Does anyone have a reliable website for the CPBL schedule? And are they always streaming on the Eleven Sports Twitter account?

I've found this: https://www.scoreboard.com/baseball/taiwan/cpbl/fixtures/ but I don't know if it's accurate or if there's a better site.

If that link is correct, the next game is tomorrow at 6:35AM Eastern.

I know Google is my friend but it isn't as easy to navigate as I would have expected.

CPBLstats.com is what you want: http://cpblstats.com/english-guide-how-to-read-cpbl-schedule-on-official-website/

The streams aren't always on the Eleven Twitter account, as they're not the sole broadcasters. But Fubon puts each of its games on its own account.

Having no connection to any of these locations, team owners, or players I'm thinking of picking a team to root for based on mascot - which leads to the choice between the Monkeys and the Brothers (elephant). I'll decide before their game tomorrow morning.

Who is everyone rooting for and why?

I've been using
https://www.scoreboard.com/baseball/taiwan/cpbl/fixtures/ . Seems like it's been reliable so far. The weekday games all seem to start at 6:35 ET and the weekends at 5:05 ET.

I'm partial to the Monkeys, mostly because they've been the easiest to watch, they've been winning, and I think the cardboard fans are funny. But not so committed that something like a Manny signing wouldn't change things.

Live now:

Brothers 5, Monkeys 3 in the top of the 7th

Guardians 4, Lions 15 in the bottom of the 6th

It's been an eventful game. Brothers' starter balked in a runner who was trying to steal home, collision at first base resulting from a bad throw by the Monkeys' starter (which I think would be interference in MLB given that the runner was in fair territory?), and the Brothers have gone on a 6-0 run since the Monkeys' bullpen took over.

And Monkeys trying to mount a rally here in the bottom of the 9th down 5.

Bases loaded, no outs.

The cheerleaders' reaction was incredible. If MLB comes back with no fans, I would do something similar. Maybe even see if these Monkeys cheerleaders can be posted.

The Taiwanese game does seem to have a talent imbalance between pitching and hitting. Or, at least, a different talent balance (a less enjoyable one for me personally as a bigger fan of pitching).

Agree, but beggars can't be choosers.
Yeah, I think it has something to do with NPB siphoning off all their legitimate pitching talent? Or something like that. It was explained in this podcast that I was half listening to while I was working:

https://blogs.fangraphs.com/effectively-wild-episode-1533-its-baseball-oclock-somewhere/
All true and thanks for the link to the podcast. I also dig morning baseball. It's like (a less-exciting) Patriots' Day every day.

The cradle of the game.
Brothers did come back in extras to win 10-8.

Somewhere, in the Brothers version of SoSH, a chicken little undoubtably posted: "Our pen is now shot... worst win of the year."

Why are they referred to as “Brothers” and not “the Elephants”? “Brother” is the name of a hotel that was a team sponsor, “Elephants” is the mascot. (Not callling our SoSHers, everyone seems to do this)

“Elephants” are way cooler, and their elephant logo is fantastic.

Best of all might be “Brother Elephants” with mascot elephants in Friar Tuck robes, I suppose.

Watching the replay of the UniLions game now, and I'm not 100% sure that the play-by-play guy has seen more than a dozen baseball games in his life. He's British and hasn't really gotten beyond saying "he threw a low ball there," and his editorial comments appear to be searing insights like, "The pitcher's looking to get a strikeout here." He also Trupes every fly ball to the outfield. The highlight so far was when the color guy said, "I think he's going to throw a knuckleball here, what do you think?" and the British announcer stammered, "Hmm....not sure" and then pointed out that the pitcher was throwing a lot of low balls that inning.

KBO to ESPN complete! Casey Kelly could be in your living rooms as soon as Wednesday morning. (No idea if he's actually pitching.)

ESPN today announced it has reached an agreement with Eclat Media Group regarding the KBO League – South Korea’s most popular sports league – to exclusively televise six, live regular-season games per week in the U.S. starting with Opening Day – NC Dinos vs. Samsung Lions – on Tuesday, May 5, at 1 a.m. ET / Monday, May 4, at 10 p.m. PT. One game will air each day, Tuesday through Sunday, generally on ESPN2 and on the ESPN App. The telecasts will air Tuesdays-Fridays at 5:30 a.m. ET, Saturdays at 4 a.m. ET and Sundays at 1 a.m. ET. The Lions vs. Dinos Opening Day telecast will air on ESPN, following SportsCenter with Scott Van Pelt.

Can we update the thread title?

Seeing that Matt Williams is managing the Kia Tigers, I'll be rooting for whichever team happens to be playing against the Tigers.

Tuned in to this first KBO game in time to see two players on the Dinos hit back to back home runs, the second one with a solid (if overly commented upon by Ravech) bat flip. Taking an early lead in the race to be my team in this league.

I also watched it. Weird seeing the empty stadium. And the traditional first pitch was delivered in contactless fashion by a child in a round plastic bubble* made to resemble a baseball that the kid walked in to deliver it to home plate. I hope that's not the only kid I see in a ballpark this year.

(*shoutout to John Travolta, the original boy in the plastic bubble.)

It won't be. The CPBL is planning to start playing in front of 1,000 fans in a few days.

So who is our KBL team? I did a little googling and our own home towne team Red Sox has some sort of agreement with the Seoul Kiwoom Heroes, who finished 2 games out in 2019. They've won their first game this season.

They appear to have a roster of 35 players, with salaries ranging from rookies making $25k to former Atlanta Braves pitcher Jake Brigham making $800k (in his last MLB appearance in 2015, he gave up 9 hits and 8 runs in 1.2 innings to the Yankees, so I'm sure he has no love for them).

The visiting Kiwoom Heroes took the season opener from the storied Kia Tigers 11-2 behind cleanup hitter and former MLB player Byung-ho Park ’s 3-5, 2 RBI day, including his first home run of the season (he “parked” one!). Tiger pitchers surrendered 12 hits and 6 free passes, while Heroes starter and former Atlanta Brave Jake Brigham pitched 3.1 shutout innings while striking out 2, walking 2, and recording a 56 game score. The Heroes banged out 6 extra base hits in the game – Kiwoom goes the dynamite! Game time was 3:18 as the team combined to use 10 pitchers. Our Heroes are back in action against these same Kia Tigers Wednesday, May 6 at 4:30 EDT. Their victory vaulted the Heroes to the top of ESPN's Power Rankings (really).
