Also 350+ passing yards 3 times. Empty yards, but they were moving the ball and through the air. He was bad, but others have been worse with less guaranteed $$.

Paging @radsoxfan
I’m seeing it reported as a grade 2 shoulder strain. Which according to my college roommate can be a fairly long recovery. (Months in a bad case) obviously need more info to know more definitively. I just wonder if he was out awhile and they decided to provide certainty over the next 4-8 weeks instead of having a rookie looking I’ve this shoulder waiting on a QB who has been mediocre and without a definite timetable.
I saw grade 2 shoulder AC joint separation (or sprain), not a grade 2 strain.

Mostly a pain tolerance issue but he could be out a few weeks if it’s his throwing shoulder. Grade 3 and higher is when surgery becomes an option and being out much longer is on the table.

I agree the Colts going out of their way to announce the benching is not injury related AND for the entire season is …. Bizarre. Almost wonder if there was some big blowup.

What is the incentive to do that rather than give Erlinger a couple weeks, see how it goes, then decide what to do?

I think part of the Colts thing is that their O-line is getting killed and Ryan is just not able to do anything behind a bad line. Ehlinger is a lot more mobile and I think they hope that opens up some options.

Was going to say I don’t like it for the Jets but it’s really hard to argue with that as the pick compensation. As far as available RBs go, he’s not as good as Hunt but he’s also not a piece of shit and conceivably should get better the longer in the rearview his surgery is. I’d much rather him than Akers.

As much as I dislike the Jets as a rival, I like a lot of what they’ve done this year. Have to admit they’re a fun team even without Hall.

I think it's kind of a dumb trade in conception because they don't have the QB play to compete this year anyway in my mind, but it's marginal draft pick value so.... sure why not.

People keep saying how terrible Zach is, they also leave out how he missed the preseason and came back against some strong pass defenses. He hasn’t been great but he’s not turning the ball over so I feel like there’s still plenty of room for him to grow

I like him. If they can be competitive while giving him a chance to develop I’m a happy guy

I agree. It’s far too soon to write him off at this point. He played well against Pittsburgh and played competently against Miami and has only thrown 2 picks in 4 games. I refuse to kill him over the Denver and Green Bay games, those are two good defenses

It’s all cleared up now…

https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/34875872/nfl-refs-seeking-buccaneers-wr-mike-evans-autograph

Following conversations with the individuals involved, however, the league determined that Lamberth and Sutter weren't asking for an autograph. The league did not specify why they called out to Evans nor what was said during the interaction. In response to a follow-up question, an NFL spokesman said the league had no other details to share.
I would just assume he was asking him out to coffee and needed his digits

Looks like the plan is Ehrlinger for 2022 and draft pick for 2023 based on-
https://sports.yahoo.com/matt-ryan-contract-main-reason-143724127.html
If Ryan plays more games he gets more $$ guaranteed for injury for 2023. Stopping him now from being a bigger cap hit in 2023 makes sense based on his play this year.

I'd have tried "the ref was asked by a seven year old to get the autograph and tried to help out" before I would have denied that it was an autograph, personally.

Then again, this is a league who ran a whole study on ball air pressure and then refused to release it, surely because it demonstrated their highest-profile disciplinary matter in history was 100% factually incorrect, so what kind of transparency could you really expect?

Ahh there ya go.

Wonder if any desperate but potentially contending team would take a flyer on him this season.

Maybe his career is just over.
I can’t think of a team that would be that desperate, unless Jimmy G gets reinjured. If this is it, it’s a bit of an unfortunate end to what’s been a pretty great career for Matty Ice.

I thought a 4th was a little high too but Chicago is paying $7.1m of his 2022 salary leaving only $700k for Philly, and no guaranteed money next year.

And Philly gets the Saints first round pick this year, which is currently #4, so they’ll have no problem adding picks, if needed.

Not all that brutal compared to the return on old friend™ N'Keal Harry. In fact, I think that's an overpay for a guy who's had one good NFL game. That said, he'll probably become a pro-bowler catching side-armers from Mahomes now.

Edit - apparently he's on Twitter talking about how he's not injured.

I had the same thought. I think we would have driven Harry to the airport for that return. Does KC have enough balls to go around for Hardman, Smith-Schuster, MVS, Kelce and Toney? Don’t they have more pressing needs in their secondary right now?

Jesus Christ.

EDIT: I am frustrated that Roquan Smith got dealt to an afc rival, one that seems to land PLAYERS I COVET FOR THE PATRIOTS all too often. That said, Patriots are going nowhere this season, so who cares, really? That is what I meant by “Jesus Christ.”

For Chicago, that is great value for an expiring contract at a non-premium position, but… I’m puzzled as to why the Bears aren’t just keeping/planning to re-sign Smith as a bedrock piece of their D going forward. Who else are they planning to invest in?

And, yes, they could theoretically re-sign Smith if he isn’t franchised/extended by the Ravens, but when does that ever actually happen in these situations?

The odds seem good that the Ravens make out well in this trade. I don’t see it for Chicago.

I'm frustrated that the Bears traded 2 pretty good players AFTER beating the Patriots.

They could have traded their entire team other than Fields and replaced the rest with street players and still probably achieved the same result.

Smith and the Bears had a contentious negotiation -- Smith threatened to hold out and was placed on a phantom injury list instead and let it be known to the media he was pissed off.

So seems clear the Bears knew his price and knew they weren't going to bring him back. I think they did pretty well, considering...

He's been straight up bad in coverage is probably part of it. That he demanded a trade is another, probably have to tag him to keep him

Hard to imagine the Ravens don't have a deal to re-sign him in place. The price is to high for a short term rental and they need to add some defensive talent going forward with Campbell getting older, Peters a free agent, Queen being perhaps not a long term solution, Bynes having a giant fork in him, etc.

The Ravens must be very confident in a new contract for Smith and one under what he was reportedly asking for this summer - $20m per & a new record for ILB guaranteed money.

Smith’s negotiations with the Bears fell apart while he was representing himself - sounds like things got too personal for him. And after his brief quasi-hold out, the NFL sent out a memo telling all teams to not communicate with an a person acting as Smith’s unregistered representative. I know the Ravens have a strong front office and team culture, but seems like contract negotiations with Smith are very tricky.

Bears now have a 1st, 2 2nds, a 3rd, 2 4ths, 2 5ths, and a 7th round draft pick in 2023 plus a projected $110m in cap space. It’s going to be a very different squad next season.

Schefter said at half that if Smith signs elsewhere BAL will get a third-rounder as compensation.

BB: "We'll stick with Tavai and if we need a boost I"ve got Jamie Collins on speed dial."

Depending on their off-season signings they would likely get a third round comp back in 2024.

The Ravens generally do a great job getting players but the picks and roughly 20 million is a lot for a off the ball linebacker. I also don't love that somehow such a great player isn't getting re-signed in Chicago and it gives me pause. (It also makes me think they don't really like Queen in Baltimore).

I'm honestly baffled at the Jets saying they won't consider trading Moore....

I get it he's a talent but.....
1. You benched him for a week, said it WASN'T disciplinary.
2. Last week he got only 10 snaps despite your #2 WR being out.
3. Since Wilson returned he's tied for LAST among the 5 WRs in TCH%

If you're not getting him the ball, and you're reducing his playing time, you must not believe in him.... if that's true and other teams are clearly interested you should improve your team. If you think he's good.... why in the world isn't he playing and having touches manufactured for him?

This is just really bad management.
