Any bold predictions for the Patriots? They miss the playoffs amid a slow start but make a push for a WC at the end only to fall short. Bill Belichick takes over play calls on offense by Week 4 and the offense starts to stabilize. Tyquan Thornton comes back at the end of October and shows a lot of promise.

Any bold predictions for anything non-Patriots related? The Chargers and Chiefs battle it out for the AFC West title with Justin Herbert having his best season leading to the MVP award. The Cowboys struggle and the Eagles win the East.

The most unbelievable thing about this post is Zach Wilson not winning MVP if the Jets win the division and are good enough to win the SB.

Loving the optimism from some for sure.

It's a non-zero % for the Pats or Jets to win the East but I think, barring major injuries, it's much closer to zero than, say 25%.

To be serious for a minute, How does the math work on the Steelers making it with both the Ravens and Bengals? I get the argument in the AFC WEST where you have 4 good QBs, but I have a tough time thinking it will work for the North. Their schedule is rough too. I like it, you took a shot. I think Tomlin to go under .500 for the first time is in play.

Considering Vegas has NEP at almost 4 times likely to win the super bowl as NYJ I'm not sure they belong in the same group.

I'll play, #7 Chargers (tough division and 17 road games) surprise the AFC. An NFC player actually gets the MVP (don't think anyone else picked that)

AFC East: Bills
AFC North: Bengals
AFC South: Colts
AFC West: Chiefs

NFC East: Cowboys

I am not sure the Broncos or the Raiders will be good this year. I figure the Steelers, Broncos, Raiders, Patriots, and who knows who else will be fighting for that 7th spot and even though they have a hard schedule this year I like the Steelers defense and pass catchers. Their OL and QB situation is a bit of a mess but if they made it last year banged up and with the ghost of Big Ben then it isn't impossible this year.

AFC teams I expect to be anywhere from below average to terrible: Titans, Texans, Jaguars, Fins, Jets, Browns.

Then these are the teams I could see being anywhere from good to below average because it's hard to get a read on them (my guess is they will be a mixed-bag/average): Patriots, Raiders, Broncos, Steelers.

This is honestly not a scientific exercise for me. If you're going by odds or just want to make this vanilla then I should prefer the Broncos or Raiders to the Steelers. I also shouldn't have the Vikings winning the NFC North. This is just me going by my gut.

Me neither, I read Steelers same way (bad QB, bad Oline). I was just wondering about the internal consistency and thought process.
Vegas Over/Under Wins vs my expected totals: I also underline who I have making the playoffs and italicize who I see differently from Vegas (more than 2 wins lower or higher)

Bills: 11.5 vs 12
Ravens: 10.5 vs 11

Broncos: 10.5 vs 8
Chiefs: 10.5 vs 11
Chargers: 10.5 vs 11
Bengals: 9.5 vs 10

Colts: 9.5 vs 12
Titans: 9.5 vs 8
Browns: 8.5 vs 5
Raiders: 8.5 vs 7
Fins: 8.5 vs 6
Pats: 8.5 vs 7
Steelers: 7.5 vs 9
Jags: 6.5 vs 5
Jets: 5.5 vs 4
Texans: 4.5 vs 3

I think the Colts actually take the #1 seed this year.

Definitely not scientific as your win grand total is a lot less than Vegas (they say the AFC goes 140-132, plus against the NFC) and you have only 129 wins meaning they would be -14 against the NFC.

Vegas has the AFC West crazy strong considering the inter division games

Bills 11.5, Pats 8.5, Fins 8.5, Jets 5.5 = 34 (34-34)
Ravens 10.5, Bengals 9.5, Browns 8.5, Steelers 7.5 = 36 (36-32)
Colts 9.5, Titans 9.5, Jags 6.5, Texans 4.5 = 30 (30-38)
Broncos 10.5, Chiefs 10.5, Chargers 10.5, Raiders 8.5 = (40-28)

AFC Overall 140-132

Sorry, I'm just a nerd :)

My predictions would probably show that I am -30 for the entire league and thus an impossibility lol. Maybe I should revise what I said instead of predicted wins to predicted record vibes. Here is how each team is vibing right now…

Any bold predictions for the Patriots?
Not sure how bold this is, I think they miss the playoffs and I fear Mac will regress due to the lack of a strong OC. The secondary will be better than expected though.

Any bold predictions for anything non-Patriots related?
JimmyG takes over after Trey gets banged up and leads the 49ers to the promised land after Kyle learns to preserve a lead in a Super Bowl.

The clock can hit zero, I can celebrate and go to bed and I will wake up and more likely believe I died and am in some type of afterlife than believe what I witnessed was reality. So, you are correct.

Any bold predictions for the Patriots?
They don’t exceed expectations and the season turns out as bad as pundits said it would. Don’t win more than 2 games in a row. Mac looks terrible but it’s not his fault - he gets eaten for lunch like Burrow did at times last year.

Any bold predictions for the Patriots? They allow more points than they score, but the points allowed total isn't all that bad

Any bold predictions for anything non-Patriots related? A significant TV figure in NFL coverage will resign or be fired during the season after becoming the center of a major scandal

Too late to enter a predicton - and anyway, I have nothing better to add than all of the great predictions that have come before...

Great reading though...
  1. Always admire the optimism of @luckiestman
  2. @j-man as always on point and I wish your Broncos well - would be great if they did win the AFC West as I hate most of the other teams there
  3. I agree with @BusRaker that @SMU_Sox is selling the AFC short...
  4. But I don't think the Patriots will do very well this year. I voted 9 wins in the poll, but struggling to see where they will come from, and unfortunately agree that the Bills will likely take the East, and the AFC Wild Cards will not include the Patriots this year.
  5. Too many uncertainties with coordinators and coaches on our sideline unfortunately (though I am hoping it is all a smokescreen or that BB can adjust when it is clearly shown to not be working - within the next 2 weeks)
  6. My bold Patriot prediction is that Tyquan Thornton will be Malcolm Mitchell-esque when he returns in Week 8, with 25 catches, 450 yards, 6 TDs. If he does, the Patriots might just get to that 9 win total.
  7. Bold non-Patriot prediction is that the Jets win more games than Cleveland - 7 to 4 - and that Jacoby Brissett accounts for 3 of those 4 wins.
Good luck to all who did submit predictions, and LFG!

Book'em, Dano: down with all of this, except the Jets. I predict the Pats will figure it out later in the season, just enough to make a brief, fleeting cameo appearance.

CBS "experts" do not have high expectations for the Patriots. None of the 6 have them reaching playoffs. 5 of 6 have them 3rd in division with the other (La Canfora) placing them last.

All 6 predict an AFC Super Bowl champ with half predicting the Bills to win it all.

https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/2022-nfl-season-predictions-picking-the-super-bowl-playoff-teams-and-final-standings-for-all-32-teams/

Oh - Bold Pats pick: Agholor is the top receiver. That's not super bold I guess?

Bold non-Pats pick: Hopkins comes off suspension and is largely ineffectual. Seahawks win fewer than the current O/U of 5.5 games. Murray has a season that isn't terrible but makes that contract look really bad, and talk of the mandatory study time comes back by December.

My boldest take, and it’s absolutely hard knocks fueled, is that the lions will be decent enough this year to extend Jared Goff’s nfl career by several years.
