Luis Gil just left the Scranton game with a possible arm injury, although he was 86 pitches in.

Ruben Rivera Redux?

Yankees release former 3rd round pick Jake Sanford for allegedly stealing and selling teammates' equipment:

Sanford, 24, was released by the Yankees last week, reports nj.com. At least part of the reason was that he was stealing equipment from teammates and selling it, per multiple allegations. The story started to spread rather quickly on social media in the last few weeks, as some fans started to post messages saying they were scammed out of money in alleged memorabilia sales by Sanford.
A bit old for a prospect at 24, but he still put up a solid .285/.356/.467 line at A/High A. What a waste. Signed with an independent league team.

Gammons talking about Will Warren again in The Athletic today (please hire someone to proofread his columns):

“ Look at Will Warren, which the Reds have done. At this time last year, he was a small right-handed pitcher from Southeast Louisiana University waiting to see if he got drafted. Because of the work of area scouts Nick Leuzinger and Mitch Coloran, the Yankees took Warren in the eighth round. The organization put him on a training program to build 20 pounds. They worked on maximum usage of his body. They fine-tuned his slider into another whirlybird. And this spring, in his first full pro season, he’s shot up to hitting 98 miles an hour, his slider has gone to a seam-shifted weapon, and he’s already at Double-A Somerset and opening eyes. ”

AA Somerset with a big game today, tied with Hudson Valley, last game of the first half of the season, playing each other and the winner wins the first half and gets a postseason berth. Volpe drove in the first run of the game in a 0-0 tie in the 7th with a bases loaded HBP and just won it in the 10th with a walkoff two run HR.

No, he is 27, 28 in October. NY grabbed him in the minor league rule 5 from TB before 2021 (not the regular rule 5) and he looked good in AAA last year. Someone might have taken him in the regular rule 5 this year but that was canceled. He has been up and down in performance in AAA this season, clearly the last two games are ‘up’. He will likely be dealt this month as a complementary piece.

(I did that all without looking anything up, I might need to spend less time following the Yankees.)

NY's record allows them more latitude in when to make moves, Florial hasn't had 350 ABs in a season since 2017. I hope they don't trade him, he is the kind of guy they should be targetting to trade for right now, for 2023 and beyond.

Austin Wells has been great all season in high A, crushing offensively and improving defensively. He sat out for a few weeks with an injury, played some rehab games at low A, but today he finally got promoted to AA. He does not have to be protected on the 40 man yet this winter, so NY has time to let him develop still.

Also mlb.com redid their top 100 prospect list today, 5 NY players in the top 75:

Anthony Volpe - 8
Oswald Peraza - 40
Jasson Dominguez - 41
Austin Wells - 74
Ken Waldichuk - 75

NY’s high A team scored 9 runs today on just 5 hits. How? 10 BBs, and amazingly 11 SBs without being caught.

So Jon, what's the deal with Keiner Delgado. The dude has been full on beast mode. One would have to assume he is not 145 pounds anymore

You probably know more than me, I just know that he has been crushing in the DSL for 100+ ABs.

Will Warren continues to impress, 7 scoreless innings in AA today, just 5 ERs allowed in his last 6 AA starts (1.35 ERA). Again, he was an 8th round pick just last summer.

Oswald Peraza getting more and more comfortable as a young player (just turned 22) in AAA:

A couple of defensive plays from the past week or so, I am not sure NY has ever had a defensive SS that could make this first play (maybe Didi for his first year or two? Alvaro Espinoza?):

Also that could open a spot in high A for Jasson Dominguez, who has also been crushing.

Not sure what his pitch limit is (he has to be close to done), but Clarke Schmidt is pitching the best game of his career right now. 5 perfect innings against Worcester on 66 pitches, 11 Ks!!!

5 0 0 0 0 11

Out after six perfect, 6 0 0 0 0 11. I think Domingo German might be pitching for his Yankee career tomorrow.

Everyone talks about Volpe and Peraza and understandably so, but Oswaldo Cabrera was the AA league MVP last year and has been red hot in AAA since returning from injury. He was slashing .326/.414/.596 in his first 104 PA since his mid-July return, and that was before this HR just now, he also had a two run triple in the 1st.

Maybe he or Peraza will finally be called up depending on how long LeMahieu is out for.

Everson Pereira gets overlooked a lot in discussions of Yankee prospects, a CF who was promoted to AA a few weeks ago. He is almost exactly the same age as Volpe (both born in April 2001, yes we are all old) and outproduced him as teammates in high A last year.

Volpe has spent the entire season in AA this year and Pereira just got there, but he is settling in nicely. Tonight he hit a grand slam early in the game to put Somerset up 8-2, and then when the bullpen gave back the whole lead and it was 9-9 in the 9th, he hit another HR to give them the 10-9 win. He has a .807 OPS in AA now, he turned 21 in April.

Trey Sweeney (NY’s #1 pick in 2021) promoted to AA, with Volpe in AAA and Peraza in MLB now.

NY has two teams left playing in the minors, the AAA team missed the playoffs (barely) and their season ends today, the AA team won their first playoff series and tonight is in the deciding game of the championship series, 1 game apiece. They are facing the Tigers' AA team and Ty Madden, DET's #1 pick in 2021. They knocked him out very quickly and just kept hitting, 9 runs in the first inning capped by Jasson Dominguez's 3 run HR, his second hit of the inning.

Feels like most of the Yankees top prospects are now in the upper levels of the minors. Can't really remember a time like that, especially with this many potential impact bats right on the cusp of helping the big club, or currently helping the big club (Cabrera, Peraza).

Am I wrong in feeling this way?

Those are two different statements, so not sure what you mean by the last sentence there, but I'll answer both.

Feels like most of the Yankees top prospects are now in the upper levels of the minors.
Yes, although 1) a few of them were late season promotions and it's not certain they'll start at the higher level next year and 2) they do have some very high ceiling guys at lower levels still, Roderick Arias, Spencer Jones, Brando (formerly Brandon) Mayea (who will sign in January). Cabrera was never a big prospect, FWIW, but he blew up last year and has kept it going this year after a slow start (bad April, hurt for 2 months after that).

Can't really remember a time like that, especially with this many potential impact bats right on the cusp of helping the big club, or currently helping the big club (Cabrera, Peraza).
Not sure about this one, but the Judge/Sanchez/Gleyber/Severino group from about 5 years ago was pretty damn loaded, plus Frazier/Andujar...
