Maddison with the last-second dive to get suspended for their game with Leeds. 0-0 final. Boring-ass game.

Why aren’t there more chyrons in soccer coverage? I realized the other day that I missed my steady stream of information - “five saves in last game,” “last won at Anfield in 1999,” etc. If it’s a Brit thing, why doesn’t NBC/USA do it in its coverage, at least?

I’m not sure it would even have to be overlaid - there’s ways to mess with the proportions and such so that the bottom few inches of the TV could be dedicated to chyrons without it running across play. I leave that to the graphic designers, though - I’m just wondering if there’s a reason every American sport does it and soccer doesn’t.

I can’t think of anything I’d want less on a broadcast than part of the screen taken up with meaningless statistics. Just let the game breathe. NBC’s resistance to copying the US’s broadcast styles has been one of their biggest strengths.

An interminable VAR review on what is a very easy to spot handball in the box using a different angle. This as a simple one, but took forever.

Goal Rush is shown on a smaller screen, but its all the scores and live table to the right

anyhow, time to buy a lottery ticket: Wolves scored a goal

What a day for VAR. They originally go to look at a handball on Traore on his own box, but instead give a PK for Matheus tackling a Forest player in the corner kick scuffle.

But Sa saves the PK. What a mess.

Spurs 0-0 Everton at the half. Everton were awful first ten minutes but Spurs never seriously threatened. Been pretty even since, neither keeper troubled, Gray and Onana both in on deep runs on counters and both blazed wastefully 30 feet over the bar, Richy did the same at the other end.

A goal probably opens things up a bit. Everton really need help at striker, nothing new there, Maupay has been MIA today.

Good to see Dominic Calvert-Lewin back on the pitch. Is he going to get a sniff at goal though? So far Spurs are looking awfy comfortable. Everton need to get in aboot em.

Not all his fault, hadn’t been getting service. But he’s just too small to get by those massive CBs

Toffees much more solid defending but still need to be better progressing into attack. We’ve had some nice finishes this season but not enough chances

Spurs have played well. I like Everton's central defense and midfield, but today their play on the wings was lacking and they haven't been able to provide the kind of service required to beat a Conte side. Their two best chances have been more from Spurs mistakes.

Agree except I would not say Spurs we’re all that good except the first 10 and last 20. For most of the game they didn’t control the proceedings.

Commentators run on complete autopilot. Talking about Spurs as a countering team after they had over 60% possession and outshot Everton 20 - 4. It’s embarrassing when you notice it.

Tottenham had like, 64% of the possession, outshot Everton 20-4 and had 7 shots on goal and conceded zero. That's pretty good to me.

If a team not managed by Conte has those stats they call it dominance.

Arsenal lineup for Leeds is out:

Arsenal line-up to face Leeds: Ramsdale, White, Saliba, Gabriel, Tomiyasu, Partey, Xhaka, Saka, Odegaard, Martinelli, Jesus

Good sign to see Jesus in there as his availability was in doubt.

Saka with a lovely goal with an extremely tough angle to give Arsenal the 1-0 lead. He may have started the season a bit slow, but he's been on fire recently.
