Anyone use Chromecast today? If so, how did it work?

I havent received mine yet but Pats were on cbs here in nyc so i didnt need it yet. Actually i had to head to airport about 3 and was disappointed the pats game wouldnt stream because it was on locally, but redzone streamed mostly well on my Droid DNA.

I too paid $250 and $350 the last 2 years so the Madden hack is outstanding. Certainly most cost effective season of following the pats the last 15 years (when you factor in cost of watching games at bars).

I used it and was not that impressed.  The feed was clear HD on my computer and then with chromecast it was choppy or at best "standard def" on my TV.

Question for the thread:

I was streaming the feed via the Sunday Ticket app on the iPad, but when I tried to send it to my AppleTV via Airplay, all I got was the audio.  Is it possible that the NFL was able to block the video feed from being sent via Airplay or were my settings just incorrect?

Thanks in advance for any insight, much appreciated.

EDIT:  Looks like you need to utilize the Airplay Mirroring feature.

So I just logged in using a Netherlands VPN and was able to watch a live preseason game without inputting any login, password, or information. We'll see how it holds up in the regular season.
I was excited to try Game Pass yesterday and I was impressed. I use Astrill VPN to get around Geo-blocked UK TV sites and one of the options is for the Netherlands. I pay $39.95 for 6 months. I switched the VPN to the Netherlands and hooked up my lap top to the 60" big screen via the HDMI. It was abslolutely perfect in terms of picture quality.

For shits and giggles I then downloaded the Game Pass  app to my iphone. Since I am in the U.S I just created a bogus account and logged in and changed the country for the itunes store ( not available in the U.S store) . I downloaded the app and was able to stream on my iphone no problem. I should be all set for the rest of the season providing they don't pull the plug on it.

Thanks for the tip!

Glad to hear it CodPiece. I was at a funeral for game 1, but I used GamePass tonight and it was relatively flawless. I too set up a bogus iTunes account, switched to the Netherlands iTunes store, and downloaded the GamePass app to my iPad. The key is getting the game running and then shutting off the VPN, which will allow you to stay connected while reverting to the superior local wifi connection. I then AirPlayed it to my Apple TV--the HD was better than that of MLB.TV and near-1080i cable quality.

Any advice on Netherlands Gamepass vs buying a code for the Madden Sunday ticket offer? I am getting a headache trying to figure out vpn stuff, but I am also not psyched to pay 125 bux for the madden code on ebay when a) a bunch of you have complained about it, and b) I cant use it on Roku. Not that I am likely to manage to get my Roku configured to work via Netherlands vpn...

So, which one is more likely to work (my setup is windows/android/roku), and if you recommend vpn, do you have links for a decent tutorial?

I can only speak about my experience but I would download Astrill VPN for free weeks trial from here:

https://www.astrill.com/sign-up.php

I would download to a laptop initially. Then you can try watching the game on the laptop or hook it up to a TV with HDMI. If you get it working and like it then you can download the app from the Droid Market place ( I have an iphone so I am assuming it's available for Droid).

On the PC, just download it with the desk top icon. Once complete all you do is click on it and select which ever country you want to use. Some have more than one IP to choose from. The process is easy, you don't have to play around with ports etc. It does all that for you. You then have a foreign VPN IP. Then go to the game pass web site and start streaming.

The only caveat is that if you use multiple devices it boots you off from one when you sign on to another. Not a big deal for me and I chose not to pay extra. Their support extended my free trial so I could play around with different devices. So.........just go with the free trial and see how it works. Then decide if you want to pay for 6 months, actually, 3 months would cover the season right now ($29.95). Keep in mind they may get wind of this workaround and it could be pulled any time. I don't care about the money aspect since I use Astrill for getting around geo-blocked BBC sites anyway.

EDIT: My experience is just like RSN. The quality of hooking it up via the HDMI was better than MLB Gamepass and just not quite as good as true 1080 HD. I was pleasantly surprised.

Added. Tutorial link: https://www.astrill.com/video-tutorials.php

I've had much more luck with the App on the iPad then I have streaming from my Mac.  App is a few seconds ahead, better quality, and hasn't cut out nearly as much.

I watched the Pats game on Gamepass from start to finish, no issues, no buffering. it takes about 30 seconds to get to full HD initially , after that, perfect. I tend only to watch Pats games so can't comment on other streams.

Uhhhh anyone else not able to watch any of the late games?

I'm having that problem now, yes. Can see RedZone channel fine, but only get team logos for games themselves.

I got a pop-up message late in the early games about a firewall issue. I closed it without really reading it. I re-booted and re-signed in, still no games or pop-up, RZ fine.

   Madden sign-in here.

edit: all games back 15 minutes later.

For some reason GP stream has been awful on PC for the 4pm games, but decent on iPad. All 1pm games were in glorious HD.

Yeah same here, it came back. Honestly it was perfect until the later games didn't work, then there was some slowness.

For those interested in NFL Gamepass, I tried this (free) method of accessing it today. Worked like a charm. (First post of that page.)

I rarely boot into Windows on my dual-boot machine, so I've got a pretty clean Windows 7 install to boot into. YMMV.

Streamed quality wasn't so good at first, even after disconnecting the VPN. Shut it down, tried again and it's streaming the NFLN live in HD quality.

I think the Madden sign-in may be my backup going forward. Great for Thursday and Monday games that my rabbit ears don't get, too.

mikeford....I had problems today too, first time I tried to connect just prior to 1PM on a Sunday.

