Hearing the Islanders plan on being very active in their push for Panarin. Sounds like Lou's going big-game hunting; I don't believe Lee's out of picture regardless of Panarin outcome. IMO, Isles want to make a splash this off-season. Whether they can is a wait-and-see.

$20.7 million in cap space for the Isles with only Lee and Lehner being the significant free agents.

Lots of RFA offer sheet chatter this year. I’ll believe it when I see it, but sure would love offer sheets becoming a regular thing. Marner, Connor, Aho, Provorov all reportedly heard from other teams today.

Less Old Hockey Man in the league (slightly..) than before means more potential for offer sheets. I would be shocked if there wasn't at least one and probably 4-5. Just thank God McAvoy isn't eligible.

There is nothing that could make me happier than hearing someone offer sheets Marner. There's no way the leafs would let him go, and they'd destroy their cap. Then when they aren't good enough, Mitch would take the heat. Glorious.

Leafs will never in their right mind match a 12+ mil offer sheet. Dubas is the best GM in the league.
How? Having a bunch of top 10 picks produce (5 of top 7 scorers with Tavares and Kapanen being the two others...also first rounders) and signing Tavares doesn’t exactly scream best GM in the NHL. Especially when they can’t get you out of the first round. Plus he has Shanny as the president and has only done the job for one year. During which the Nylander situation was bungled. I know he uses analytics so that must mean he’s awesome but he hasn’t done shit as an actual GM and not just the co-AGM.

I see zero evidence of this. His proclamation that they may not match was the most empty threat ever. He wouldn't let marner walk.

Paying no "stars", filling your roster and using the 1sts to acquire future assets and keep your window open longer is a great spot. I would never want my team to match that type of OS.

Would you be willing to pay Marner and lose four first round picks?
Oh for the Bruins? Heck no. I was saying if I were any team I probably wouldn't. I was just pondering if I had an owner that demanded I go after one of them, I would give up the 4 picks and money for Marner over just money for Duchene. I think the divide is that big. Sorry my reply wasn't clear.

It is going to be hard for the Leafs to significantly improve their roster. When Marner signs they’ll have to trade Brown and another piece to get under the cap. The other piece is probably Zaitsev. That leaves them thin on D with Gardiner and Zaitsev gone. I guess they then dangle Kadri for a D replacement (or futures to give them the space to sign Gardiner). I don’t know, it is a lot of moving parts, but it seems like the end result is a more expensive, but lateral roster at best. I probably would’ve traded Nylander for a D last summer.

Anyways, UFA rumblings:

Panarin- Visiting NYR today. FLA seems to be the favorite, but NYI and NYR in the chase as well.

Duchene- Spent time with Montreal yesterday, is with Nashville today. Nashville long considered the favorite, but Duchene grew up in a Habs family. Duchene in Habs pajama’s photo incoming.

Pavelski- Visited Dallas yesterday, Tampa today. Could be a 3rd visit, talked to others on the phone. So anyone, really.

McKenzie doing his best Woj impersonation...nothing done yet, but:

- Bobrovsky likely to land in FLA
- Isles are the favorites on Panarin, could perhaps get Varlamov as their goalie.
