I'm guessing there's an error there--they probably switched the 3 and 2 month options. Either way, too rich for my blood. In New York, we'll get 4-5 games on TV, so I'm paying $340 for 11 games? No thanks. It'd be nice if they had a cheaper option that allowed you to follow only one team.

That is steep and they didn't even drop the price from last year. That is really weak.

Here is an excerpt from the email i received when I inquired about this:
Thank you for writing back. I understand you would like to know if NFL Sunday Ticket is available for Playstation 3.
This is available for purchase on Sep 1, 2012 through your PS3 at the PlayStation Network Store. This offer is for $299.95 from Sep 1 to Oct 28, 2012. PS3 follows the same game availability rules as NFL Sunday Ticket with one exception: Game availability is based on the device location instead of the DIRECTV service address.
You should have the following:
1. Sony PlayStation 3
2. Broadband Internet connection: Over 700 kbps download speed from your provider gives the best possible picture quality for NFL Sunday Ticket games.

To use the PS3 to login and access NFL Sunday Ticket games (each Sunday beginning Sep 9, 2012), you may call Sony for support, orders, billing, etc.at (800) 345-7669 orhttp://www.us.playstation.com/support.
Subscribing to this feature allows you to watch your games anywhere in the United States in your own convenient time.
Also, there is an online only option. Here is the first email I received from them (DirecTV):
We are currently offering NFL SUNDAY TICKET 2012 season for non-DIRECTV customers like you to be able to watch the games on your mobile phone, tablet, or computer (PC or Mac) even if you can not get DIRECTV at your current address. You must order online at http://www.directv.c...ayticketspecial and pay by credit card. The credit card billing address must match the address used to register at directv.com.
Please remember that the NFL SUNDAY TICKET online for customers with no account is available for ordering starting 9/1/2012. If you still encounter problems ordering it on or after 9/1/2012, you can call 1-(800) 670-7288. We have our knowledgeable specialists to assist regarding the information you need about registration, cancellation, and troubleshooting issues.
In addition, NFL SUNDAY TICKET online for non-DIRECTV customers can not be cancelled, transferred, refunded, or credited after the season starts (Sep 9, 2012).
Subscribing to this sports subscription gives you the access to the NFL games no matter where you are. If you are out on Sundays, you can still catch your games, live! You will never miss a game even when you are nowhere near a TV.

Does anyone have a direct link to where you can find information on the online-only option? Am I correct in assuming I can purchase only the Sunday Ticket without having to also purchase a cable package along with it?

When I go to the site I select the NFL Sunday Ticket and I am directed to pick a cable package. I don't see an option for selecting "On-line only".

If it's anything like last year, it just won't be available until 9/1.

Word is that this option will become available on September 1st according to this thread at Cord Cutter Guide.

I called DirecTV the other day and was told an online-only package would be available for purchase on Sept 1. The reason for the delay is that DirecTV is currently giving away NFL ST for free with new subscriptions, so they don't want to cannibalize their own business by allowing customers to just wait til September to order the online-only version. This is why we've seen nothing publicly, except for some mentions on Twitter and by calling them directly.

It should be available for purchase here on Sept 1: http://www.directv.c...ayticketspecial

How secure is the online Sunday Ticket against multi-device access? If I split the $250 with my roommates, would we all be able to log on and watch games we want at the same time, or are they savvy to that?

Why pay for online, if you can get all the games online for free? If you're going to pay that money, it seems to make sense to get it on the PS3, so you can connect it directly to a TV. I know you can connect modems to TVs these days, but the pictures usually lose some quality on the transfer, do they not? Then there's the question of legality of the free sites, but I think they're all in a legal blackhole for the time being. That is to say, some of them aren't yet illegal.

$250 for the online version isn't terrible, still don't know if I'd pull the trigger on it.

Thanks Danny.
No problem. I was hoping it'd come in at around $150-$199, but I think I'll end up biting the bullet and ordering.

There's a pretty great Patriots bar down here in Houston, but assuming I'd have to go there for at least 10 games that aren't on nationally/regionally, I'd have to spend $25/game at the bar to break even, which is like 3-4 beers and an order of wings.

Plus I'm a fantasy junkie and will want to be able to flip around the games and Red Zone Network at my leisure. And I like cooking my own food haha.

The quality of the streams on those free sites is abysmal though. I've been watching the preseason games on them and the picture/sound quality is excruciating. Are there any that are close to HD quality?

My laptop has HDMI-out, so I can just run the feed from my laptop to my big screen. I do this with Netflix and the quality is great.

I also have a PS3, but I live in an apartment without hardwired internet. Instead, I get the wireless signal from the landlord's house about 50-75 feet away. The wireless radios in the PS3 blow ass and the quality leaves a lot to be desired. I use it for MLB.TV and it sputters way too much for my liking. My laptop, on the other hand, picks up the signal much better and never has any issues, so I'm willing to pay a premium to get the online-only subscription.

I'm OK with not pirating things if I feel like I'm paying fair value. I'm also OK with pirating things if I don't (hello, WWE PPVs!). Picking up a PS3 is definitely an option, just that hardware + subscription cost > just subscription cost.

If you do pick up a PS3, check ebay for a console that has a broken disk drive, but that is still able to access the Playstation Network. Before I knew there would be an online-only option, I was able to score a PS3 with a broken disk drive for $79 on ebay.

What bar?
Lucky's Pub on Saint Emanuel down by the new Houston Dynamo stadium. Huge projector screen with audio. I watched a few games there last season and there were easily 50-60 Pats fans packed into the front room of the bar, all decked out in their gear. Great atmosphere. The Texans fans were relegated to the smaller projector screen on the other side of the bar.

