The Russian pair is married.
And he's at the center of a doping investigation now.

A Russian athlete suspected of failing a doping test at the 2018 Winter Olympics has been named as medal-winning curler Alexander Krushelnitsky...
The BBC understands the athlete has left the village and is in Seoul awaiting the result of the test on the B sample, which is expected later on Monday.

Meldonium, a banned substance that increases blood flow and improves exercise capacity, was banned in 2016.
I believe if the B sample confirms the result and he’s DQ’d that Norway will take the bronze. China would’ve made the playoffs without Russia there.

Of all the sports to dope, curling seems to be one of the last ones where it would help. Then I remember the furious sweeping.

The US women have a bit of momentum and absolutely crushed China, putting up 3 in the first end and 4 in the third end. They are tied for 4th place right now, but have matches with South Korea and Sweden coming up (currently 1 and 2 in the standings), so have their work cut out for them to advance to the semis.

It's not just the sweeping. Strength matters for deliveries (less effort to deliver big weight, I'd guess more core strength makes for better balance on deliveries) as does endurance (being able to repeat your delivery in the last end).

USA Curling had it right not to invite him back the first time. I’m happy for him that he got in shape but this guy is the curling equivalent of the Twins going to the Toilet in October.
When everyone keeps saying he got in shape, we really all just mean better shape, right? Dude is still at least thirty pounds over weight.

Shuster in tears being interviewed by Trenni following the victory over Canada.
I was trying to figure out what he said - something about Dan Jansen? Doesn't he have a bronze from 2006 though (from before he was skip)? The pressure of the Olympics is clearly a problem for him.

Huge win and some terrific curling by Shuster and George. Massive set of games tonight @ 12 AM.
Yeah wow, I'm watching the replay now and Shuster was absolutely on fire. Hope he keeps it up and pulls off the classic Olympic Redemption Story. But I can also totally see him tightening back up now that they've gotten themselves back into it and the games are critical instead of "well we're probably done so I'll just go for it and play loose".

Canada were awful down the stretch and lose a game that will definitely keep them out and may tank the USA women’s chances. USA needs to beat GBR and to have South Korea beat Japan to get into the playoff. Only one spot left now and only two teams left to compete for it.

I think USA needs to beat Sweden and Switzerland needs to beat Japan for USA to advance (for the women at least).

Right, right. Women play Sweden not GBR. I had the men’s game on the brain. If Canada could have beaten GBR tonight, then all USA would have needed was a win to get in to the tiebreaker.

Anyway, it is pretty straightforward now. Women need a win and a Japan loss to get a chance at Japan in the tie breaker. Japan basically gets three chances to advance to the medal round — win today, USA loss, or win the tie break.

USA are through to the semis, GB vs Swiss in tiebreaker (US beat both GB and Swiss in RR so avoid tiebreaker)

Wow. I saw the Brits get two consecutive steals before I went to bed and figured I knew where things were headed. Didn't even consider they'd also avoid the tiebreaker. Would be a great story if they can medal.

US women had a chance to take the lead in the 9th end, but the hammer was much too heavy. And I have no idea what they're doing in the 10th end.

Well if Shuster ever sees me on the street he can give me a nice big FBBBTTTTT I suppose. Still the medal round left to Shuster though!

Russian curler Alexander Krushelnitsky will give his Olympic bronze medal back.

"We have signed a statement that indeed he did have [meldonium in the sample], and as a result, we will give the medal back," Russian Curling Federation spokeswoman Valentina Parinova told state TV channel Russia 1…
Word comes as the International Olympic Committee is due to decide Saturday whether to formally reinstate the Russian team for the closing ceremony.
Krushelnitsky accepts that there was a “formal breach” of the rules and will waive his right to a hearing at the Court of Arbitration. But denies intentionally cheating, and:

Russian curling officials have said that they believe Krushelnitsky's food or drink could have been spiked with meldonium either by Russia's political enemies or by jealous Russian rival athletes who had not made the Olympic team.

Wow, Shuster with the clutch shot and Koe with two bad ones. Steal of 2 and the US is in business.

Now just play for the force and come home with hammer up 1.

By throwing the second one in instead of guarding, the US is definitely playing for the force, not the steal.

Gutsy call. I would’ve straight hit, let them try to blank, and forced them to try to get two in the 10th.
