So she made the leap from "ask the coaching staff" to "altercation"?

WTF
I don't think she made the leap. Her source told her of the "altercation" and she ran with it. I think she just now asked Dobson... for whatever reason

It was mistake for her to run with it in the first place then.  She looks really amateurish here.

Par for the course these days, unfortunately. Be first no matter what. Retract, clarify, backtrack later... just be first!!!

Of course, "loud disagreement" doesn't rule out insubordination via a simple refusal to do what McD asked {e.g., missing a meeting, not reviewing film, half-assing or walking out of a drill, etc.}.

When did you stop beating your wife? The report was loud disagreement..now you're saying they need to specifically deny each and every possible type of insubordination?

Remember last year when the narrative was the rookie receiving corps and how excited we were when they had a year under their belts with Brady?

That was awesome.

SMY said on radio that "mouthed off" was the exact quote her source used. She may have been wrong but can't fault her much here. She also backed out publically when some other media members won't.

Closer than you'd like
Is it better or worse that this report is false?  If it were true, he'd be missing time because he's an immature idiot like many talented receivers.  The report being false means he's not good enough to beat out any of these terrible WR's or even be more useful than the 4th and 5th RB.   Having Bill deny this report is sort of a back-handed compliment.  "no he's not a discipline issue, he's a terrible talent"

I thought the same thing. I prefer Young's version to the "can't beat out Brandon LaFell" version.

She also apparently didn't consult with Dobson before running the story, probably because if she did and he denied it it makes for less of a "gotcha!" story.

She's a dolt.

Yeah, I give her credit for admitting she was wrong.

I also give Bill credit for issuing that statement. Normally they never comment on media reports about internal affairs, even when the reports make Bill or the team look bad. But this is a case where the report mainly casts a bad light on the player and could damage his reputation and cost him dollars in the future. Its nice they made an exception here to protect Dobson.

Am I wrong in thinking that BB doesn't usually make comments (especially this strong) regarding rumor?
He is feeling butt hurt these days as well. So if he has a chance to nail them on an error, he is not going to pass. If they were 4 and 0 and looking good, BB would breeze past this. He'd view it as beneath his dignity to respond.

He put out a statement defending the character of one of his players.  The false report was never about him; I don't think anyone's going to fault a coaching staff for benching a guy for mouthing off.

... sort of. Saying "sources can be wrong" is different from saying, "my source was wrong."

I spoke to Dobson for a couple minutes. He heard about the story, immediately spoke to Belichick about it to express concern.

I think Belichick would normally ignore something like this, but it bothered Dobson so BB went to bat for his player. He doesn't get enough credit in this area; when's the last time you heard him throw someone under the bus? It's always, "we need to play better, coach better."

I think in particular Belichick probably agreed with Dobson that this was the type of story that could permanently impact Dobson's reputation, and if untrue needed to be corrected immediately.

A strange season in many ways.

Don't think the response had anything to do with records.  BB used to defend Moss from this kind of shit as well.

Someone should have followed up with if it was a football reason why did your team only dress 3 WR, was James White really that critical to the game plan that seemed rather pass heavy to begin with?

Something tells me the truth lies somewhere in the middle.  There is simply no way James White makes this a better team than Dobson/Thompkins right now.

We all know the answer to that. "We dressed the players we thought would give us the best chance to win." He's never going to give specifics. It's been 13 years now, people shouldn't expect anything by way of explanation.

All this does is reinforce what I already believed - if a receiver does not "get it" and make a connection with Brady within a year or so he never will. See Amendola. See Dobson. See Thompkins. There is no switch to flip.

Just confirming you mean the Amendola with 10 catches on 14 targets in his first game before getting hurt.

The number of catches Edelman has had in each of his full years in the league.

The "sources can be wrong sometimes" drive-by on accountability is just another passive aggressive way of blaming someone else for her own shortcomings.  Between blaming the coach for being aloof because he doesn't humor her empty headed questions and thoughts and spending more time complaining about how the Patriots do things instead of covering the team, she's first at being last.

Of course. That being said, you'd think that if a guy like Edelman got it right away, he'd see more of the field than just to receive 7 catches one year.
He got it enough to put up 98 yds in the first game he played his rookie (vs Jets week 2, Welker was hurt) and 100+ in week 17 game in Houston game where Welker tore his ACL. I think it was more injuries and lack of opportunity that kept those numbers down.

"Injuries and opportunity" - couldn't the same be said of Amendola? Dobson?
I think Amendola made an impact when he had the opportunity last year (622 yds in 12 games = just under 850 yds over 16 games), but he hadn't done much this year with his opportunity (though there was an interesting theory in another thread that Amendola is the deep rout and Brady doesn't have the time/is too skittish to make it to that point in his progression). Dobson showed enough potential last year to make you think he would take advantage of the opportunity this year, though he got hurt enough to raise red flags. This year he has done nothing with his opportunity, as a healthy scratch.

People keep saying this but it's not just 3 WR, it's 3 WR and Vereen and Tim Wright. That's 5 guys who can line up at WR, plus Gronk. Vereen and Wright are not necessarily better WR than Dobson or KT but they can do other things too (theoretically).

If you've decided that Edelman, LaFell and Amendola are your top 3, the other guys are only seeing the field in 4 WR sets (which might see Vereen lined up wide) or in case of an injury, so it makes some sense to go with someone who can provide value elsewhere. As it was Amendola only played 28 of 50 offensive snaps.
