Under for me as well. Julio is pretty cooked. He is pretty much only useful as a jump-ball end zone target since he really can't get separation on routes anymore.
I'm guessing he does better in TB than he did in Tennessee last year. Domes, weather and a better QB, the keys to a receiver being serviceable into their mid 30's. And why I never wanted the Pats go get him last offseason at 15mil per year, and giving up a 2nd rounder...

The thing with Julio is health. Even last year he still averaged 14 yards per catch and his catch% was right in line with his career average as well. If he's on the field there's no reason to believe he won't be productive for the Bucs, especially since the TEs won't figure as heavily in the passing game. He won't have peak Julio Jones numbers, obviously, but I do think he can contribute to the tune of, say, 55 catches for 750 yards or something of the sort. Now, odds are he'll get injured and won't reach those stats.

Man, sucks for Patrick, he's always been reliable. Of course, that just makes Jeudy (who hasn't done much) and Sutton (awesome but always hurt) all the more important.

I feel bad for Patrick, he’s been a really solid contributor there and had to be excited as hell about getting to play with Russ.

It might be in poor taste to speculate in response to injuries, but between the recent injury news for the Broncos, Cowboys, and Packers, it’s becoming less inconceivable that a taker could be found if Bill decides one of Agholor or Meyers is expendable. Too early to tell if the camp positivity on Thornton, Nixon, and Montgomery is fluff, but someone decent isn’t going to have a spot come September and I’m not sure the inevitable Wilkerson cut is the only odd man out.

Not that I am adding anything profound to the discussion but this is why prognostication in the NFL is so difficult. More so than any other major sport it is a war of attrition and injury luck and depth play such a huge role in which teams ultimately have success.

Most of us do 2 of those 3 things on a daily basis. (we probably slow down around schools).
Though usually not bad enough to get actually locked up. So dude was either Way beyond the minimums or maybe he was mouthing off, or maybe he ran into a racist cop.

To be fair the original article didn’t have the 126 mph in it - and it later was updated to include it

The Bears’ Roquan Smith requests a trade. He’s now in the last year of his contract and represents himself, so it seems this one has taken a personal twist.

Smith is clearly the Bears’ best player, but trading him for significant draft capital probably makes the most sense for the team’s timeline.

Couldn’t have imagined back in the Rexy/Sanchize days that it would eventually come to this, but I actually feel bad for Jets’ fans. What a star-crossed franchise. Sorry @luckiestman and the others in our midst.
Losing your LT and QB to serious knee injuries before the season is just nuts.

Jimmy G or no Jimmy G, hard to imagine an ACL tear for Wilson makes the Jets much worse this season.

Trading for Jimmy G seems like an awful idea for the Jets for a couple obvious reasons...

1) The Jets only have a few million of cap room & Jimmy G would cost them like $25m, & the 49ers don't really have any incentive to eat a large chunk of salary unless they're getting overpaid in picks back.

2) The Jets aren't very good (4th lowest win total o/u) & adding a QB who would take them from bad to pretty bad, & would then be a free agent, seems counterproductive to long-term team building.

The type of team who should be trading for Jimmy G is also the type of team who should be sitting their QB out in preseason anyway.

Jesters med staff (who were initially wrong about Becton, fwiw) seem to be leaning PCL again (that was injury from Pats game last year) but need MRI. I’m expecting ACL because that’s how these things go. Also, just for full information, Becton was going to play RT this year. Jets have subsequently signed Duane Brown and this likely (not official yet) moves Fant back to RT.

Zach had been having a good camp according to beat reporters but looked terrible in his first series tonight. He always starts games too amped up.

Since I’m giving a run down, the offensive talent (outside qb) on this team is the best it’s been in a long time. Elijah Moore and Wilson get open easily. RB seems good with Carter and Hall and this UDFA Zonovan Knight they have is impressing in camp and looked good tonight. Jets actually have good TEs for this first time in forever.

