Nice player but that seems quite excessive. Guess they figure they can pay him while Taylor is cheap.
Yeah, I came in here specifically to see if my “wtf?” Reaction when I saw that on ESPN was justified. Knowing they have Taylor and Mack it seems insane to me, particularly with the Latavius news the day before about him walking away because of a $3m salary and then getting $2m from a desperate Ravens team (I know he is an old man for RBs but he has been very productive still as an RB1 when called on).

Just seems like a really odd use of the salary cap for a backup player.

Either a major overhaul or a cancellation.

Hard Knocks is not a good show now. It hasn't been great in a very long time.

It will be interesting to see what interest, if any, there is for Gordon. For all of his troubles, Seattle and Russ had nothing but platitudes and I believe he stayed in the area.

the Ringers NFL pod discussed KC and Baltimore as potential fits as well. As someone who always roots for Flash I really hope some team that is not KC picks him up.

Worst case he's probably worth a PS flier. If he sucks you cut him and if he has something, he has a higher likelihood of success than a lot of the other guys on there.

Duval
I haven’t been following this, what’s with the hash tag? They seem to use it a lot.

edit: I guess it’s a jags rallying cry?
Jacksonville is in Duval county or, more accurately, is Duval county. It became a rallying cry a handful of years ago. As @MuzzyField can unfortunately still attest, it is stupid and annoying enough to make one want to club a baby seal.

Some of the Jags catchphrases seemed to come from the TV show The Good Place, where the only Jags fan in the universe was stuck in purgatory. I think he shouted "Duval" a lot.

I think you have that a little backwards, both about where the show takes place (NO SPOILERS ;)) and the order. "The Good Place" character hilariously popularized "BORTLES!" and when he made up a fake name for himself went by the pseudonym 'Jake Jortles," which both became memes and for a lot of NFL fans, but the "Duuuuuvall!" thing has been with the Jags for a long time.

Calling Jacksonville by the county it rests in, Duval, was popularized by rappers in the 1990s, and it has slowly crept its way into game day at EverBank Field.
"Duuuval!" became a rallying cry for Jags since beginning in the early '00s. The chant became synonymous with former Jaguars players such as Mike Peterson and Paul Spicer, and was just another aspect of the dominant and physical defense that defined the team during the decade.

You have to think that the winner would be guaranteed to not have a Saturday game the next week, right?
Can you even do that? You don't always know the matchups until all the games are done---and you have to tell the other teams what day they are hosting, no?

You can't tell some #1 seed late Monday night what day they play.

They would be able to minimize that by scheduling one of the 4-5 matchups on Monday. The last game on Sunday could be the other 4-5 matchup.

EDIT: Wrote it backwards

There have always been teams playing on Sunday in the Wild Card round who have then turned around and played on Saturday in the Divisional Round, right? Assuming that the Monday teams would always play on Sunday the following week, I don't really see how this is much different to that.
Because no matter what happens, no matter what the schedule is, the team that plays on Monday will have less time to rest compared to all the other teams who played that weekend. They are singularly disadvantaged.

But again, there has often been at least one team in this situation. Just looking back since 2010:

2021: #2 Buffalo had an extra day of rest over #5 Baltimore; #5 Tampa Bay had an extra day of rest over #2 New Orleans
2020: #6 Minnesota played on Wild Card Sunday and then Divisional Round Saturday (vs. #1 San Francisco)
2016: #5 Green Bay played on Wild Card Sunday and then Divisional Round Saturday (vs. #2 Arizona)
2013: #4 Baltimore played on Wild Card Sunday and then Divisional Round Saturday (vs. #1 Denver)
2012: #4 Denver played on Wild Card Sunday and then Divisional Round Saturday (vs. #1 New England)
2011: #5 Baltimore played on Wild Card Sunday and then Divisional Round Saturday (vs. #2 Pittsburgh)
2010: #4 Arizona played on Wild Card Sunday and then Divisional Round Saturday (vs. #1 New Orleans)

How is this new arrangement that different to what we've had before?

The difference is that it's guaranteed to happen. Before, it could happen, but sometimes it didn't. Now it will happen every single year, in both conferences.

Edit: that being said, this also happens every single year in the conference championship games, since one of the teams will have played on Saturday in the divisional round in each conference.

Is that a big difference, though? I mean, sure, in an ideal world you'd want to even the rest disparity, and it is obviously a slight disadvantage to get the one less day of rest. But ever since Monday Night Football started, teams have been playing with one fewer day of rest than their opponents. It's sort of part of the sport at this point. (To say nothing of Thursday football, both historically on Thanksgiving and now pretty much every week, and the way that sets teams up with a significant rest advantage the following week.)

They play Monday night football during the regular season. They don't play elimination games in the regular season. And all teams play in those games, some more than others, of course. And it's spread out over 18 weeks.

This new policy guarantees one team and one team only is guaranteed to have less days off heading to the 2nd weekend of the playoffs. But it's the NFL and they operate on a "fuck you" basis. And that basis is also dictated on the ability to make money. And this will make the NFL money.

So it happens. It also sucks because that schedule is going to have three straight days of games ending at midnight.

If it's something like Panthers at Seattle on Monday night, it's going to be pretty harsh for the victorious Panthers to essentially lose almost 2 days of rest/prep for the following weekend.

I would hope that the NFL will not schedule west coast games on Monday night (or even Sunday night for that matter), but I can't say I have 100% faith in the NFL to avoid that.

Good for him. I think he may be cooked, but KC is hungry for depth at receiver and if he’s gonna produce well anywhere it may as well be KC.
Yup. I’ll join a team with Mahomes and Kelce/Hill to draw coverage away from me over basically any other situation, if given the choice. But I also think he’s pretty cooked so this might be another Le’Veon Bell situation.

I'll root hard for Josh, but the risk with him is always the same, that he plays well enough for your offense to start relying on him and then he's unavailable when you need him most. Don't know if I'd go that route if I were KC, but hope he succeeds there.

One of the reasons KC is a good fit is that offense is never going to rely on him, if he plays great.... he's still the 3rd best receiving option on the team.

By the way, we've all seen plenty of players go off the cliff. But nobody had a steeper and quicker fall than Le'Veon. He was an absolutely STUD.

And then it was over, from hero to zero, no in between.

RBs cliff hard, because the margin for error is small, and you depend on your teammates more. When he was with the Jets, he wasn't actually that bad, it's just that outside like 5 guys tops RBs are replaceable, a lot of guys who put up big numbers are fools gold, they get hurt and the backup gives you 90% of what the starter did, then a key lineman gets hurt and the starter looks bad, then 2 years go by and a guy with fresh legs passes him (see Fournette in JAX, Elliott in DAL, etc. etc.).

And he wasn't even an athleticism guy like Gurley so I figured he'd age a little better. Know Gurley had knee issues but, to Cellar's point, these guys go fast. It's why I don't blame them at all for doing what they need to do in order to maximize their earnings. Wouldn't be surprised if a guy like Derrick Henry is out of the league in under 3 years.
