OBJ signs with LA Rams. Wait, maybe the Packers... no it is the Rams.

Does Mac seem like the type that would let any of that affect him? His demeanor seems pretty level. Almost robotic.
This is where I'm at. Mac is incredibly poised and we hear a ton about his control and respect of the offense and his teammates. Combined with BBs leadership, OBJs bullshit isn't much of a concern for me.

Now you've got people looking up flights on FlightAware. There is a private jet flying from Cleveland to Providence leaving just before 11 AM.
Ugh. I have seen things about a flight from Teterboro to Norwood this morning because he has been in NYC over the last week. Social media is the worst but I can’t look away.

FWIW, per my anecdotal recollection Russini - while not quite a machine of stories like some of the other national reporters - is reliable in her reporting of transaction developments.

E.g., she broke the Saints trading Cooks to the Pats.

Andrews would threaten to break OBJ's neck and that would be that.

Cases against those 3 teams
KC: second fiddle to Hill, playing on a 5-4 team in a better division than the AFC East, Mahomes does not look like he has in recent years.

NO: Much worse QB situation than Pats, they can't offer more than the vet minimum.

GB: second fiddle to Adams.

GB is the only situation better for him than the Pats IMO.

To what end? Nobody really has money to throw around, doesn't it just come down to his preference?
Well, this isn’t really true, at least not in the way it was true when he was on waivers. Any of these teams could give him a decent chunk of change by negotiating multi year deal that reduces the cap hit for the 2021 league year. That wasn’t possible when he was on waivers because any claiming team had to find a way to absorb the full 7.25M under its cap to be awarded OBJ. That’s why a team like the Saints cried poor; they couldn’t claim him at that cap number.

Anyways, I am skeptical this is a tactic because OBJ’s agent could - if they’re even in the running - just tell the Pats they need to up their offer.

The Saints make 0 sense from a football perspective, but I really can’t hate on the guy if he’s holding out for Rodgers or Mahomes.

Cue multiple "OBJ is a locker room cancer/washed anyway" posts (including a few possibly from me).
Here's the thing. I think OBJ would have been a net positive. But...i still like the trajectory. I dont think the problems with the Chiefs get fixed by one WR.

GB ... he COULD put them over the top.,

The only draw to the Pats is his admiration and respect for Belichick. The Pats are 5-4 and have a rookie QB. I wouldn't blame him if he chose KC or GB over the Pats.

If he signs with KC I can’t wait to see him blow up on Andy Reid when he’s not getting the ball. He would be a distant third fiddle on that offense.

Whatever money he gets, it's in addition to his full salary from Cleveland, right? It's not like the 2 million KC (or whoever) gives him is subtracted out from Cleveland's payment?

Yes he would be but....he still has talent, and if teams continue to double Kelce and Hill, OBJ could see a ton of passes come his way there.

He will also likely be motivated, at least for a little while, so teams are probably thinking that they will at least get him at his best for the stretch run, regardless of long-term fit. Everyone knows that he is playing for his next contract.

Yeah, KC makes a lot of sense for him. He’ll have so much open space in that offense.

I think he's OK with being a third option with an elite QB because he knows he'll get open and the QB is good enough to find him. Probably likes that better than being a #1 option with a rookie QB.

But I still think Green Bay is a better spot than KC.

Dunno. We don't know anything about these guys. It cuts both ways.
That's my point? We can't go by what we hear guys are like, we never hear QBs are fragile, hard to deal with or can't handle adversity. With an established veteran you can imply a lot, with a rookie who has no track record in the league the only guys who truly have a clue are the coaches, which is why I said if Bill brings him in I'll obviously trust his judgement that Mac will handle it.

Then let's not assume that OBJ is an issue either. Or that OBJ could harm Macs psyche. After all, we can't go by what we hear guys are like.

Let's lock the thread until he signs. Why give opinions?

Agree to disagree with OBJ being happy as option #3 in any passing game, but I absolutely may be wrong
Can’t imagine he cares much as long as he gets to showcase his skills and see upwards of 7-8 targets / game, which I think KC could accommodate. My guess is Kelce/Hill would see reductions since Mahomes would have a better option to throw to.

I don't think the issue with OBJ is the impact on Mac mentally but I question if he is a fit for a Patriot system that relies on precision and pre-snap reads. All the reports out of CLE, which could be media driven to ease the loss, are that he is a free-lancer and just runs the route he wants to get open. That works much better in GB and KC where the QB likes to improvise much more so than it will in NE where defense often dictates the route based on alignment. Then again he will prob run the routes better than Harry but I think Harry is just a run blocker at this point of his Patriot career, don't think OBJ can run block like Harry can.

Anytime you have a chance to play with Trevor Siemian and Tayson Hill as a WR to up your value for your next contract, you have to take it

From 2017-2019, Beckham's 2019 season was ranked #13 in terms of a receiver getting bigger separation than expected. See: https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/our-new-metric-shows-how-good-nfl-receivers-are-at-creating-separation/

His last 29 games (from 2019-2021), his per-16 game averages are: 116 targets, 63 receptions, 875 yards, and 4 TD. Not mind-blowing numbers, especially the catch percentage (just 54.3%).

But he's still a big name, and he's still pretty good, and the Patriots need more good players. Suddenly NE could throw a 3-WR set of OBJ, Bourne, and Agholor (or Meyers) out there and that looks a lot better. OBJ is still someone that opposing DCs need to pay special attention to, or he'll kill you.
