Dodgers probably live another day but hard to see the Padres winning both games left, they have checked out.

Kelenic again. He had a great at bat last time. I’m a little nervous here.

Next time anyone complains about the Sox hitting in clutch situations remember the Ms tonight.

Massive gut punch loss

What a gut punch that game was for Mariners fans. Leadoff triple in the 7th. Leadoff double in the 9th. Neither scores in a 2-1 game.

I feel for Dave Sims. Must win Saturday night.

Kinda feel bad for them in a way. This one is gonna sting for them.
I would if it weren't the Sox in this situation.

To be fair this Ms team sucked most of the year and was getting ridiculously lucky to be in the race until they actually got decent.

Hitting the trifecta tomorrow that lets the Sox clinch and save Sale would be pretty awesome.

The beauty of the game.

Would you save him or go for home field?
I'd save him, but that's because personally I'd take him over Eovaldi for a WC game if I got to choose. I know a lot of people would take Eovaldi, so if Cora would take Eovaldi anyway then you might as well start Sale on Sunday.

Since the pen is short on reliable arms, I would rather have both Sale and Eovaldi available for the Wild Card game. Don’t think potential homefield is worth burning Sale.

For some reason I thought the AL game was Wednesday not Tuesday, that probably makes them lean more towards saving any good pitchers if they've already clinched.

That said it's pretty unlikely they clinch the wild card tomorrow, so it's probably a moot point.

There was a surge in ticket sales in Seattle for this final series. Might be close to a sellout all three games. Although I wonder how many will show up tomorrow if they lose today.

Also, some of the Sox pop ups to first base might turn into home runs in Yankee Stadium, so it could help.

If I may, I'd like to push back against the dominant narrative around the Mariners a little bit. People love citing their -49 run differential (or whatever it is on a given day) without a lot of additional information, but really, they just had a bad month. Most of that was built up ("built down") during a very terrible May when they were -43. They're +6 since August 1.

So okay, yeah, fine, May happened, and you can''t just totally disregard it. But the current Mariners aren't the May Mariners, the team that got no-hit twice in a month and struggled to get above the Mendoza line as a team. The roster is different - the likes of Evan White, Taylor Trammell, Jose Marmolejos, Dylan Moore, Justus Sheffield, Justin Dunn, Ljay Newsome, Rafael Montero, Keynan Middleton, etc. etc. are either gone, injured, or playing a reduced role. Their replacements like Abraham Toro and Tyler Anderson and Paul Sewald have all been big improvements. The players themselves are also different on an individual level: Luis Torrens and, more famously, Jarred Kelenic, have both vastly improved their fortunes at the plate since returning from AAA. Marco Gonzalez is pitching more in line with his reputation since coming back from the IL. Drew Steckenrider and others have thrived in larger bullpen roles. And MLB is different - we're still learning the impact of the Sticky Stuff Crackdown.

TL;DR the Mariners are better than their differential suggests and have been for kind of a while. All that said, while they've bounced back before after being written off, I think it really is over this time.

Ok, but in that time they're +6 they're also 33-22, that's still way above expectation, so the current team isn't a bad team, but they aren't exactly playoff caliber. Take out that one bad month and they're 76-56 with a -6 run diff. I guess sucked is a bit strong, but they weren't good most of the year.

It is just one game they are behind. The odds are against them, and there's no margin for error, and Toronto is probally more likely to win both of their games. But not over.

If the Red Sox lose this bullpen game, it opens the door

It would make the Red Sox odds of winning the WCG a lot better if they can pitch Sale in it compared to a scrub versus a rested Cole.

Well I was thinking along the lines of Jays and Mariners being done regardless so save Sale if you can. But if Rays win then yeah let’s go for it.

Right, but let’s say Yanks win and Sox win. Would they rest Cole? Probably, right?
Yeah, they would if they're smart ... although, in theory, if they lost Sunday, Toronto and/or Seattle could work their way back into the mix

Yankees are 2 up on those teams, if they win today the worst they could be is wc2 even if they lost sunday
