Why does Pollard’s durability concern you? He’s played in 15, 16, 15, 16 games, respectively. We don’t really know what his durability is because he’s always been behind Zeke. I do agree with you that you probably want a good short yardage guy who can take some of the load off of him.

Honestly, a Damien Harris/Pollard combo would be pretty good as well.
Basically just his size/build (6’, 200lbs, so a bit tall/light for an RB) combined with an increased usage rate to try to justify a big contract. He’s gone from 86 carries his rookie year to 193 this year. I would expect that to jump again given how productive he is with the ball in his hands.

I'm wondering how this affects different teams. Obviously, in the aggregate, it's very good for players as a group as that is over half a billion dollars available.

But does it help teams who are up against the cap more than teams with room by reducing the number of players who have to be cap casualties?

I think that was about the expected number shouldn't have much of an effect. For instance, Overthecap has been using an estimated $225M 2023 cap.

In case you were wondering how much of a joke the Pro-Bowl is:

Huntley named as the alternate for Josh Allen.....

Huntley played in 6 games (starting 4) threw for 658 yards, 2 TD and 3 INT.

He didn't even qualify for Rate stats, but if he did, he would have finished:
Dead last in TD%
26th in INT%
27th in ANY/A

He's BY FAR the worst player ever to make a pro-bowl, AND he only played 6 games.

I mean, even Mac Jones had a better year than Huntley.
Literally anyone did. His offense basically had five games in the regular season (Lamar got hurt on the last play of the first quarter in the Denver game) and never scored two TDs. Anthony Brown's offense (when they rested Dobbins/Zeitler/Andrews in the last game) scored 16 points in his start, a mark Huntley's cleared once by one point.

So I may have figured out the reason behind it.
I missed it, but they actually pick the alternates when they announce the starters, and Huntley was the 4th alternate there.
Some writers have said it was likely because of the player and coach vote (2/3rds of the formula), where they pick 3. Guys vote for their guy, then stack the rest with guys at the bottom so their competition doesn't get votes. So if you want to try and get Burrow for example in the top 3, you vote for him, Huntley and Zach Wilson or something. Huntley also had only played 2 games when voting closed, so probably none when half his votes went in. So many people used him as their "burn" vote that he ended up 7th, so when all the guys ahead of him dropped out.....

This is very f'ed up, but perhaps par for the course for the NFL.

As the NBA learned, the more of the vote you give the players the worse the results because they vote for their friends, try to game the system, etc.

Edit- it's also why the NBA removed the All-Star game from a bunch of escalator/bonus/contract stuff.

Another argument for just doing two or three all-pro teams and getting rid of the pro-bowl junk altogether.

I wonder how that will affect Russell Wilson. I mean, Payton appears to be a MUCH better coach than Hackett, but I wonder if Wilson is just toast. I'd bet that Payton can get improved performance out of Wilson.

All time elite troll job if he makes them trade for Taysom Hill.

They say compensation is Den 2023 1st, 2024 2nd for SP and Saints 2024 3rd, but Den doesn’t have a 1st this year so I don’t get it.

According to Schefter, NO has two options for a compensation package.

1) Denver's 1st round pick(#29) and next year's 2nd for Payton and a 2024 3rd
2) Denver's 2024 1st round pick and a 2023 4th(#109)
The 2nd option seems like a no-brainer.

How fucking awesome would it be if Huntley had like an incentive for like 25mil for making a pro bowl.

I know it's probably not possible under the rules, but it would be so fucking sweet.

AJ Green has retired, per his Instagram. It's a shame he'll likely be on the outside looking in due to injuries and lack of team success, but he had the best five-year start to a career of anyone despite subpar QB play and made the Bengals fun again. He had some of the best footwork I've ever seen and his ability to contort his body with that frame was something else. One of the humblest superstars there ever was deserved better.

Rodgers is still a fucking nut.

Following his victory at the Pebble Peach Pro-Am over the weekend, Aaron Rodgers revealed even more insight into his retire-or-play decision during his latest appearance on "The Pat McAfee Show," on Tuesday with the four-time NFL MVP saying a four-day "darkness retreat" after the Super Bowl will allow him to come to a "final, final decision."

"It's an opportunity to do a little self-reflection in some isolation and after that, I feel like I'll be a lot closer to that final, final decision," Rodgers said Tuesday. "I've had a number of friends who've done it and they had profound experiences."

Rodgers detailed he will be in pitch black all day and night for four days and nights, describing the experience as "sensory deprivation isolation" and that it will simulate the drug DMT with the potential for hallucinations.
The retreat will not be out in nature, but rather at a house, according to Rodgers.

"They'll drop food and drink through a slot and there is a bathroom," he said. "In there for four days and nights and come out after the fourth night."

The ‘Aaron Rodgers As Cerebral Deep Thinker’ narrative gets a boost! It is truly a privilege to witness this man’s path to enlightenment.

Will he send up white smoke from the chimney when he’s decided whether he will retire? Oh, never mind, he’s not allowed any light source in his cell or whatever the hell he will be sitting in

He and Kyrie need to collaborate on something.

What an incredible grift it is for whoever is making money off of locking rich people in a dark room and giving them the absolute barest of necessities and spinning it as some sort of mystical healing nonsense. Can I start one of these? Any SoSH'ers want to invest?

I dunno...I feel like this would be very beneficial mentally. I mean, sensory deprivation tanks are a thing, and I know that many people swear by certain meditation techniques like the ones where you can't talk during the entire duration of like a week. I, personally, would love to try it, and have wanted to try a sensory deprivation tank for a while now, but the local spa that had some burned down recently. I mean, Rodgers might be a nut, but I don't think this particular thing is so crazy.