The D is a much bigger question mark. On paper it should be way better (6 starters that didn’t play last year) especially at the edge but I’m a skeptic of the system they run. I know it worked that one year in SF but that D was loaded. I see the Jets trying to get players to fit the scheme but I’m still a wait and see. I’ve never seen a team give up rushing yards like they did last year. Gregg Williams with worse talent had much better results. D last year was flat out embarrassing.

The star of the coaching staff is the younger LaFleur, imo. Saleh a good figurehead and leader. People like him ( including myself).

On Jimmy G….I don’t even know if he is better than Flacco.

Flacco is 37 & hasn't started more than 9 games in a season since 2017 & hasn't actually played well since 2014...

Jimmy G is 30 & led the league in NY/A and yards per completion last year.

Jimmy G is 100% an upgrade (until he gets hurt), but one that doesn't make a lot of sense.

This seems like a “you play to win the game” moment for the jets. Isn’t it likely that Garoppolo is 4 wins better than White? Isn’t this year 3 (or, you know, 54) of the rebuild? Isn’t their owner back after his overseas jaunt? Does a second round pick in 2024 work?

When a team has its franchise QB, shouldn’t it just ride out the injury?
It would probably make more sense for the NYJ to do what the 49ers did in 2018 when Jimmy G went down in week 3. Go with the backups.
It got them Nick Bosa and really helped them get more talent for the 2019 SB run.
Unless Jimmy G was super cheap I don’t get why the Jets would want him for just one year when getting a better draft pick could be more beneficial.

A crazy what if…..

I interviewed Matthew Slater for my latest book project last week and we got talking about the 2008 season, his rookie year. Brady went down right out of the gate, first quarter of game 1. We all remember this vividly.

He said that team was most likely the best team in the league until the moment Brady went down. Maybe by a pretty considerable margin. They obviously went with Cassel. But what if the Pats had decided to trade for a better QB? Let’s say the $$ would have worked out. Let’s say they could have traded draft picks for the equivalent of a modern Jimmy G to play the season instead of Cassel. Could that team have won it all?

For probably any number of reasons the Pats didn’t go that route - maybe $$, maybe there was nobody like that available, maybe BB thought highly of Cassel and didn’t think any upgrade was worth it, who knows. But they went 11-5 with a QB who didn’t even start in college (he threw 33 passes in his entire four year college career!). What could that team have done with a guy like Jimmy G at QB?

I mean that is a very interesting what-if, but also kind of an edge case when talking about arguably one of the greatest teams in NFL history. Still, a very interesting thought exercise.

This hypothetical depends on identifying that player. What QB better than Cassel - none of whom would have played in the Pats system - would have been available Week 2?

Peak Cassel was also pretty much as good as Jimmy G--I don't see an available asset really being much better than what we got from Matt.

I mean that's the question. Likely nobody. But I do wonder how that team would have done with a better QB. (duh..likely...BETTER!)

Unclear how a meniscus tear requiring surgery could be on the 2 week end of the spectrum, even if it’s just a trim (unless they mean week 2 of the regular season).

I’d expect 4 weeks minimum, maybe a bit longer if the bone bruise is significant. Still very good news and a lesson to the twitter docs (like ProFootballDoc) that pretend to know exactly what happened from video alone.

Edit: I would also add that they may not know the details until after surgery. If this injury is related to poor healing of his previous PCL tear they may have a decision to make.

PCL tears in isolation are almost universally non operative, but if they think it healed poorly and he is going to be at risk for repeated similar instability non-contact injuries, repairing his PCL “could” be on the table. That’s pure speculation though and still unlikely.

Yep and still yet another example of why quoting him on this board is discouraged

there was a different doc that put out a tweet outlining 3 scenarios (best case/worst case/most likely) that was well done. I will see if I can find it.

If they were framed as an opinion (and some alternate possible scenarios) it would be a much better, though he is an attention seeker. Any tweets of his should be read as only an educated guess, nothing more. I think it's OK to post, but whenever someone does, I suggest assuming much bigger error bars than he does.

Instead we get him pretending he is 95% accurate and then a bunch of "limited video" and" "watching from my phone at dinner" excuses when things go wrong.
