The Goal Line doesn’t end at the sideline, it actually ends at the outside edge of the pylon. So each pylon is 4 inches wide, thus the goal line is actually 8 inches wider than every other line.

Any part of the ball touching any part of the pylon, or crossing over any part of the pylon, is a touchdown.
That oughta answer it.

Outside or inside of the pylon - it's all out of bounds. So how can touching it anywhere be IN the end zone, which is an area of the field that is IN bounds?
You aren't out of bounds until you touch the ground out of bounds. The ball can cross the goal line out of bounds if the player is still in bounds. Imagine a player running into the end zone holding the football out to the side over the pylon.

I wonder if Allen will throw down field now?

With each team looking to get maybe 8 possessions and the Bills kicking to start the third quarter I don’t think they can waste this possession by screwing around with three yards and a cloud of dust.

Does anyone else just feel indifferent about this game? I can usually muster up more hate for one team over the other. I just really want both teams to lose and don’t really care about the outcome.
I lived in upstate NY 78-86, so feel some sympathy for Bills fans. And I hate that Pow-Wow-The-Indian-Boy chant. So inclined to favor Bills over Chiefs, but not strongly

As long as the player goes into the end zone IN BOUNDS, yes. We're talking about the Mahomes play if he dove and landed physically short of the goal line, but extended the ball past the goal line but outside the pylon. That would NOT be a touchdown. But if he hits the outer edge of the pylon, even though the pylon is out of bounds, it's still technically IN the end zone, and since this out of bounds but still in the end zone object exists, it extends the goal line four inches on either side of the field, so it counts as a touchdown.

It is just the rule. It may be because it makes it easier to call. Like the rule that a ball that goes directly over the upright is a good field goal even though it would have been a doink if lower.

It is four inches. So long as everyone has the same rule it really doesn’t matter.

Of course. Everyone playing by the same rules, no biggie. I just prefer for rules and explanations to make some sort of sense.

Bravo. Now that you are in the upper percentiles in rule knowledge, wanna work some Pop Warner games on Saturdays???

I know what we're talking about. It seems you answered your own question that I replied to.

Just when you think a half is going to last some insane short time, the last 2 minutes take 45 minutes
