And another one tonight. Seguin gets a pinball puck in, but it’s waved off for contact on Samsonov by Marner created by Seguin. Stars challenge and get it overturned, saying Seguin had nothing to do with Marner running into the goalie.

I thought his teammates were calling him "wifi" because his last name looks like a randomly generated wifi password.

Also, this is priceless:

Kessel sets the iron man streak tonight. Against Toronto. I hope he pulls out a hot dog and starts eating it during the game. While wearing a ring on each of his middle fingers.

A question I never thought I'd ask a few years ago, does Phil Kessel belong in the Hall of Fame?
If he finishes with over 1000 points I think that he has a good shot of getting in, and he’s at 958 as of today. There are only a handful of guys with over 1000 points that aren’t in, and add in the 2 cups, and the Ironman streak, I think he’ll be in if he can add another 50 points.

The Knights have an early afternoon game Vegas time today (late afternoon/early evening ET), presumably because today is a holiday in Nevada. Never heard of "Nevada Day" until now. Also, I've never heard of any State having a holiday in honor of its becoming admitted to the Union.

Another Leafs loss to one of those powerhouse California team. They have now lost to four contestants in the Bedard sweepstakes.

They did this last year, starting 2-4-1 before ripping off 15 of their next 17. There does seem to be a little more tension up there than normal, however. Keefe's been butting heads with players and benched Marner last night in the 3rd.

It's always going to be a soap opera up there but nothing will matter in the regular season. It's the playoffs for them.

Yeah I know. Mathews is going to go on a tear at some point but they are leaking goals on D.

Yeah their D was a problem coming into the year plus they are dealing with injuries to Muzzin and Liljegren. Goaltending hasn't totally reared it's head yet but is also suspicious. Samsonov has played well but Murray had 1 disaster start before getting injured and Kallgren has an .875 through 3 appearances.

It'll be interesting to see how this whole year plays out for them. It seems like there is friction between the players and coach. Keefe called out the stars after the Arizona loss and apparently needed to have a sit down with an unhappy Marner afterwards to clear the air. Last night he benched Marner for a long stretch in the 3rd. Can't imagine that's going to help matters. Keefe has a lenghty history with Dubas so I don't see a coaching change in the future. Plus Dubas played that card with this group when he fired Babcock. Additionally, a big story in Leafland is that Dubas is on an expiring contract himself. Even if he did want to make a coaching change, would anyone of note come in to that cauldron and coach for a GM who may be gone after the season?

Tage Thompson is interesting. I'm still not a huge believer. A lot of his breakout year last season was due to a huge increase in ice time and usage and a shooting percentage spike to unsustainable levels (15%). Last season he had 38 goals with an individual xG of 24. So far this year he's shooting...15.4%. I'm not sure I totally buy that he's suddenly a 15% shooter. He played 150ish NHL games prior to last season and was a sub 7% shooter. That sort of spike doesn't genearlly stick around. Ovechkin is arguably the greatest goal scorer and shooter in NHL history and he's broken 15% shooting twice in 18 seasons. Pastrnak hit 17% one year but the last 3 have been 11-13%.

I think the Sabres are getting closer but not there yet. Their underlying numbers are inproved but still bottom half of the league. Craig Anderson has a .946 save percentage so far which isn't going to last. Dahlin has become a monster, finally looking like the generational talent he was billed to be. He's far and away the best player on that team. If Power develops as expected I don't think anybody has a better 1-2 on the blueline than them.
