OBJ signs with LA Rams. Wait, maybe the Packers... no it is the Rams.

I would watch whatever Kim Jones has to say on this topic very closely. She's been tied with OBJ's camp from his Giants days.
She's been all over the map as well. On Tuesday, it was possibly Wednesday. Then yesterday (Wednesday), it was a few days away. She did retweet the Kendrick Bourne quote about the whole Pats locker room talking about it (via Chris Mason).

The reality is that Odell hasn't made up his mind yet and is likely conflicted by what choices he has. If Tom Brady needed a WR1, this thing would be over by now. He's left with role player on a contender or more substantial role on a possible contender. Given his situation, he's right to pause and think.

What's the story on OBJ's actual skills at this point? I haven't seen a minute of a Browns game in a couple of years - soon to be amended - and don't know where he stands, talent-wise. Is he 50% of his prime? 60%? Appreciate any insight.

RapSheet on NFLN: OBJ looking for a place to play the next 2-3 years.

Not that he'll get that sort of offer, but does that change your opinion as to whether Patriots should continue pursuit?

Not for me. That's the perfect length for an OBJ stay with a particular team.

He might get that offer, but that might take GB out of the running. They haven't paid Adams yet.

And no, if the money works, I'm fine.

If Bill can make the money work, I'm all for this. Not so long a commitment that we're screwed forever if it doesn't work. If it does work, we get more than run with him.

All depends on what kind of money he wants.

If you can sign him for 2022 on reasonable terms, it could be a good thing.

Overall, I think this probably helps the Pats' chances of landing him. GB and KC are both in cap hell going forward and may be loathe to make another substantial commitment.

Sign me up for OBJ's age 29-31 seasons at reasonable money given how awful/reluctant we are at finding/developing WR talent.

Yeah, I’d be surprised if GB gives OBJ guaranteed money over several years, having not extended Adams yet. I’m also not sure KC - who have Hill’s contract up after ‘22 - is gonna lay out serious guarantee dollars for him. SEA similarly has to extend Metcalf - who as a second rounder isn’t eligible for the 5th year option - or franchise him after ‘22. The Saints are in a horrendous cap situation, so hard to see them caving here.

I don’t think a multi year deal is inherently problematic, it’s all about the amount and structure, ie, how easy will it be to get out of the deal and is early 30s OBJ worth the cash.

I read this leak to really be about ‘give me guaranteed money past 2021’, which I take it nobody has. I think he will have to blink and take a prove-it offer, ultimately.

For context, Randy Moss was older when the Pats traded for him in 2007. They got 3 pretty damn good seasons from him.

I’d prefer a prove-it deal and am a little surprised his agent wouldn’t want that too (unless OBJ is broken down and wants the money before everyone else realizes that).

A little surprising. Thought OBJ would try to build his value up over the last half year and get more teams in on the bidding come the offseason.

As we know it's not the years but the guarantee money and I'd be a little concerned with giving him a large guarantee at this point.

Participation trophies aren’t what they used to be in this town.
Hey, either you are capable of setting an NFL record for WR TDs en route to a perfect 19-0 season or you are not. Moss had his chance and failed miserably.

LOL at "failed miserably". Time for the obligatory reminder that Brady missed one of the years that Moss was here, and then the defense aged out quite drastically in 2009.

And Moss has no bearing on whether the Pats should pursue OBJ. Pats won 2 Super Bowls thanks to having one of the best tight ends to play the game. And Playoff Edelman is better than just about any of the current pass catchers. Talent still matters.

Moss was also probably the most talented WR of all-time and had the production to back it up. I see no comparison between him and OBJ at all, and I'm frankly surprised this thread has been so active today.

I'm agreeing with you. I think OBJ is the one confused and her reporting different timelines is actually what's happening on his side. If the multi-year thing is real, that's another wrinkle indeed.

I mean, @BigSoxFan was clearly joking, right?

Broader point, I do agree that Moss is kind of beside the point here other than being a bit of a reclamation project as a very talented but disgruntled receiver.

Agreed. I think OBJ is probably a little surprised by all the interest in him after he passed through waivers and wondering if he can leverage it into a multi-year deal. But unless they were concerned he wouldn’t play for them at that price, if a team didn’t want to bite at ~$7M/1 yr I’m not sure why they’d bite at multiple years at bigger dollars.

3 previous seasons (2004-2006):
42g
305 targets
151 rec (49.5%)
2,325 yards
55.4 YPG
15.4 YPC
24 TD
7.6 yards/target

He wasn't all that great prior to the trade. The numbers are pretty damn similar actually:

OBJ 2018-2020:
35g
300 targets
174 rec (58.0%)
2,406 yards
68.7 YPG
13.8 YPC
13 TD
8.0 yards/target

OBJ 2018-2021:
41g
334 targets
191 rec (57.2%)
2,638 yards
64.3 YPG
13.8 YPC
13 TD
7.9 yards/target

That Rams team is already good. This will add to their cache of weapons. I just have little faith in Stafford in a big spot.

Seems like a good match - he probably wanted to be out in CA and liked the offensive situation. Probably wanted to be there all along, but needed to get a better offer.

Rams and Packers make the most sense. Good QB and offense. Contenders. Room to shine. Packers probably a bit more, but in both scenarios he's #2 at best with existing superior alphas. Thoughts Packers made a lot of sense since they're weaker after their #1.

Soo between those posts, it appears that the Rams thought they had a deal ...Schefter went with it...but OBJ was still thinking about it.

Or they agreed verbally and then OBJ’s agent had to be like “nm jk, give me a minute here!”
