I only had room for 10 options, so if you think the Redskins, Texans or Packers will win and you aren't Tony Massarotti - please do elaborate.

Post your road to the Super Bowl here.
Here are my picks.

AFC
Chiefs over Texans
Bengals over the Steelers (I'm going to assume Williams is out, but also feel the Bengals postseason slump is waaayy overstated.)

Patriots over Bengals
Chiefs over Broncos

Chiefs over Patriots - The trendy "team no one wants to play."

I would pick the Pats over any other AFC team, but against them in the SB vs. the Panthers, Seahawks or Cards (maybe even Vikings).

NFC
Vikings over Seahawks
Redskins over Packers

Panthers over Redskins
Cardinals over Vikings

Cardinals over Panthers

Cardinals over the Chiefs - like the Patriots, I think the Cards were playing possum yesterday. Bruce Arians is arguably the 2nd best coach in football right now, and they are fairly healthy.

I'd like to hear the logic of Vikings over Seahawks. You'll be a lonely outlier on that one.
I don't mind being on an island and the 5.5 point line is probably light but they were 3-4 against playoff teams, and now they're playing their 2nd game in a row on the road against one. Granted, they already dismantled Minnesota at home once, but Wilson was otherworldly. I'm banking on the Vikings having a better game plan.

I am extremely confident in the AFC picks, but I don't know what to do with the Seahawks on the NFC side. I think Seattle and Arizona are the best two teams in the NFL right now and it is not particularly close. That said, I don't know if Seattle can win three road games in a row, and while I think they will beat Carolina, I think whoever has to play Carolina will suffer the following week because of how physical the Panthers are. Thus, I have the Cards beating them, but I might change my mind after watching the divisional round.

AFC

Pittsburgh over Cincy
KC over Houston

Pittsburgh over Denver
Pats over Chiefs - the Chiefs are a better team right now, but there is no fucking way I am picking Andy Reed and Alex Smith over the best ever.

Pats over Steelers - This won't be close.

NFC

Seattle over the Vikings
Washington over Green Bay - I am not horribly confident on this one, but it doesn't matter, the Cards kill the winner

Seattle over Carolina
Arizona over Washington

Arizona over Seattle - this game will be just as crazy as last year's NFC title game.

Arizona over New England - This will be closer than it should be, but the Cards are just better. Not to troll, but I think the Hawks would win a re-match handily because of the way last year went.

Bruce Arians is arguably the 2nd best coach in football right now, and they are fairly healthy.

The answer to this question is Pete Carroll and it is not close. Arians and his staff are great, though and they have the best roster.

Maybe I'm giving too much weight to the Pats' injuries, but if this team gets reasonably healthy I think they have what it takes. A Super Bowl rematch with Seattle would take years off my life but I think the Pats would pull out another close victory in a more high-scoring contest than last year.

It set up pretty well for Pittsburgh, honestly. It looks like they're getting a Dalton-less Cincy team, then they'd get a Peyton-led Denver team. I think Brock at home would do well against Pittsburgh because they're poor enough on defense that even average QB play can light them up. I really question whether Manning has what it takes to win a shootout though, or at least play solidly enough to not put his team in a hole. We'll see how much the time off has helped him.

Chiefs over Texans
Bengals over Steelers -- not convinced the Steelers are all that good.

Patriots over Bengals
Chiefs over Broncos

Patriots over Chiefs

NFC
Seahawks over Vikings
Packers over Redskins

Seahawks over Cardinals
Panthers over Packers

Panthers over Seahawks

Super Bowl
Patriots over Panthers

If the Patriots don't win the Super Bowl or even make it to the big game, here are my preferred (who I'd like) Super Bowl winners in descending order:

Cardinals
Panthers
Vikings
Bengals
Packers
Steelers
Chiefs
Texans
Redskins

AFC:

Texans over Chiefs - KC hasn't exactly been blowing the doors off of some pretty shitty teams and have a short week road game
Steelers over Bengals - Switch it if Dalton were healthy, but initial reports look like he's out?

Patriots over Texans - little brother syndrome continues
Steelers over Broncos - Pittsburgh will get their points and I don't think Peyton can hang, probably switch this if Brock were starting

Patriots over Steelers - Brady will hang points on Pittsburgh more often than Pittsburgh can score them

NFC:

Seahawks over Vikings - I think there's a clear first and second tier of NFC Playoff teams. Seattle is in Tier 1, Minnesota is not
Redskins over Packers - I can't believe I'm picking the f'n Redskins to win a playoff game, but the way the two teams have played and the game being in Washington...

Panthers over Seahawks - This is a tough call. I have zero conviction on this one.
Cardinals over Redskins - End of the line for Washington. This is a Tier 1 vs Tier 2 matchup.

Cardinals over Panthers - Probably a better team anyways, but the ease of the previous game comes into play here.

Super Bowl:

Cardinals over Patriots - I could flop this one around based on how NE looks in the playoffs leading up to the game. I think even with some guys not coming back at 100% that NE will get through the AFC, but they'll need to be extremely healthy to be able to take down the NFC champ.

This is exactly what I had in mind all the way up to the Super Bowl (Patriots over Cardinals). Hoewever, I think I am going with heart over head and I can't help but think the Patriots are too injured to win it all and my homerism is clouding my judgement.
Logic to me says Seattle over KC (Kansas City has been playing real well this year and this AFC field might be weak enough that Alex Smith and Andy Reid can get through it)....

But fuck it, this is a Patriots forum and I am a homer. New England over Arizona

Here are each playoff teams records against playoff opponents this regular season.

