lot of quality options on the table for NYG here. I'd go Darrisaw and not think twice.

Honestly, the thing with Jones falling (at least relative to the recurrent SF rumors) is that none of the position player guys we were hoping might fall did. They weren't getting someone in the top tier of non-QBs. Very much fine with this one.

I like this pick, especially considering that they didn’t need to trade up. I would have preferred Fields, because I think he’s the more exciting player but there has been so many can’t miss players who bust, and so many afterthought players to become stars you just never know.

I get that we can be frustrated that the Pats didn't trade up for Fields. Lance was out of reach. So Fields was the alternative. But the Giants got a crap ton from the Bears to trade the pick to Chicago, and that took NE out of the running. It looks like JG probably will stay in SF for at least 2021. So what were the actual QB options for the Pats for 2021? Cam? Stidham? Or Jones, a guy that BB likes, which costs you nothing extra to add?

I dunno...seemed like a no-brainer to me at that point.

I'm still shocked that the Pats seemingly liked MJ more than Fields. Let's Go -- looking forward to the camp competition.

On the throws where the guy is covered well, Jones threw dimes, at least in that video.
Well, I saw a good adjustment by a receiver and a couple of others where he did throw a good ball, but also didn’t have a D-Linemen within 5 yards of him. From a pure throwing-to-a target perspective, yeah - he’s got skills. But nothing in that video instills excitement. BUT - what did Brady’s too 10 video look like (disclaimer: I’m NOT comparing MJ to TMFB)?
Honestly I am excited, ‘cause BB saw something in this QB to take him at 15 when he could have taken someone else or traded down.

“Bill Belichick, who has been anything but a genius when it comes to drafting, just made a mistake taking Mac Jones. He's certainly no Brady. Slower release. Below-average arm. Can get a little panicky. Good luck, Coach Subway. Brady is on his way to winning a 2nd SBowl in Tompa.”

Skip had one of these prepared for all 3 options. He's all-in on BB being secretly mediocre and only achieving thanks to Tom.
