Yeah, I don't like telling people they don't know what they're talking about, but if you don't think Mayweather was trying to win, you don't know what you're talking about.

He completely neutralized Pac.
Pac knew he needed a KO in the late rounds and it seemed like he didn't come close to figuring out how to get to Floyd

Question for actual boxing guys: Would this fight have been any different if it took place a few years ago before Manny got KO'd?

How do boxing fans stand watching Mayweather?

The same way some baseball fans like a 1-0 game.

If you just see guys get knocked out then just watch MMA

Exactly.  I love boxing and can appreciate Floyd for the fighter he is, but it's really not enjoyable to watch for all but very, very few fans of the art.  My brother is there, and I watched this fight with about 15 of the most rabid boxing fans you will find, and the one thing that we all took from this was just how predictable it was.  Fight was never, not for one second, in doubt.  Floyd is a magician, but he's not someone that is going to get the masses back to the sport.  If anything, this fight will likely have the opposite effect, and even though I should be one of the guys defending boxing and defending this type of fight, I can't argue with the casual fans who were bored by it.  It was boring.  There really isn't much way around that.

Man that was so exciting to watch that fucking cocky guy walk backwards and dickpunch/headlock the other guy! So glad I gave a shit.

Technical brilliance!!!!

No.  Seriously I've probably watched 20 Mayweather fights.  I get what makes him so good.  This fight sucked.  I thought his skills looked eroded and he looked less dangerous... hit with less snap and power than I've seen.

Skip Bayless says Manny should've won and it was announcer bias that led to it going the other way.

Can we get him in a boxing ring?

Not a boxing fan but a sports fan and tuned in for this one.  This isn't going to bring anyone back to boxing. NFL draft held more drama today. I guess you have to be a boxing superfan to appreciate it.

I still don't understand how these guys didn't fight 5 years ago.

Attacking the strike zone vs, ???? Backing away?

Backing away is avoiding the punches. He's a defensive fighter. I completely get that you don't like it, and it's "boring" but that's his style.

Why would a fighter that's taller and with a longer reach engage Pac up close? To entertain the masses?

Floyd Mayweather is the wrong person if you're looking for somebody to "save" boxing.

One, he's a piece of shit.

Two, his style is not conducive to exciting fights.  He's for people who love boxing, not for people looking for fireworks or big knockouts.

Have you seen Pedro pitch? Just going off your analogy, son.

I wonder what people would say if Mayweather and Sweetpea Whitaker were contemporaries and fought.

Pedro who? No need to be condescending when you clearly aren't a huge boxing fan.

But yeah, the analogy is that there is multiple ways to win....with an offensive display or a defensive one. Not everyone appreciates a 10-7 football game either.

Son.

EDIT: Our posts have more action than the fight!!! Where's our $100 million?

In the simulacrum
This was a boring fight, for sure. I don't understand the scoring but watching the fight it is hardly obvious that Floyd won. He spent the whole night dancing backwards. There should be points for being the guy willing to actually engage. It is boxing, not ball room dancing.

Hey boxing, see you in 15 years.

because most people watching the fight were hoping for pacman to knock mayweather's head off and instead got a solid 12-round boxing match.

I don't know if I'm enough of a boxing guy to answer, but Mayweather was always better than Manny. However if this fight had been a while ago I think Manny was more capable of knocking a guy down/out. So it would probably have been a better fight.

Kellerman basically laughing in Manny's face is the best thing about this fight.

Kellerman held it together pretty well. I scored 1 rd for Manny and only see 2 as plausible. Floyd's toughest battle must have been ignoring Floyd Sr. in the corner. To the guys not impressed, why watch? This is like a pitcher going against a murderers row and striking them all out for the entire game.

As a sports fan, I can appreciate Floyd's evasiveness and the way he dictated almost every round. The let down comes when everyone who follows boxing seemed to know this is what would happen, and they helped turn it into boxing's last great cash grab.

Did Manny know that the fight ended after round 12?

It is not tough man, the name of the game is hit and not be hit.

Not a great fight. Not an awful one. Manny never figured out how to close on Floyd. He's never been much of a jabber and couldn't get it going here. He had some success wjth the straight left, but couldn't sustain it. I said all along the difference in the fight would be Floyd's straight right and that proved true. Once he started with the hooks it was over.

Manny had a chance I thought to win after the first 8 or 9 rounds, but Floyd was flawless down the stretch.

Yeah, this is a streetfight to satisfy the average man's blood lust. But this isn't true boxing - true boxing is what Maywether displayed this evening.  And I say that as someone who was rooting for Pacquiao.

It wasn't a let up. It was tactical. Floyd's defense was perfect. No point punching yourself out if you're just hitting gloves and arms.

Let me guess.  Money Mayweather is saying September will be his last fight....he'll string it out for a bit just like he did with this fight to drum up PR./interest....then come back to set the record and one last massive cash grab, and go for 50-0 against...?

Hey Marciano, what did you think of Lomachenko? It was the first time I saw him and the way he cut angles impressed me. Is he as good as he looked tonight (I don;t know how good the opponent is thought to be)