I think that free VPN site gets slammed at that time. Going forward, I'd suggest starting the stream an hour or two before kickoff.

Got an email today from Directv saying that they're going to start automatically billing me for Sunday Ticket at $39.99 for six months. As a new subscriber last year, I had Sunday Max for free. I'm currently in the middle of a two-year contract. Any chance in hell I can negotiate them down on the price or do I simply have no leverage until my two years are up?

You can definitely negotiate. I was in the same position last year and I think they dropped the price to $34.99/month and also gave me like a $10/month credit for 12 months. So net-net I was only out like $90 for Sunday Ticket. Thanks for the reminder that I need to negotiate again...

Call, say cancel, say cancel again, tell them you can't afford DTV along with that price and you want to know the ETF to cancel.

Go from there. Be nice and chatty.

Yup, went through the same process yesterday. Didn't have to go through the "cancel" routine, but just asked them if they could work with me on it. Got the monthly reduced to $31.99 and then an additional $10/month discount on normal programming for six months. Great deal

Thanks, guys.  Let you know how it turns out.

UPDATE: I finally got around to calling tonight. I started with the retention department because I mentioned when I first called that I wanted to cancel. Once I revealed to them that I could not afford Sunday Ticket and my current subscription rate, they sent me to the "Sunday Ticket Dept." Sounds like BS, but maybe not. Anyway, the woman I spoke with said they could reduce the price from 39.99 for six months to 34.99 and I said no, not good enough. She, then, said the absolute best discount they could give me is 31.99. I took it. Now, my plan is to call as soon as the NFL season is over and bluff that I'm canceling in order to reduce my overall subscription price. By then, I'll have just seven months left on my contract.

A further question would be if anyone has successfully done the free ticket in exchange for a year commitment thing since 2013. I may try that.

Just got my email for 2016 season. Was listed at 44.99 for 6 months, which is just under $270. Called and was able to get it down to $215 with minimal negotiation. I'm sure someone out there can do better.

Tell me more. Show me the way.
In fairness I think I got lucky with my customer service agent. He was sympathetic. I asked to cancel, they asked why, I said bill was too high, my wife says we can't spend that much on TV when Comcast will basically give it to us for free with our cable and internet, etc.

Called today. Had it reduced from $44.99/month to $35.99/month, and got a $50/month credit for 12 months for a 1 year commitment.

So net-net, instead of paying $270 in total for Sunday Ticket, I am now paying $210 and receiving $600 back, for a swing of $660. WOOT!

Edit: they did say that ATT is telling them not to give it away for free any more

Do you mind me asking what your normal bill was before this deal? Also, did you go through the retention department after threatening to leave?

What are my options to view the Pats? Direct TV is available in my area but trees blocking the signal makes it impossible to access viewing.
(No, I'm not cutting the trees down.)
You can buy the streaming service that plays on your computer or the app on most devices (e.g. XBox, PS3, PS4, Roku, Amazon Fire, etc.) for $200 for the season ($49.99/mo). The ripoff this year is that it doesn't include RedZone, which will cost you an extra $25/month.

Here
Did they relax the Sunday Ticket TO GO restrictions? I have checked my address before with no luck but this time I put a B in the Unit field and I got right to the payment screen. Hmmm, to pay or to keep hoping for good illegal feeds each Sunday? Have people been happy with Sunday Ticket To Go?

Yeah, it worked fine for me last year from what I recall. It was delayed several seconds from the broadcast though, so it makes the game threads kind of a drag.

One other option (not sure if this was mentioned upthread) is to get the official NFL GameDay international streaming package. You will need a VPN (I use unblock-us which is $4.99/month). I think the NFL package cost is $125 for the year. You must visit their website when your VPN is working (I.e. Browsing as international) - otherwise you only get offered to purchase their delayed (non live) streaming package, or their radio package.

The international package includes NFL network,pre-season games, it also streams Hard Knocks (not live, 1 week delay), and you can watch every regular season game. I have had it the past two years, and outside the normal occasional streaming hiccups it's been great. Very close to HD quality streams. Downside is there is no app for it (there is an IOS app I think, but it's only available on the non US App Store - I didn't bother trying to setup my device for that).

So I am on directv, have been since 2011, and we are currently out of contract. I called them yesterday and told them we were looking to make a switch to save $. I paid for Sunday Ticket last year and told them that while I was still interested in it, I had zero qualms with not having it and making a switch. (They love to tell you that they are the only ones who have it etc etc).
Anyway, after a few back and forths with the gentleman, they finally offered me a deal that, including Sunday Max, was going to cost me $123 a month ($128 after taxes). They would even throw in free Showtime for 4 months but that I would have to sign up for a 12-month commitment. Now, the program package we currently have they no longer offer as it includes several channels that have since been bumped up a tier. The lad told me I could save another $10 a month with some entertainment package, but that I'd lose like 40 channels, including CBS sports, MLB, Big Ten, and a few others we watch. So that ain't happening.

Didn't have a lot of time to haggle but wanted a deal. I told them the bill was too much, things were gonna have to be cut. The first lady gave me $40 off per month for the next 6 months. I said Sunday Ticket will have to go too, way to much and I'm a Pats fan and am ticked off. That's a trigger word because she said they could do more and kicked me to the NFL area. They said, "I see your a Pats fan" and then offered 25% off. So a quick $330 savings over 6 months for 10 minutes on the phone.
