I would say that this was horrendous officiating, but I've already used that a few times today.  So let's just call it perfectly normal NFL officiating.

In the past, I've seen 15 yarders for calling that second timeout. Did they change the rule?
they didn't give him the timeout, or it would have been 15 yards, now what exactly they stopped the play for if not to call a penalty or grant a timeout I have no idea

How do the refs choose or not choose to "give him the timeout?" He was calling it.

I don't root for injuries, but Greg Hardy is way up there of players I wouldn't feel exactly sorry for, should that be something besides missing a series or two.

Right, but the only way I can interpret the rule is that the act of calling the second timeout is the penalty---the rule makes no sense if it is that it has to be 'granted' in order to generate the penalty, does it?  That says you can get the benefit of a TO (clock stops, can swap players out, get a break) you just pay yards to get it.  Pretty sure that is not the rule.

Maybe I'm missing something, but seems like they should have assessed the penalty as soon as someone from Seattle asked for the TO.

Garrett should have (and may have) asked for a booth review of number of players on field when it was stopped.

There are two things happening every game and every week that make me commiserate with fans of every team - head/neck injuries and the absolute clownshoes performance art that is officiating in today's NFL.

And as I type Ricardo Lockette is knocked out cold.

It really does feel like officiating has gotten worse. It doesn't make sense.

Oh shit Lockette.

Ya know I get the players wanting to support him but really back away a few yards and give the medics some room.

Didn't look like anything too malicious in Dallas, but fuck that's terrible.  Really hope he's okay.

I vaguely remember hearing something about a lot of recent turnover.

Still don't understand why they don't make officiating a full time job.

I love how players are getting carted off the field every five minutes while the league is busy making sure Patriots employees have the proper credentials.

When something serious happens I always think about the family who is watching on TV. Can't imagine the fear they are feeling not knowing.  Just horrible.

Pereira again saying refs screwed up the call....just because the guy is hurt doesn't mean it is a penalty.

Pereira is so much better than Mike Carey...and many of the guys actually doing the job on the field are somewhere at or below Carey's level.

There was nothing illegal about that block.  It was just unfortunate.

It looked like Lockette either slipped or pulled something trying to get away from the blockers and then looked up and tried to react to the Cowboys' player coming straight at him.

Hard to understand that hit being a foul, but holy crap that was a horrific hit.

If the NFL had college's 'targeting' penalty, that might apply there.

Why do the Seahawks always benefit from horrendous refereeing?

The result of the hit is extremely unfortunate but there's no way that was an illegal hit. This game sucks.

Oh good he's moving his hands.

No way. He ducked into the hit. Not a chance that's targeting.
