Keep in mind, you can only use this if you can't get DirectTV, or if you have DirectTV.

If you have another cable service, but are eligible for DirecTV, no good.

Exclusive Offers From DirecTV
  1. For fans who are not currently DirecTV subscribers but are able to receive DirecTV service, they will receive a promo code entitling them to $10 off per month for their first year of service and one year of NFL Sunday Ticket Max at no additional charge.
  2. For fans who are already DirecTV and NFL Sunday Ticket Max subscribers, you can access NFL Sunday Ticket on your computer, tablet, and mobile devices using your current DirecTV username and password.
  3. For fans unable to receive DirecTV service, each Madden NFL 25 Anniversary Edition will include a unique code to access the 2013 regular season (17 weeks) trial of NFL Sunday Ticket on computers, tablets, and mobile devices- including access to the award-winning Red Zone Channel.

If I'm reading this correctly, the PS3-only (no DTV) Sunday Ticket option is not included in this promotion.
Agree?

I would be willing to go this route if it meant I could have Sunday Ticket on my PS3 without having to order DTV.

Exactly. It's not hard to say "I can't get DirecTV" - usually all you need is an apartment #...

The thing that makes me scratch my head is this - For fans unable to receive DirecTV service, each Madden NFL 25 Anniversary Edition will include a unique code to access the 2013 regular season (17 weeks) trial of NFL Sunday Ticket on computers, tablets, and mobile devices- including access to the award-winning Red Zone Channel.

In what ways is it a "trial" if it's full access for all 17 weeks...?

Also, the service was pretty terrible last year, at least for me. It froze constantly, and when it came to again, it didn't catch up, it would leave me behind. So, by the end of the game, I'd be 20-30 minutes behind. It might be enough for me to commit to watching the games out at bars.

They said this last year, but all you had to do was check the box that said "I cannot receive DirecTV where I live" while signing up.

Lots of misinformation here.

I signed up for the online-only version last year and was able to watch both online and via my PS3 using the same login.  I was not a DTV customer, outside of Sunday Ticket.

Just to clarify this, it should read "if you can get but have not yet subscribed to DirecTV" -- this promotion doesn't do anything for people who have already subscribed to DTV. Just like every other Sunday Ticket promotion they've ever done.

I'm just going off the offer FAQ.

Can I use this service to access NFL Sunday Ticket on my PS3?
This service is available on your computer, mobile and tablet applications only.

Don't you normally need to pay an additional fee for mobile/computer access? I thought that's what was being offered to current DirecTV customers. Free access to the mobile/computer portion.

It's certainly possible they'll tighten up restrictions this year, but last year, you could access the PS3 app using your computer/mobile/tablet login.

As other mentioned, the PS3 service was a bit clunky anyway (though I was on a pretty shitty wifi connection).  I ended up running my laptop through my TV via HDMI and used a wireless mouse on my coffee table to switch games.

I'd hope if they're rolling the service out this way and making a big effort to promote the online Sunday Ticket offering, they'll step up their game in terms of streaming quality.

edit: In terms of re-selling, which will fetch more, the PS3 or XBox copy?

any indication on whether or not this promo code is embedded in the game menus so you need a console to access it?  It may not just be a printed insert.

The Amazon page for this promo has a header that says "Exclusive Offers From DirecTV" and the 2nd offer states "For fans who are already DirecTV and NFL Sunday Ticket Max subscribers, you can access NFL Sunday Ticket on your computer, tablet, and mobile devices using your current DirecTV username and password."

Sunday Ticket Max is the more expensive of the two subscriptions and includes mobile/computer access, so the exclusive offer ought to say "you can access what you have already paid for."

It was actually pretty solid for me. No freeze-ups, no slowness, full HD. It was real nice. At this price it's worth it for Red Zone alone if you don't get that.

I'm really confused here. The original link says:

The Madden NFL 25 Anniversary Edition comes packed with a season-long subscription to NFL Sunday Ticket (17 weeks, typically $49.99 per month for five months)

which makes me think that, since I have DirecTV, I will get Sunday Ticket for free if I buy the game.

But then the actual press release says:

Offers include:
  • Fans who are not currently DIRECTV subscribers but are able to
receive DIRECTV service will receive a promo code entitling them to $10
off per month for their first year of service and one year of NFL SUNDAY
TICKET MAX at no additional charge.
  • Fans who are already DIRECTV and NFL SUNDAY TICKET MAX subscribers
can access NFL SUNDAY TICKET on computer and mobile devices using their
    current DIRECTV username and password.
  • For fans unable to receive DIRECTV service, each Madden NFL 25
Anniversary Edition will include a unique code to access the 2013
regular season (17 weeks) trial of NFL SUNDAY TICKET on computers,
tablets, and mobile devices- including access to DIRECTV's award-winning
    RED ZONE CHANNEL®.
  • Owners of the Anniversary Edition will also receive an exclusive
Madden Ultimate Team pack each week of the NFL season, starting week 1
    through week 17.
No where in there does it say that, as a current subscriber, I will get Sunday Ticket for free. Help?!

It's completely confusing and horribly written which leads me to believe that it was done intentionally in order to sell more games. But unless they are giving out free Sunday Ticket to everyone who buys the game, people are going to be bullshit and there will be a swift backlash.

As a DirecTV subscriber this statement is completely baffling:

"Fans who are already DIRECTV and NFL SUNDAY TICKET MAX subscribers can access NFL SUNDAY TICKET on computer and mobile devices using their current DIRECTV username and password."

This is already part of the package for NFL Sunday Ticket Max so either you get no benefit or it is worded wrong. I'm thinking that you may get the upgrade from regular Sunday Ticket to Sunday Ticket Max as the value would be about $75 but who really knows.

