Thanks. I've looked at that before but apparently not closely enough. I didn't realize the count of FA lost was affected by the rankings. To me, it should be more hard/fast rule so teams know when they are signing and losing players who counts. They could still do rankings after the season to determine where picks fall.
FWIW, OTC projections had the Pats getting a 3rd and two 4ths so they were one of the ones that were off in their calculations.
The compensatory picks discussion obscures another evidence of Belichickian brilliance—who else can turn a 6th into a 3rd?
It has certainly been a source of replacement as part of his "cut early instead of late mantra". Cut a player now while expensive and likely to fall off the cliff and use the comp picks to replace 90% of that cut player at 40% of the cost over the next few years. It works.

To be clear, cut players do not enter into the comp pick formula. The contract has to expire.

Paying good running backs that kind of money is just insane. He's good for sure, but...$12 million a year? Ugh.
After tossing a 2nd rounder on a running back last year, no less. Seems like they planned for his departure only to say f*** it despite not having cap space. Pretty surprising, regardless of the contract details.

Help me out with something. FA begins on St Patty's ( I think) but is it correct that the negotiation window starts tomorrow? If negotiations (non-tampering anyway) start tomorrow, can something like "agreements in principle" be announced before the 17th or do we have to wait?
I don't think anything gets "announced," but like, say, the Goff-Stafford trade, things get leaked and "known"

I like Brees alot for these roles. I think he could end up being a fantastic SNF/MNF guy. This is a great way to get his feet wet with "smaller" roles.
We'll look back on this contract as the one that killed the "voidable years" charade.

Washington will be the 9th team Fitzpatrick has started for. Never made the playoffs. What a wild career.
He was really close with the Jets. 10-6 in 2015 winning 5 in a row before losing last game of season to miss playoffs. He was close with Fish last year but didn’t start all the games so not quite the same.

Not every culture is going to fit every player. We've certainly heard from guys that hated it, but we've also seen Van Noy and Chung and Brown happy to come back. Jimmy Butler didn't fit in Minnesota, but is in a great place in Miami. Good for Moore that he found a place he's happy playing.

Did they? I mean, they got the players they wanted on multi-year deals. That some guys took 1 year deals elsewhere doesn't really effect that(also Juju allegedly took quite a bit less money to stay in PIT, much like Andrews stayed at a discount). If Golladay signs for like 3/36 with 22M guaranteed I'll think they mismanaged, otherwise it looks like they picked 2 WRs with different roles that they liked and got them on reasonable multi-year deals.
