Playing with Eichel is a draw I'm sure, but the "winning is the most important thing" was apparently blowing smoke up everyone's ass. They'll be better but they are a long shot to make the playoffs.

He's going to put up huge numbers next to Eichel. Then back to the market. That's all I've got. There's also the chance he's being traded again in 60 games.

I'm guessing he wanted to play for Krueger too? I dunno.

The islanders traded RFA Devon Toews to Colorado for 2021 and 2022 second round picks.

You can go over by 10% in the offseason, but I assume they'll move quick here and be under shortly.

Quick math has them $7 million over the cap.

I wonder if the Bruins would inquire on Schmidt. He had a bad playoff run, but he's been a good all-around defenseman the last few years, and I think he and McAvoy would pair up well.

I assume so, but we'll find out shortly. The rumors yesterday were that Vegas had a deal in place with first Winnipeg and then Florida. Both got walked back fairly quick. Winnipeg doesn't have cap space themselves to fit Schmidt in, and Schmidt has a 10 team no trade list. In player survey's, Winnipeg is the most frequent team on players no-trade lists.

Cap Friendly has Vegas over the 10% so they need to do something before they're able to file the contract with the league.

After talks apparently broke down between the Habs and Brendan Gallagher last night, he signed a 6 year, $6.5m AAV extension today with a full NMC for his age 29-34 seasons.

I don't think that's an overpay. He's an elite 5v5 winger. One of the best in the league. He might also be good on the powerplay, but Montreal's has been garbage for years, he doesn't really get many points there.

Here
Doc is the single best PBP of my lifetime in sports, unless we count JR in wrestling. It’s clear he was losing a bit of his slapshot, so to speak, but I will miss him dearly and he was still better than anyone else.

Enjoy retirement, dude!

Yeah, Doc will be missed. Nobody calls a game like he does.

I think Forslund will be the replacement. He's excellent but no Doc.

Well deserved, but bad news for hockey fans. Echoing the sentiments that he is the best out there, one of the few national guys in all of sports that make me enjoy watching their respective sport more, and not less. He will be missed.

His call in the final seconds of the 2011 SCF was brilliant. Talking about how Boston didn't lose to the British and won't lose to British Columbia. Godspeed, Doc. Enjoy your retirement.

I agree on Forslund, but am fearing the top guy will be Kenny Albert.

I don't think Forslund and the Canes were able to agree on a new contract so he may also be preferable to Albert (who has NFL and Rangers duties) in terms of being able to do multiple games a week.

Ugly, ugly story here. The Coyotes top draft pick this year, 4th rounder Mitchell Miller, who has admitted to bullying and racially taunting an African American classmate with developmental disabilities. Miller and others tricked the classmate into licking a lolly pop that they had stuck into a urinal. Miller also apparently taunted the kid with racial slurs for years.

The Coyotes said they were aware of the incident when they drafted him, are sticking with the pick, 2nd chance, blah, blah, blah.

"Don't judge people for things they did at 14" doesn't mean give them a free pass. It means give them an opportunity to explain what they did to correct their wrongs and how they've changed since.

If he has changed, he needs to show it.

If he has not, the Coyotes might be the best place for that opportunity to be laid out.

Either way, this is a case where showing, not talking about change matters.

I think this is right and by all accounts Miller has shown little to no remorse for his actions which went beyond one incident. I'm not saying he shouldn't be given a chance, but I think people and organizations would be well within their rights to not want this guy around.

Maybe he's changed, but I still hope that he never plays in the NHL, and certainly not with the Bruins. My son's 17 -- I can't imagine him treating anyone like that at any age.

There's some additional info and some heartbreaking comments from the victim and the victim's mother:

https://theathletic.com/2162185/2020/10/27/arizona-coyotes-mitchell-miller-bullying-nhl/
Miller has not apologized to the victim, despite that being part of his sentencing. However, Miller did write a letter of apology to all 31 NHL teams. 10 teams took him off their board completely. Others who did speak with him came away unconvinced of his remorse (a common theme, the magistrate who handled his case said the same thing). The victim's mother is furious and wrote a letter to the Coyotes that has not been responded too. Apparently she had considered writing a letter to all NHL teams in advance of the draft but never did thinking that he would not be drafted.

Remember also that the draft happened without their new GM participating (as a condition of him being poached from another team) and post-Chayka fiasco. The person that made the decision to draft him also needs to provide an explanation of his thought process.

I hope the pressure mounts on UND to rescind his scholarship. That he has still made no clear apology to the victim is unconscionable.

It also raises the question: who the fuck raised this shithead?

Below is a statement from the bullied child's mother. I've gone from "I'm willing to listen if he's made steps to fix his wrongs" to "yeah, fuck this idiot". AZ is a dumpster fire of an organization.

The first article that cshea linked says someone had him listed as the 72nd best prospect who fell to 111 because he's an asshole. If there's any solace in any of this, it's that the percentage of (non-goalie) draftees who are picked as "high" as even 40-50 and go on to do anything in the NHL is extremely low. Like much less than 10 percent.

At this point, I don't care about this kid and whether he does / doesn't have an NHL career. In an ideal world, I'd want him to be forced to face the victim of his abuse and muster an actual, honest-to-goodness apology for the hell he's put this kid through. I'd also want him to be forced to spend time with victims of bullying and similar abuse to drive home how destructive to one's psyche bullying behavior can be. That, along with years of volunteer work, is the only thing that would convince me this isn't just another jock shithead using his status as a hotshot prospect to walk over whomever he wants.

Having said that - based on the reports of Miller tauntingly rollerblading by the kid's house even after the court case, and the lack of remorse observed by adults around him, I would be none too disappointed if he were to have his UND scholarship revoked and eventually get Matt Cooke'd in whatever league he washes up in.
