Just look at the 2000 roster. Gaetti, Sprague, Manny Alexander, Rico Brogna, Midre Cummings. Jesus.
Dan Duquette is a guy I like a lot more than most of this board. But Pedro should be allowed to throw fastballs at his testicles for an hour after putting that team around him in 2000.

Bobby Jenks had very few redeeming qualities. Very bad, somehow very expensive, constantly hurt, and then a DUI. Thanks for showing up!

The 2001 roster wasn't much better (some of that due to carry over). It was incredible that a team centered around Pedro and Nomar at their peaks could bring me to the brink of abandoning them in disgust, but those rosters did (the front office/ownership didn't help and I generally didn't mind Duquette). Thankfully, the team was sold when it was.
Topic came up and I wretched GAGNE. But lots of other great replies here, like Valentine, Pierzynski Jenks, and Wells.
And Garciaparra should be allowed to take a few hacks at his testicles with a broken bat too.
It's hard to accept that we saw two of the greatest individual seasons in Red Sox history completely wasted that year.

Going to Fenway to watch Ed Sprague bat cleanup on my birthday was like a nice punch to the nuts. Lansing played a bit over 1 year, so he doesn't count, but damn...
The only one here I don't really get is Jonny Gomes. And if we're going to stretch the criteria to 1 season +, the standout for me is David Wells, hands down. I still feel dirty for ever rooting for that PoS.

Well, yeah, but this a pretty subjective thread. It's your "least favorite," not who is "the worst." Like Jeff Gray was a decent relief pitcher for the Red Sox and had better seasons than most who came through the Sox bullpen during his tenure (90-91) but I hated the guy. It took him five years to throw a pitch and because I was young I was never allowed to stay up and see the end of a game in which he pitched.
Both of us mentioned that.
I vividly remember working the game immediately following the telephone incident. Strantely enough, I don't remember what I was selling - probably Cracker Jack or Coke - but I remember Sox fans giving it to him pretty good.
That guy is such a piece of shit. Ugh.
He had the uncanny ability to look like an All-Star, except for clutch situations (mishandling or throwing away a routine grounder in the 9th) when he looked like a refuge from a beer league.

I always held it against Don Demeter that he was traded for Earl Wilson (who I was a huge fan of, and who I think would have paired great with Lonborg in '67).

Bobby V's tenure reminds me a lot of Trump's election and subsequent tenure. I recall thinking that Cafardo was out of his mind (per usual) to suggest V as a Tito replacement. With this ownership group, I really thought there was no way he'd be hired. Then, he was and most of us thought immediately it would be a disaster which turned out to be correct. This included open rebellion, leaked reports of in-fighting, insubordination, ego-mongering, the difficulty to get along with other decision-makers, and so on.

Man, Nick Cafardo loved himself some Bobby V. Even when the season was flying off the rails and it became absolutely clear to everyone that Bobby Valentine was not suited to be the manager of this nine, Nick Cafardo was flying the Bobby V. flag high. It was the ownership's fault, it was Cherrington's fault, it was the player's fault, it was even the media's (aside from him, of course) fault. But never, ever, ever was it that charismatic Bobby Valentine's fault.
The dude could do no wrong in Nicky C's eyes.

Boy, I hated Bob Bailey. I think it's reasonable to say that he sucked so bad he cost the Red Sox a pennant and therefore pretty much ruined my life. I also hate Don Zimmer for many reasons, but high on the list is ever using Bob Bailey.

Ramiro Mendoza always had the feeling of an "EMBEDDED YANKEE" as well.
For me it's Craig Grebeck in 2001. The dude hit precisely one single and one double in 43 PA. I understand he was at the end of his career, and he was subbing in for an injured Nomar, blah blah blah. He sucked.
He sucked hard.

And he managed to piss everyone off in spring training with that bullshit with the coaches and then calling out Youk in April.
But my vote still goes to AJP. That arrogant asshole ran his mouth all the time and sucked eggs to back it up.