Broncos - 5-2
Patriots - 3-1 +39 (two of those opponents were Houston and Washington)
Bengals 3-4 +1
Texans 1-3 -31
Chiefs 3-4 -5
Steelers 3-4 +14

Panthers 4-0 +48
Cardinals 5-2 -3 (that last game vs Seattle killed the spread)
Vikings 2-4 -41
Redskins 0-2 -45 (they managed wins against such juggernauts as the Rams, Saints and Bills)
Packers 3-4 -27
Seahawks 3-4 +46. Lost their first 4 matchups and then made up for lost time.

You really have to give Denver some reluctant props. They had 10(!) match ups vs playoff teams which is 3 more than the next team, and a decaying QB for much of the season, and got it together enough to really earn that #1.

The Patriots had a pretty cream puff schedule, especially when you add in the fact that LeVeon Bell was suspended for the game they played the Steelers while the Patriots were completely healthy and at home.

Broncos - 7-3 +19
Patriots - 3-1 +39 (two of those opponents were Houston and Washington)
Bengals 3-4 +1
Texans 1-3 -31
Chiefs 3-4 -5
Steelers 3-4 +14

Panthers 4-0 +48
Cardinals 5-2 -3 (that last game vs Seattle killed the spread)
Vikings 2-4 -41
Redskins 0-2 -45 (they managed wins against such juggernauts as the Rams, Saints and Bills)
Packers 3-4 -27
Seahawks 3-4 +46. Lost their first 4 matchups and then made up for lost time.

Denver only played 7 playoff teams and went 5-2 (Wins: KC, Min, GB, NE, Cin; Losses: KC, Pitt)

NFC

I love it when fans of other teams pick the Pats. I sat next to a KC fan at the SB last year who was SURE Brady would lead the Pats to a comeback win for the entire game and kept reminding me of such as I melted down. So thanks for the warm memory.

But I don't understand your point about Seattle. I know that it's normal human nature to want to beat someone who beat you but I come from the assumption that both teams will be sufficiently motivated by the chance to be the Champs. And there has been some turnover, of course.

I have only one prediction and it's that the Seahawks will win. Because they are playing so well now and I think they are the best team.

I think Pete Carroll is the best motivator in professional sports. I think Seattle is a (relatively) emotional team that plays to the peak of their potential when they have something to prove. You are right that motivation probably doesn't mean much, since the SuperBowl motivates anyone who plays in it, but I think in that matchup between the two best coaching staffs in the league, where both teams are very familiar with each other, the added motivation would be decisive. Of course, as I write this, I am less convinced that I was a few hours ago when I posted that.

I've said this before but I think the Pats win at least 6/10 fantasy rematch games against the Seahawks with the same rosters as SB49. The Patriots moved the ball fairly consistently throughout the game and lost the turn over battle (1-2) but still won (remember, Brady had his own pick in the end zone to match Russ's). By comparison, the Hawks were unable to move the ball at all for the vast majority of the game. Their drives consisted of two long runs at the end of the first half when the Pats were in soft zones, deep passes to Matthews that worked like magic right up until the Pats changed the match-up, and the Lockett circus catch. (Matthews led the team in receiving with 109 yards, 2nd was Lockett at 59 -- 25 on the freak play, Revis erased Baldwin -- the Hawks don't win a game like that getting 4.1 ypc out of Lynch).

The big X-factor is Jeremy Lane's injury as that was certainly very beneficial to the Pats as they abused Simon (although Lane's not going to get an end zone INT on Brady very often).

There is no way I'm considering motivation an uneven factor between those two teams and coaching units in the SB.

Edit: As for my prediction -- I predict either a NE first round exit or SB victory. If they make the SB relatively healthy they'll find a way to handle AZ or CAR and I don't think Seattle can win 4 non-home games in a row against teams that are trying. The caveat here is if the Pats face Houston first then maybe it's 2nd round or SB champs. But if they are good enough to beat Cinci or KC then they'll be good enough to beat the AFC CG contender and should be rolling by Feb. The Pats have shown themselves to be both the best team and worst team* in the NFL this season depending on the month. (*moderate exaggeration)

The AFC West had it tough this year, being a two playoff team division, and matching up against the other two playoff team divisions, the AFC North and NFC North. So San Diego and the Raiders wound up playing 9 games against playoff teams and the Raiders also got the 10 win Jets. Correspondingly, I think Denver and KC might deserve a little extra consideration for the tougher road they had to travel to get to this point.

And yet, in the poll, I chose Denver. What gives? I think Arizona, Seattle and Carolina are the three best teams in the NFL but they're all in the same conference and I don't have as much confidence that my favorite there (the Cardinals) gets through as I do that Denver gets a win at home in the AFCGG.

EDIT: Staz got me... while I wanted to punish the Washington professional football team for their Snyder-ness by making them lose to the Cards even after losing to the Packers, that's probably not within the rules.

I was referring more to the overall storyline and potential officiating bias than to any scenario where Peyton truly carries them. But then again, listening to Simms yesterday I was almost convinced that his apparently unmatched ability to check to a running play and hand off could be the difference!

AFC Champ game Den over ciny this is starting to smell like 1997 for me ciny is like 0-12 in denver all-time
i see ciny leading utnail the 4th when denver gets hot and comes back form a 17-7 defict and wins 21-17

Nfc Champ Game Car over zona 24-13

SB 50 Den over Car 20-17 in ot denver ties it late on a 40-yard fg and wins it on a newton Fumb in OT

is new england better than Denver yes but i think in all the wacky ways denver has won like 4 or 5 games that were wins that should had been losses i just feel the NFL will do everything they can to get peyton atother sb now if brock starts than ciny or ne will win the afc because brock is not ready for playoff football

The NFL, Fox, CBS, ESPN, the Trilateral Commission and the Bundy family will have Kubiak assassinated before he gets a chance to start Osweiler over PeyPey in the playoffs.
