That is not a ton of talent for Utah. But I don't think there was a huge market for Gobert on that deal.

Basically, useful but flawed Beasley, functional rotation guy in Vanderbilt and some likely mid-low first round picks. And Kessler, picked 22nd in first this year.

What's the countdown to the Mitchell trade request? I don't think Danny is going to deal him for Kyrie....

Whoaaaaaaa. Hopefully he and KAT make it work better than AD and Cousins.

Guessing if Celtics want Jarred Vanderbilt as a bench big he's available for a second once this goes through.

I think thats the problem, not a ton of excess value there I suppose.

Interested to see how KAT and Gobert do together.
Fascinating.

I really like KAT, seems like a good dude and IIRC has been ravaged by COVID in his family. I’d love to see it work. Ant is a star as well.

Gobert is such an odd great player in this day and age but you can’t deny his effect on D. But it does limit you lineup-wise to have him anchored to the paint.

That’s one way to fix Towns’ defense problem
We'll see, but I'm skeptical. Neither Gobert nor KAT wants to be guarding guys out on the perimeter. Gobert is a great rim protector, but he's not a very versatile defender, and neither is Towns. I really don't think the two of them are workable defensively, but we'll see.

Yeah, he and KAT are obviously going to play a lot together, along with Ant of course.

It might work but a lot of pressure to find the right fit with the other 2 starters/bench guys.

I guess they won't be finding anyone through the draft.....

I'm really not seeing how this works for Minnesota. Towns' value is that he's a center, if you're going with two bigs they have to both be good defenders.

Is there any possibility of a Towns/Russell for Durant/Kyrie swap?

Wow, so Utah gets 4 first rounders back, plus the 1st they got for Royce. That's a draft haul, even if a lot of those picks will be high teens at best.

Honestly, I'm so happy for Minnesota. I don't know why, but that's a franchise I found myself pulling for.

I truly don’t understand what Minnesota is thinking. They just gave up more than what Atlanta gave up for Murray….and Murray was a pretty perfect fit for their roster. So instead they give up a fucking haul for a guy that doesn’t fit their roster at all

Any time you can trade your 1st round picks for nearly a decade for perhaps the 5th best center in the league (when you already have the 3rd best center in the league on your roster), you gotta do it.

Sure, but if they time-travel and have to play a series in 1990 they are going to be virtually unbeatable...

This is one of the most insane trades I've ever seen, even leaving aside the fit in MN.

So, where does Mitchell land? This is a complete rebuild at this point, no?
Not necessarily. Everyone expected Gobert to be moved this offseason. Not the destination I would have predicted, but trading him was unlikely to bring back a star given his skillset and contract. It was about resetting the team's salary structure.

I thought Mitchell didn't like Gobert. He might not be really upset here.
Yes, and agree Mitchell wanted Gobert gone---it is more about overall timeline. The Ayton rumor makes sense as one path. Danny bears a lot of risk Mitchell asks out here, and accumulating picks won't hit the timeline. So I do tihnk a total rebuild is certainly on the table. And so is using those picks to try and get something else right now

And when teams go small in the playoffs he’s unplayable.
