My hope is that he’s gone but they need owner/board approval before officially announcing and are scrambling to get the i’s dotted the t’s crossed.

If he’s got a couple years left, maybe they’re trying to figure out a way they can fire him without paying him. Either that or like CShea said, they need a board meeting this afternoon to finalize it or something. Either way, there’s no way they can let this guy continue coaching.

I'm sure they're just doing due diligence and/or giving him a chance to resign, which would avoid a legal battle over his remaining contract.

Why even wait to fire him? The Flames have been disappointing as it is.
The Flames’ direcord makes this an easy decision...there was buzz before this broke that he was at risk of being fired.

Now if a few legal dominos fall in the right places they can be off the hook for his salary.

With Babcock gone and Peters near-gone, due mainly due to underperforming teams (if the Flames were 19-2-2 the PR machine would be working itself very differently) maybe there’s a correlation that that coaching style maybe doesn’t WORK anymore...

Carcillo's twitter feed is a wild ride in general. He means well and is trying to do the right thing but it can take some crazy twists and turns.

Calgary sports talk radio is pretty much on standby for the Peters firing announcement...not a single voice expects him to coach another game for the Flames.

I don’t know about other sports, but hockey has a real vile frat-like hazing system with a ton of sexual abuse perpetrated. I’m glad to see it coming to light.

Makes me even more happier we have Chara wearing the C...

https://theathletic.com/1350951/2019/11/04/why-the-bruins-dont-haze-the-first-year-players/
As a young hockey player growing up in Czechoslovakia and later in Slovakia, Zdeno Chara was hazed and bullied. Acts occurred that he does not want to discuss in detail, but he decided then that he would never treat anyone in a similar fashion — ever.
That’s one reason Bruins newcomer Cameron Hughes did not skate a lap or two on his own at the start of the pregame warmup Monday night, something that has become a rookie ritual on many teams in the NHL. Not in Boston. As funny, juvenile or harmless as it may seem, Chara believes it’s unnecessary.
“I’ve been through some stuff and had to do certain things as a young player, and I didn’t like it,” Chara told The Athletic. “Right then I made up my mind if I was ever in control of that kind of environment and could make a change, I would do it.”
****
Hughes, 23, a native of Edmonton, informed his parents of his pending NHL debut on Sunday, and they were in attendance during Boston’s 6-4 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins Monday night at TD Garden.
Knowing the culture on and off the ice for the Bruins, Hughes was able to concentrate on the task at hand and not worry about one silly hazing ritual or another.
“Yeah, it’s pretty awesome,” said Hughes, who had to explain to his dad that the Bruins do not participate in any of those ridiculous practices. “They make you feel comfortable, and that’s how it should be.”

Just all kinds of other paragraphs full of quotes oozing leadership. Wonder if The Athletic/Joey Mac would consider making this a free read. Feels like a lot of people could benefit from it.

You're very correct about that side of hockey culture...while poorly phrased, Jess Allen's controversial statements on The Social (Canada's version of The View) about young players being "white boys" and "bullies" aren't entirely wrong. They're based on a real stereotype - which while like all stereotypes isn't universal, but also didn't come from nowhere. Go into any high school or junior high school in Canada, and you'll see a gaggle of the boys who play hockey at a high level walking around with a certain swagger and arrogance. Sometimes it's a healthy confidence, but sometimes it's just being a dick...and that line gets crossed a lot. The one place she was way off base was the part about "white boys"; the non-white players are just as capable of being arrogant pricks as their white team mates...

Picture the Letterkenney hockey players, with a dark side.

And maybe I'm misreading it, but sending a guy out for a warm-up lap on his own on the occasion of his first NHL game sounds like a kind of cool ritual, not an embarrassing hazing thing...

I think part of it might’ve been the travel culture. It’s different now, but I don’t remember the other sports having as much traveling or unstructured alone time with young players as hockey.

Don't know if you read the article or not but it continued..

Public incidents of hazing have declined across the major sports in recent years, as the culture at large has begun to shift its feelings on the uglier forms of the practice. But in most quarters, the “harmless” types of hazing like the solo skate still persist. The reality is, however, sending a newcomer onto the ice by himself doesn’t help the nerves he’s already dealing with when making his NHL debut before family, friends and thousands of strangers. Chara believes younger players appreciate the professional culture in Boston.
“How can you expect something out of a young player on the ice when you treat him differently off the ice?” Chara said. “I believe in certain acts or behaviors, and it’s a standard for me that we’re not going to be using anything against anyone.”

And Hughes' quote shows he obviously appreciated it. I'm certainly not going to question Chara's leadership.

Lousy attempt at an apology from Peters. In this letter to Brad Treliving, he lies about immediately apologizing to the team and Aliu. Aliu’s version is he went to the team captain (Jack Dowell) who approached Peters. This led to an Aliu/Peters meeting where Aliu says Peters did not apologize and in fact restated the racial slur. Peters also didn’t acknowledge the reports of physical abuse towards players when he was in Carolina. Rod Brind’Amour confirmed these stories today.

Anyways, lawyers are still lawyering but seems like a resolution on his job status (fired) could come tomorrow.

Also, on the Carolina side of things, former Hurricanes owner Peter Karamanos said if he was made aware of the incidents involving his players and Peters he would have fired Peters immediately. The player leadership group (Hainsey, JM Liles, Staal) took this up to then GM Ron Francis who appears to have squashed it.

Francis is now the GM of Seattle. They don’t play for another 2 years, should be on GM #2 shortly.

Not excusing Francis one iota, but hopefully teams going forward will have special liaisons and protocols put in place, from pros on down. It's shockingly pervasive in hockey, and from my conversations, is attributed more to team building than fraternity hazing, which most participants seem to acknowledge is meant to be degrading.

Like, I've had conversations with victims/perpetrators where they've insisted that elephant walks or drinking/eating their teammate's semen wasn't sexual and not even hazing, but just something to help the team get closer. Even the frattiest of frat boys usually realize the conduct is inappropriate and bizarre.

Something I haven't seen linked here yet are the "graphical standings" made by /u/FourFeetOfCurl . Great way to visualize trends and how much better/worse some teams actually are.
