See Browns, ClevelandIf you preach "best guy plays" and then don't extend that to the QB, you get a locker room revolt.

Slayton is probably the most obvious one out there. Doubt the Jags would eat the dead cap for Kirk. Jakobi Meyers has been banged up but maybe he’d be an option. If the Pats could get a 6th for Bourne, I’d take it but I can’t imagine anyone would want him.Problem is, who is left to trade for? Kendrick Bourne? There was some Cooper Kupp chatter but the Rams are healthy again and .5 games back in the NFC West. The rest of the obvious WR trade candidates are gone.
Mike Williams would make sense, Christian Kirk was definitely being discussed with teams but he broke his collarbone Sunday, Boyd, Bourne, Slayton etc.Problem is, who is left to trade for? Kendrick Bourne? There was some Cooper Kupp chatter but the Rams are healthy again and .5 games back in the NFC West. The rest of the obvious WR trade candidates are gone.
Think the Patriots can get a 3rd rounder for Thornton? He’s on the block! So the Texans almost have to join the WR trade market right? If not now, when?
Everyone not named Maye and Gonzalez should also be on the block. And anything else that isn't bolted down. We have a lightly loved OC looking for their forever home too!Think the Patriots can get a 3rd rounder for Thornton? He’s on the block!
Cam Robinson is not a guy you franchise tag, so he makes no sense for the Patriots. Vikings are overpaying a lot for a rental because they think they are a contender. The Cam Robinson trade is interesting
Robinson is close to a league-average starter at T, is 29, and has already played 7.5 seasons. He's presumably a lot closer to the coming cliff-dive into retirement that he is to the start of his career, although since injuries play such a huge part in this it's impossible to know how close.
The price tag is (probably) a 4th-for-a-7th pick swap
Not sure I'd do this I'm the Pats, since we really need guys who might reliable be here in 3-4 years. But I get why the Vikings are thinking in the short-term
Yeah, that was sort of what I was getting at in my round-about wayCam Robinson is not a guy you franchise tag, so he makes no sense for the Patriots. Vikings are overpaying a lot for a rental because they think they are a contender.
No, trading Brissett doesn’t make sense for them. He’s clearly offering value as a steady veteran presence and leader, and it is safe to say Joe Milton isn’t ready to play yet. Mayo isn’t in a position as a first year head coach who has overseen some turbulent times already to mess around at the most important position like that. It’s a buyers market. If the price to a playoff bound team to acquire a LT, a position that has tremendous value, who is going to start e dry hane the rest of the year is somewhere arkune a 5th or 6th then the Pats aren’t going to get much for their spare parts in Bourne, Osborne, Jones, Godcheaux etc.
The interesting one is would they trade Brissett if say a 5th rounder would come back?
Thornton is a total joke. I’d take anything at this point to see him done since he isn’t part of the future anyways.Does a conditional 7th make the Patriots better than actually trying to use Thornton for the rest of the season? If Maye can get him the ball 2-3 times per game, maybe Thornton develops into something approaching a useful piece. But the problem is the Patriots have several WR like this - Polk is another one, as well as Javon Baker if there was any room for him after all the other #3 and #4 WRs are fed.
They see Polk out, and figure they might as well try Thornton. Then he mostly sucks again, and that's that. Another 2nd rounder, down the drain.Yep, you're 99% likely to be right. the other 1% is they haven't cut him yet, and it's not like there's a shortage of other #3, #4, and #5 WRs in that room, so they must see something.

as long as you can run really fast in a straight line, you’ll get plenty of chances in the NFL at WR.
Well, Nico Collins is about to come off IR this week or next, they still have Tank Dell, Mixon, Schultz, etc.So the Texans almost have to join the WR trade market right? If not now, when?
He might end up as just another in a pretty long line of successful kickers who didn't achieve success with their first team. From Garo Yepremian to Nick Folk to Younghoe Koo.Chad Ryland named NFC ST Player of the Month after hitting 3 gw FGs in the past four weeks. Sometimes a change of scenery that's all that's needed, sometimes it's just random variance. Probably both in this case.
And even if a contending team did have a QB injury -- Commanders have concerns re Daniels ribs, maybe, etc. -- I'm skeptical that anyone has seen something from Brissett that would make him an attractive target vs really any other veteran QB (Andy Dalton, etc.).Plus I’m not really sure there is a market for Brissett. In season QB trades are rare and I can’t think of a contending team with a QB injury.
A 3rd for Thornton. Lololololololol. If the Patriots get a 3rd round pick for Thornton, I will give you one quadrillion dollars. But my heart is with yours. My guess is he would bring back, at best, a conditional 7th.
A dollar a year for a quadrillion years.Yeah, it's hard to know if he was serious given the entirety of his post. I still want my quadrillion dollars though.
Antonio Pierce is a bad coach. But the OC was pretty horrible, too. They keep playing Gardner and then benching him for worse QBs, who perform worse. It's not Gardner's fault. It's this shitty offense with bad play calls, bad players, and poor RBs.More than that, QB & OL coaches as well:

There’s always a hot story because the machine needs content but I don’t think anyone is surprised that the Carr move has not worked out. That whole situation looked doomed and it was going to be a surprise if it did work out.
You'll never guess who Dennis Allen's QB was when he was fired from his HC job by the Raiders in 2014.
Don't forget to include David Carr's career $49 mil earnings. It's almost like the reverse Manning family... is there another Carr brother or nephew coming up through college now that will continue the family legacy? He’s made $195mm in his career, yikes.
Derek Carr has actually been worth probably about 195M throughout his careerHe’s made $195mm in his career, yikes.
Carr hasn’t been the issue. Allen is an abysmal coach and the roster has degraded fairly significantly over the last few years (especially the OL which went from very good to pretty bad quickly)There’s always a hot story because the machine needs content but I don’t think anyone is surprised that the Carr move has not worked out. Dallas makes that deal on the same day they put Dak on IR. That’s a lot of faith in Cooper Rush keeping/getting them back into the playoff race until Dak returns.Surprisingly busy start to the trade deadline day:
DAL- trades a 4th to CAR for Jonathon Mingo and a 7th
CIN- trades a 7th to CHI for Khalil Herbert
DET- trades a 5th and a future 6th to CLE for Za'Darius Smith and a future 7th
Nah, that's Jerry Jones needing to be in the news. They're toast and they know it. Which is why they traded for a young guy with a tiny contract they can claim they got for the future if he tanks, instead of the big names on expiring deals.Dallas makes that deal on the same day they put Dak on IR.
