OBJ signs with LA Rams. Wait, maybe the Packers... no it is the Rams.

There are gonna be some mouths to feed issues. Kupp is their Edelman/Welker, he’s the engine and will get a shitload of targets. Stafford really goes to the guy a lot, and they is/should not change for OBJ. And Robert Woods is a great number 2 receiver.

I think this could get tricky.

Woods has better hands but I think he moves down to #3 now

How do the Rams have any cap space? And also not sold on Stafford.
They’re at about 2.5M under the cap, it shouldn’t be an issue. He might be getting a low salary, or they’ll add another year (maybe a void year) to spread the cap hit out.

That Von Miller trade was expensive in terms of draft picks given he is a pending FA, but that was because they got Denver to eat almost his entire remaining salary this year so LA could fit him under the cap.

Makes a lot of sense.

Also proves that all these media mouthpieces dont know fucking anything. The Rams weren't mentioned as a destination until he was signing on the dotted line. Pretty embarrassing showing for some of these insiders.

Really feels like the AFC playoffs will be the Thursday night equivalent to the NFC Playoffs acting as the Sunday night football super matchups.

So what is the non-OBJ news that Schefter teased?

So Woods needs to pull a Blount-like protest and get cut?

I don't actually care about OBJ but I do hate the Rams approach to team building.

My initial feeling is I want this team to lose its first playoff game. I would enjoy that.

They play Monday, so maybe he suits up? Hard to see a sizable role, but some routes and designed plays to start making him happy.

The 49ers don’t have a secondary right now (they’re honestly not sure who is going to play one CB side or S — they’re hoping a totally hobbled Ward will be available but doesn’t look great and they’re backup got hurt last week).

great game for OBJ to get into.

I’m the opposite, I really like that there’s a team in the NFL that is doing something very different.
Yeah, I like the Rams. But they sure are piling up players well past their prime.

OBJ doesn't help this team. Their WR core is literally stacked with talent. This can only result in sadness. I look forward to it.

Yeah, I love the GFIN moves of other teams. Makes it really fun for the neutral observer. The playoff games between the Cardinals, Bucs, Packers, Rams, and Cowboys are going to be nuts.

And... if the Pats can somehow make it to the Big game, they only have to meet one of them.

It's actually kind of funny the Rams released another me first, supremely talented but disappointing player in DJax and now they are going for another me first, formerly talented player in OBJ. The Rams love the sizzle.

Kupp is maybe Edelman + Welker. He’s having an historic season.

Beyond what is presumably a small commitment, having WR depth is good, especially in the time of covid. Keeping other potential playoff teams from getting cheap WR depth is also good.

Great move for the Rams, great move for any team looking ahead to the playoffs.

Yeah, Rams didn't have Kupp last year against the Packers and really struggled. Adding OBJ gives them a fighting chance if that nightmare scenario plays out again. They'll worry about Van Jefferson's feelings later.

Ironically this strikes me as a NYY win more type move because they already have great depth at WR. Their third WR, Jefferson, has a bunch of talent. 27 catches / 16 YPR. There's a non-zero chance he's better than 2021 Beckham. They don't really need to be four deep at WR.

Worked ok for one-time Ram coach George Allen and the "over the hill gang" in DC (1 SB appearance lots of playoffs). I'll leave it to the wizards among us to trace the lineage from George Allen's GFIN to this one (if it exists)

McVay is only signed through 2023. If the Rams start looking old and can’t get themselves out of cap jail, maybe he bolts. He’d still only be 37 and probably would be the biggest coaching free agent maybe ever.

I would love it if a media member did a deep dive in layman's terms on the Rams cap situation over the next 2-3 years

Kupp is also 6’2” and 200 pounds and blocks like a mother trucker. The Athletic guys were talking about him last week. They said he isn’t just an exceptional route runner but he fully understands the offense and what is going on holistically and what he needs to do/sell on each play. He is one of many WRs who I wish they had drafted as a brilliant and shifty route runner with good RAC and can block. Kupp is a treasure to watch.

Edit: Did you know he’s so good as a blocker the Rams use him like a tight end? I’m so hot for Cupp.

One year deal with little bonus, low salary and plenty of incentives. Type of deal, I think most were expecting before late reports of multi-year deals being discussed. Have to wait on details to see how likely those incentives are.

According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Beckham's deal is worth up to $4.25 million. Beckham will receive a $500K signing bonus, $750K salary and up to $3 million in team-based incentives.

At firs, this deal felt like it made sense to me. The more I look at it, the less I understand it.

Packers and Chiefs I get. I don't really get this

He lives in LA in the off-season and wants to live that lifestyle. That all seems important to OBJ.

Plus a good quarterback/offense even if he doesn’t get a ton of touches

Indeed. Odell historically has never minded times when he's not getting a lot of touches.

Pure speculation, but given how many "and the Patriots are still in" -style comments there were around the same time the multi-year report surfaced, I wonder if Bill was the one offering multiple years. Or maybe that was OBJ's price to pick NE over the 1-year LA deal.

ESPN and NFLN media leaning heavily into the ‘HOW DID OBJ TO LAR COME TO BE’ angle, it’s nicely drowning out all the shitty NFL news (and some shitty NFL reporting). Much better to spotlight how Cooper Kupp and Robert Woods said hi to OBJ on FaceTime.

Signing looks timely now -

Robert Woods hurt his knee at practice Friday. He went down, got up, finished practice, conducted interviews with the media after, nobody thought anything wrong…and then tests discovered later that he tore his ACL, per sources.
The OBJ curse strikes quickly. Sucks for Woods. Really good player. But this is exactly why you add guys when you have the chance. Kupp, Jefferson, and OBJ is a nice trio.

It took one day for OBJ to start screwing up the locker room. It is amazing.
