I don't think I've ever seen a deal of this magnitude that left nobody with questions.

This is just a great fucking deal. Period.

Pastrnak is 26 years old, just entering his prime. The contract will run him through his age 34 season (when he should still be a good goal scorer). He's a monster offensive player.

Love it.
Added to that, for the next two seasons after this, they also have Carlo, and Marchand, who aren’t nothing.

Next year, you start with a team that’s a lot in place, even without depending on Bergeron/Krejci.

Pastarnak/Marchand/Zacha/Coyle/Hall
Debrusk/Greer/Frederic (rfa)

McAvoy/Lindholm/Carlo/Grzelcyk/Forbort/Zboril
QFT

What a great fucking time to follow this team.

Alright, Sweeney. You did your job for 22-23. You've put a great team on the ice for this season and signed your biggest asset long term. Take a month off, because when this season is over you are going to have some SERIOUS work to do putting together next year's squad.

I think he's counting on the recruiting edge that defending champs enjoy...

Absolutely. But just looking at capfriendly, the raw numbers for next year look grim (and honestly, I don't even care right now.... finish the season then worry about it). And I'm not even saying it as a bad thing, just that it's hard not to see some names moving out over the summer. 2 years out there will be more space, and the Pastrnak contract will start looking better and better.

More or less just saying I am happy with the contract and the fact that Sweeney has put it all on the line for this run.

Incredibly exciting. Incredible deal. Incredible team. Incredible opportunity they next few years.

Sweeney sucks though because he missed on those 3 draft picks 7 years ago.

deep inside Guido territory
“His deal is right in between Rick Nash’s 2009 deal ($7.8 million, 13.7 percent) and Corey Perry’s 2013 deal ($8.6 million, 13.4 percent). With all due respect to both players, Pastrnak easily clears. When Nash signed he was a 3.2-win player, ranked 26th in the league. When Perry signed he was a 3.0-win player, ranked 19th in the league. Not surprisingly, 2.9 wins is the average expectation over the life of Pastrnak’s current deal — an expectation he should easily surpass. Pastrnak, right now, is a 4.3-win player and should average 3.7 wins over the life of his deal. That’s worth a cap hit percentage of 16.9 percent or $14 million per season after factoring in how the salary cap is expected to rise over the next eight seasons. An $11.25 million deal is a steal.”
