The NFL is a funny business. If I was the following teams drafting ahead of the Patriots, I'd take Fields/Lance in a heartbeat...

3) 49ers
7) Lions
8) Panthers
9) Broncos
11) Giants
12) Eagles

If I was 1 of these teams I'd strongly consider it...

2) Jets
4) Falcons
6) Dolphins
14) Vikings

& if I was 1 of these teams drafting behind the Patriots, I'd strongly look into trading up to get them:

19) WFT
20) Bears
21) Colts
24) Steelers
28) Saints
67) Texans

I can't imagine a scenario where Fields falls to 15.

There is a scenario where the current 14 teams in front of the Patriots don't draft him. But I can't imagine a team like the Bears, Raiders, WFT, Colts, Steelers, Saints, or Tampa don't jump up to 7-14 to snag a potential franchise QB. I don't think the league lets him tumble all the way to the Patriots at 15.
This is right where I’m at, which is why I think Fields and Lance go 7 and 8 via trades.

I'll be there as well. Mind you, my contribution will be limited to sarcastic attempts at humor that will often fall flat and will contain no insightful commentary or analysis whatsoever, but hey, game thread.
4thed on the non spoilers
Will be joining you guys in there
I love the draft sound preceding a Goodell walk even though I hate his guts
Gonna be fun drafting this “high”

I think this will be the first year I watch the draft (well, have the TV sound on whilst I do other shit) so I suppose I would want the non-spoilers.

I'll still never forgive that inconsiderate person that broke the news of Rob Stark's death in the Red Sox game thread three hours before I could watch it.

Ok, please indulge this Vikings fan for a moment. Let’s say the OLs we like are gone by 14 but that one of the 5 QBs is still there. We’re fielding calls from teams looking to move up. Spielman would love to end up adding a second rounder if he trades down. Washington has made an ok offer. The Saints (who made a 4 for 1 pick trade with us in the mid rounds last year) have made an aggressive offer, but dropping back to #28 is pretty far. So Spielman calls NE, tells Belichick we have offers from teams looking to jump ahead of NE, and wants to know if you’re interested in flipping spots and if so, by offering what? You’re BB. What do you say/do/offer, if anything?

Assuming it is the QB I want, probably the 120th pick

Trey Lance is now the betting favorite at Bovada at the #3 pick.

Currently sits at Lance -165 with Jones falling to +120.

It sounds like steam, not knowledge, moving the line, but not 100% sure.

I'm thinking the same thing. I wish there was an insider at the book who could tell if it's just herd momentum vs. sharps getting tipped off to something.

Pat McAfee and PFTCommenter are moving the lines. And I think it's possible that they actually know stuff. Today is crazy.

A lot of reports out there that GMs are calling teams with picks in the Top 10. They're trying to gauge cost of trading up if a player they like is on the board. Important to note: What the hell else are they supposed to be doing while they wait for the friggin draft to start?

Calling your GM peers to shoot the shit generally and specifically is as basic as a farmer putting a pail under a cow before milking it. Most of these guys are GMs for short stretches. Might as well play the part while there.

The last thing a GM wants is to have his owner say, "How come we didn't trade up to 6 to get that guy?" and have to say, "Gee, I didn't actually call..." So, there are a lot of calls. Register excitement over news of this at your own discretion.

Stall and hope they miss submitting their pick.

The Bears are primed to do something reckless tonight. More rumors that they are hot to move up, this time for Fields. But at 20, they seem to be sitting outside the range of the consensus first-round-grade players, so they’d have to pay a premium to jump up. But Pace & Nagy have their backs against the wall here. Will the McCaskey’s let Pace burn future resources for a QB?

Well, it worked really well the last time they traded up for a QB.

If this is true and the niners did offer you no. 3 (can have fields or Lance) as well as Jimmy G, why would the Packers not do that?

Of course that might not have been the offer.
They don't save anything against the cap by trading Rodgers, so short answer is they can't afford Jimmy G.

Plus they may think the situation is still salvageable or that they can get a better offer.

I don’t get it. I don’t see the Rodgers timeline aligning with that of the Niners? They were 6-10 last year...they don’t seem “one elite qb away” from being a major SB contender. Is it worth giving up the farm for 11 wins and a guy who is likely retiring in 213 years? I’d draft a young stud

I'm pretty sure their Vegas over/under wins is like 10.5. People think they are a playoff team.

They went to the SB with JG two years ago. Last year they were unbelievably decimated by injuries like no team I've ever seen before. Often playing their QB3. So they have plenty of talent and if they added Rodgers, holy smokes they'd be good.

The Niners fully believe they have a team ready to contend with a good QB. It's why they went after Brady last year, it's why they say they want to keep JimmyG even if they take a QB at #3. They were 6-10, but crushed by injuries. They are a much better team than that.

If they're healthy and have Rodgers they can win the SB.

I actually think there's a prevailing thought that they are one QB away.

Last year they played without their top 3 pass rushers (including a game-changing one), their QB and their starting center.

NFC West is already going to be a ton of fun, but imagine if it's Rodgers-Wilson-Stafford-Murray?! It'd be the most competitive division in league history. It's already going to be up there with whoever's behind center in SF this year.

Pythag was 8-8, and they had insane injury luck.. went through 3 QBs, 5 RBs, lost the best TE in football for 8 weeks, rotating WR injuries, best defender played 2 games, bunch of other key guys with injuries... that should be a 10 win team this year with Jimmy G, with Rodgers they'd be up with the Bucs as NFC favorites

Their entire team got hurt last year.

I doubt there's enough time to get a Rodgers deal done by tonight.

Which then leads to the question of, if it's possible at all, would the niners draft Fields (or Lance) over Jones because that's who the packers would want?

Niners with Rodgers would be a championship contender; Rodgers and Shanahan together would be pretty deadly. I think this might just be draft day leverage for Rodgers, clearly the Love move bothered him a lot (as it should have). I kind of think Rodgers is a bit of a crybaby who has gotten an unbelievable pass by the media over the years for continuing to come up short in the playoffs, but if I'm San Fran it is a no-brainer.