I buy Madden every year -- which costs me $60. During the NFL season, I join a handful of friends at my boy's house, who is an Eagles' fan, and we watch the best games available nationally. I usually bring my laptop and watch the Dolphins on an illegal stream somewhere on the 'net simultaneously. I was hoping this purchase would allow me to watch the games on my laptop in better quality. If so, it'd be, without a doubt, worth an additional $40.

I believe the way this works is:

If you HAVE Directv, this offer does not get you free Sunday Ticket through your receiver and TV. It gets you a discount on that, and free access to watch it on a mobile device and/or PS3.

If you don't, you'll be able to stream via mobile device or PS3. I know last year I had the same question regarding the PS3, because it wasn't specifically mentioned, but you're basically able to log on to one single compatible device at a time.

Also, regarding the "service eligibility," that's basically a check they out in there so that the Sunday Ticket MAX doesn't cannibalize their regular service. It's literally a box you check when signing up that says you can't get service.

And when they say "17 week trial" I think that's in there so people don't assume that the pass is good for life. It's good for the 2013 season.

I've preordered and I'm super pumped. Just saved a lot of dough.

I guess the question is - when is xbox One coming out and will there be a version of madden 25 for it? My understamding is that the One platform will not be backwards compatible. So I'm potentially spending $100 for a game I cant even play on the current platform.

PS4 and XBONE will probably come out around the holidays, while Madden usually ships in August. So those versions will definitely be late but they'll almost certainly exist. They'll probably suck if they're anything like the first Madden for PS3 and 360. I don't understand your problem though - if you have a 360 now, are you planning on totally ditching it for an XBONE? That's a bad idea IMO, games usually trickle out at first and there will still be a lot of stuff coming out for 360 for a while. I'd like to get a PS4 at some point but don't have plans to dump my PS3 anytime soon.

I got Sunday Ticket Online last year (available to those of us who dont have/cant get directv) which doesnt seem to be an offering this season. This year they have sunday ticket max to watch on computer or phone/tablet but i only see that offering for subscribers. In fact directv doesnt even recognize the account i setup last year (cant login to last years app, etc). Has anyone seen anything about a non-subscriber option?

For folks that want to stream from laptop to television, I recommend picking up a Chromecast for $35.

You'll be able to stream the game right from the Chrome browser to your television (while also freeing up your laptop to do whatever else you want).

Question for the tech-savvy folks:

I should theoretically be able to access the games using an iPad and stream the game to my television using AppleTV (via airplay), correct?  (In this scenario, would I be getting a full-screen picture on my television?)

Would the picture quality be superior utilizing the Chromecast or would the difference be negligible?  If its the latter, its not worth throwing $35 at the Chromecast.  If its the former, I better pre-order Chromecast now to ensure I have it for Week 1.

Thoughts?

I'm not sure about Airplay, but I could connect an iPad to a TV via an HDMI cord and that worked. It worked better in September than in December. Over the course of the season, the quality and consistency of the strem decreased. And it was on a pretty hefty delay. But it was good in a pinch and if they offer it to me, I will get it again this year. If the Chromecast works, I think that might be better.

Regarding the Chromecast, it's an ok device but it is limited and I hear the video quality is poor.  But what can you expect for $35.  Google is trying to undercut Apple and Roku.  Read more here.

I really wish DTV, NFL, ESPN, etc. would just offer some sort of package (call it mobile device or something) where you could watch on ANY device you wanted so long as you had a valid subscription.  I'm traveling for work and want to catch some of the game on my tablet, so I long in and boom, there it is.  I want to watch the game at home, so I log into my laptop and pipe it to my HDTV and there you go.  I would pay for some type of season package like that in a heart beat.  But no, instead you have Sun. games, SNF, MNF, and flippin' TNF.  Lame.

I can't say I've ever watched anything live on Youtube, but I would rather the NFL develop their own app similar to MLB.tv or NBC's Sunday night football app. Of course Google is more likely to offer more consistent service and accessible pricing.

While I commend the NFL for thinking in a forward manner (DirecTv without the NFL exclusive will join BlockBuster Video in the graveyard); I’m wondering why they just don’t copy the MLB’s model and offer the Sunday Ticket to the cable companies while delivering streaming content via NFL.com.

Now – it could be they’re looking to shutout the cable companies altogether (certainly a future concept) but I think that’s a little further down the road.
IMO --- If they copy MLB’s current delivery for the next 2-4 years --- it’ll allow them the flexibility to go the next step as smartphones and tablets become more powerful.

Google gets you instant integration - I can play YouTube pretty much anywhere right now including phone, browser or TV. I think that I'd take that and what might be (initially) a UI that's not optimized for the NFL over trouble with the actual video and compatibility off the bat.

They do have apps and they all for the most part stink.  They're slow, buggy, and clunky.  As is their .com site which for my money is one of the worst websites going.  Youtube is much more capable of delivering a modern streaming experience.

If you do this, make sure your VPN provider offers The Netherlands as Gamepass was free there last year (and is probably again free this year). I know Europeans who used this method last year, so it should certainly work for you.

If you pay for Gamepass, use Brazilian Real - it's the cheapest currency.

Not familiar with using Airplay to watch it on the TV, sorry.

That's why DirectTV is paying $1B a year for it. Knowing the NFL, this is just an attempt to get more out of them.

Cooked it up myself. I logged in using a VPN to see if I could (I can), and now it's an issue of whether a US billing address will pose a problem. I'd think it wouldn't, since I could be a US student studying abroad, which theoretically shouldn't be a bar.

So I just logged in using a Netherlands VPN and was able to watch a live preseason game without inputting any login, password, or information. We'll see how it holds up in the regular season.
