You know the refs are in the bag for the chiefs when Andy Reid hasn’t challenged a call until the 4th quarter of week 5

Throwing it into the back of your offensive line to avoid grounding might be genius

Remember when Bill got killed for signing JSS. I wonder what the problem was last year?
Well, he's got 9 catches in 5 games. That projects to: 31 catches over a 17-game season. Nice average (16.1) but it's such a small sample hugely influenced by one huge play. Last year he had 29 receptions in 11 games, which projected to 45 receptions.

It really bothers me that KC continues to be so great. Mahomes isn't lighting it up these days (13th in the NFL in scoring at 23.4 ppg), but he's doing enough and the defense has become excellent (6th in the NFL in scoring at 17.0 ppg). Every aspect of that team is run well, and every phase is very good.

Looking back, Spags was really an excellent hire for them. He's kind of like their Dante. He can make the defense competitive even if the personnel is not elite (that's not to say they don't have good personnel, but he also puts them in good positions to succeed). And he's allowed them to weather some offensive challenges. I still think the team is very beatable, but they will have to be beaten. They are not going to give away games.

I agree. And it seems like they get favorable calls and breaks all the time. I'm 100% sure this is how the rest of the league felt about the Patriots for 20 years, so I can't really complain. But still, now that we're HERE, it bothers me. :)

They’re not a great team. They weren’t last year either. But they’re “great” compared to the rest of the lackluster AFC.

This is a fantastic comp. They are now a defensive team with a magical QB who can make just enough plays to steal any game.

The entire post is bang on, especially the last two sentences. It’s like the Pats under BB. The combination of a QB who you can never kill plus a really smart team / coaching staff makes them extremely difficult to beat.

Yep, in so many ways the Chiefs are now what the Patriots were in the TB/BB era.

it’s not like the NFC is boiling over with great teams, that conference is just as lackluster as the AFC unless you think the Sam Darnold Vikings are actually an elite team

The Chiefs are great relative to the current league landscape. Could they hang with the all time great teams? Probably not but they have a HOF caliber QB, HC, TE and DC and enough solid pieces around them to have a fighting chance in any game against any team from the past.
