Showalter was pretty pissy about being asked about Britton. Maybe don't make idiotic decisions if you don't want to be questioned about it.

Britton is among the top 5 pitchers mentioned in the AL Cy Young discussion. He finished with the lowest ERA in the history of baseball for a minimum of 50 IP. At the absolute latest how was he not brought in to face EE? He should have pitched the 9th and 10th. This may actually be worse than Grady Little. He's getting skewered all over the internet. What a complete moron.

Pedro also wasn't second guessing saving Britton. It's old school basebally to save your closer on the road.

At least on MLBN they are rightly ripping the decision.

Announcers unanimous along with all of us. On TBS, MLB & ESPN their jaws are hitting the floor wondering why Britton didn't play in this game.

Gibbons asked about it and rightfully wouldnt take the bait.

"I'm not gonna get into that."

Pedro is defending this. I love you Pedro but no. This was indefensible under any circumstances. Holy shit that was a bad decision.

Remember, Dempsey is the guy who said the Orioles were right to keep challenging Mookie because he's not a home run hitter.

Josh Gibbons quoting Rush Limbaugh. Like I needed any more excuses to hate the Jays.

You know, the dumb thing - beyond the incredibly dumb concept that a tie is less important to protect than a lead - is that using Britton with a lead guarantees you only get one inning out of him. In an extra inning game you absolutely have to win, you're guaranteeing that you get the least amount possible from your best player.

Remember Mariano pitching 3 innings in Game 7 of '03? They got everything out of him that game and I will always be convinced that if the game had gone another inning the Red Sox would have teed off on the dreck that was left. Buck decided to lead with the dreck instead. It's just...mind-boggling.

"Hey Buck, why didn't you play Machado today?"
"Well, I thought a key pinch hitting opportunity might come up later in the game and I wanted him available, so I held him out of the starting lineup."

That was really fun to watch in real-time, as it unfolded. A full-bore, slow-motion choke and death by a manager.

Unreal. Hendu, great call on Torre with Rivera in G7 '03. That's how you do it, and it won them that game.

Unreal.

“@jaysonst: Buck Showalter says there was nothing wrong with Britton. Just liked his setup men. ”No one has been pitching better for us than Ubaldo.“”

Nobody eh? I can think of one person.....

I mean, you pitched the smoldering remains of what was once Ubaldo Jimenez, what with his five-and-a-half handle ERA/81 ERA+ that has recently been padded by games against Tampa who was already making winter plans versus a guy who had a 827 ERA+? How in the fuck? I mean seriously....

I mean seriously. Best reliever in MLB this year. Bottom of the 11th.

I'm sure Buck just told himself Britton was due to blow one, so it was the right decision to go to someone else.

Yet at his press conference when asked why the didn't walk Encarnacion Buck said "I didn't want to put Ubaldo in the situation of having to throw a strike". If nobody has been pitching better why would be concerned he can't throw a strike?