You live in Houston, I take it? I just moved down here this past April.

Interesting- thanks. Yea, I've been working here in Houston for 4 years, and usually end up watching a terrible online stream or listening on my Sirius app. I mirror your views on watching at home rather than a bar, so I may consider this. Anyone know whether I'd be able to send the DirecTV feed through Apple TV mirroring and keep pretty good quality on a 40" TV?

I'm interested in this as well. I share an MLB.TV account with a friend in New York and it works fine for each of us. I'd be be looking to share the NFLST account with a friend in DC. I guess we really won't know until Week 1.

Last year, DirecTV's NFL Sunday Ticket came to the PlayStation 3 for $340. This year, the package is back and allows you to live stream out of market NFL games. Plus, it's cheaper at $299.95.

NFL Sunday Ticket launches September 4th on the PlayStation 3, and in addition to the live games on Sunday, packs the "Red Zone" channel that houses highlights, scores and schedules.
http://www.ign.com/articles/2012/08/29/nfl-sunday-ticket-returns-to-ps3

So it sounds like it'll be $299.95 on the PS3 and $250 for online-only access.

If I buy the online version, is there any free way to get it to think I live in another region? I'm sure it blacks out the Patriots games because it knows I am in New England. I can't watch the Pats preseason games on the NFL app.

I believe this will involve using a proxy. I've never done it, but I know folks do for MLB.tv.

Does this include Monday/Thursday games or only Sunday games?

It keeps saying every NFL SUNDAY TICKET game, but never mentions if this means only Sunday games.

I think it's just Sunday 1:00 and 4:00 games since, at the other times, there is only 1 game happening at a time and it's available nationally (local carriers' NFL network availability notwithstanding)

2. Can I log into NFL SUNDAY TICKET on my phone and computer at the same time?
You can only be logged in to NFL SUNDAY TICKET on one device at a time. If you want to switch from one device to another, log out of your first device. If you get an error message after logging out of the first device, please wait 30 seconds and try again.

The site says: "That means you can watch every out-of-market game LIVE every Sunday anywhere you have an Internet connection—in your home, in your favorite café, anywhere."

Since the other games are available nationally via ESPN, NFL Network, or NBC, those would be subject to blackout rules.

Hope this lets you log into multiple devices at the same time. Would love to array laptops, ipads, and tvs around my living room with all the games on.

Whether that's legit, or just an idle threat, I don't know. Have we seen a similar policy for MLB.tv (which does allow multiple devices to be logged in at once)?

Still interested in the mirroring capability on Apple TV through either iPhone or Mac... If I recall, NBA streaming has figured out a way to block this. Elsewhere on the site I find this:

Can I use my Apple TV to view NFL SUNDAY TICKET?
No. Apple TV is not supported to view NFL SUNDAY TICKET. Apple users can view on their MAC computer, iPad (iOS v3.2 or higher), iPhone (iOS v3.1.3 or higher) or iPod Touch(iOS v3.1.3 or higher).

But not sure how up to date that is or if it refers to mirroring at all.

I ordered it, this is a pretty awesome deal. Trying to watch games on whatever.tv works but it generally sucks, the picture sucks, it's inconsistent, and not good enough. I couldn't be happier this is available on line, much better than being available on PS3. Now you can watch multiple games, including the game on the TV, at the same time using laptops and/or tablets.

This is awesome, thanks for the link Mr. Corsi.

For those with computers/laptops with HDMI-out, this online option is a no-brainer.

There were a lot of complaints last year about issues with the PS3 NFL Sunday Ticket, but I remain confident that the online-version will have less hiccups.

My only concern is that I'll have to get up every time I want to switch the game on Sunday Ticket. Do wireless mouses work from 15 feet away? If so, then I'd really be in business.

Anyone have any idea if they really care or check for "cannot get DIRECTV at their residence due to line-of-sight issues"? The old owners of the house had directv so clearly there is a record of my address somewhere. That said, I don't want to switch from Fios but will gladly signup for this. I have to imagine they'd happily take my $250 and call it a day. Anyone try to sign up yet? If my iPad can stream this to my tv via AppleTV, this is a real no brainer. I guess a htpc isn't a bad option either.

They won't check. I just went ahead and ordered it and it just asks you to tick off a few boxes that say whether or not you're able to get it at your residence.

Just noticed these options. Pretty sweet.
  • Create your own Mix Channel by choosing the games you want to see at the same time on one screen.
  • See picture-in-picture (one game in a small screen within another game full-screen).
Edit: you can now log-in to see the interface

I hope I can also watch on a laptop (not simultaneously) with the PS3 option. I'm guessing I won't because DirecTV and the NFL suck out loud, but for $300 you'd think they could do that.

Can't imagine that will work, why the hell pay extra for PS3 in that case? To me, the PS3 option should be the online option PLUS PS3. I'll be quite pissed if it isn't.

Sounds like you're right.

From a post in this thread over at Cord Cutter Guide:
I spoke with a Directv agent and ask if I purchased the Sunday NFL ticket through PS3 would i still be able to access it through my PC or mobile Devices. The Agent said YES. She stated that PS3 version is indeed NFL MAX and the PS3 version price has included the NFL-to-go- package. That explains why the PS3 is 299.95 and the Directv version online is 250.00..you are paying for the 50.00 dollars to-go- package. She stated that u will purchased the app through the PS3 but you will be registered with a password with Directv Websites. Once u are registered you will be able to access the Sunday Ticket through PC, mobile devices, laptop and your PS3, which she stated that the PS3 was considered a mobile device. She also stated u can only log into one device at a time
