Hmm, that’s actually quite a handsome set — makes me think I more of an intrinsic issue with the silver (we’re an AFC East team, not Dallas or Oakland) and with graphic excesses like the obnoxious repetition of the helmet logo on the shoulders than I do with navy blue or Flying Elvis per se.
Yeah, that's a great look.

IIRC, one of the main reasons they got rid of Pat the Patriot was because of the complexity of the design and need for multiple colors to print properly on merchandise. The NFL pushed for something simpler for the league merchandise that necessarily included all team logos.

That may or may not be an issue 25 years later and with changes in cost/production of screen printing, etc.

Pardon an obtuse question: Is this a leak of what we're going to see Monday, or an unofficial, photoshop thing from the internet?
Photoshop. Nothing has leaked, but they have said it is a minor change and I 'm pretty sure they won't be changing the helmet color.

Yeah, you're right. The only thing that the Patriots had going for them, at that time, was the best logo in football if not sports.
Elvis also almost entered the building fourteen years earlier.

While I agree a change would be surprising given the success/tradition of the last two decades, is there any basis for this - or just a gut feeling?

I don’t think we can necessarily rule it out. And, given the one shell rule is still in place (at least through 2020 if not beyond), a change to white would open the door for the Pat Patriot throwbacks which, just from the posts above, remain popular.

Just that all the leaks seem to indicate that it is a minor tweak (and focused on "blue" as the teaser did). It's possible that they go to white helmets, but I don't expect it. Especially with rumors that the NFL is considering a change to the 1 helmet rule anyway.

Just saw this from Reiss, which I missed last week: “The Patriots' uniform change is expected to be subtle.”

Agree that sounds like silver helmets stay.

My guess based on these comments is that the red alternate is coming next year.

NFL rules state that teams can only use one helmet for the season, and silver helmets have come to represent the modern era of the New England Patriots. A silver helmet with the "Flying Elvis" logo just doesn't work with the red uniforms, which, of course, feature a white helmet with the iconic "Pat Patriot" logo.
Ferron did leave the door open that, if the NFL ever changed the rule to allow more than one helmet per season, the red uniforms could certainly make a comeback as the team's alternate.

"Our primary uniforms in the modern era have been blue and white and they will remain so," Ferron said. "We recognize that fans also have an affinity for the red 'throwback' uniform and we hope to incorporate that into our uniform rotation in the future."

One of my all-time favorite jackets was my Pats one from Sears with the red trunk and faux leather blue sleeves and blue buttons. I'm sure if anyone is over 40, they certainly got this (and a matching pom pom hat) out of the Wishbook one Christmas during their youth.

As successful as they've been in the current togs, I thought the 1976 uniforms were perfect, particularly the all-white road ones. I wore a red Grogan jersey from that era that my dad got me one birthday all the way through college and beyond until it fell apart.

They definitely need another set of pants.

The silver now feels out of place since it doesn’t show up anywhere else on the uni.

Just here commenting strictly from and aesthetics standpoint:

Agree that the blues are a good looking jersey and would look better with white pants.

The stripes on the white would look better as just red and white stripes. The blue stripe in the middle isn’t a great look, IMO.

My guess is white pants come with red jerseys next year if/when they relax the helmet rule as rumored. I think the white helmet would have been a better look with both jerseys, and been a bigger change than the jerseys themselves.

As with all things twitter hates it.

However.... I like them quite a bit. though I agree that they make it even more obvious that the helmet is an afterthought. I would really love the helmet to be any of the 3 team colors they have consolidated to, white, red or navy.

They’re great except the stripes on the white. Should’ve been blue white blue or red white red.

Feel like this set screams for white helmets, which would've also allowed for the throwbacks to return. I like the new roads though.

On their own, the stripes are a big upgrade. As a part of the whole ... it just doesn't seem like anything matches. "Hate" is a strong word, but they definitely fall short of some of the options presented in this thread.

Like it - but silver pants and/or white helmets would improve the away, as would some silver on the uni (maybe incorporated in the shoulder stripe?). I’m also slightly disappointed with the typography- thought they’d move away from the Brady-era font but in a more distinctive way.

It’s odd, I like the overall look very much but as a fan I also feel like the change gives them “permission” to go 7-9 and miss the playoffs.

I hate the mojo of dumping the uniforms they wore for 6 super bowl wins, immediately after Brady leaves and everyone is shoveling dirt on the team anyway.

Also, these are not great.

Of all things, the socks are an improvement. It’s a more modern look without going full Ravens black socks/black pants.

Less is more. I prefer these to the previous edition, 'championship mojo' not withstanding. I'd say I'm surprised to see so much disappointment from the cross section of fans here, but I'm not.

I feel like the center stripe on the epaulets should be much wider than the stripes that flank it - more reflective of the jersey number/outline.

And yeah - a silver pants option needs to be available. The all blue look reminds me too much of the Saints' and Ravens' all black look.

Looks like the number font has been changed as well - notice there is no bottom portion at all to the number 1, and how the bottom piece of the number 2 is wider than before.

Noticed another tweak. On the numbers on the old road jerseys there was a red outline, then white, then the blue numbers:

On the new road jerseys, it is red, then silver, then blue. Helps tie in the helmet a bit.

Yet another thing I noticed is the Elvis has a silver outline on the new road jerseys. It just kind of floated there before.

I'm pretty indifferent to these uniforms. By far my favorite look is the Pat Patriots red ones, and the Pats never won shit with those. I also note that the Pats went blue shirts/blue pants in the game against the Packers in the 2002 season, lost and then didn't go blue on blue for years thereafter. So blue on blue always evokes that memory for me.

All that aside, these are enough in the zone of acceptable that I just can't get very worked up.

They actually wore them in back to back games in 2002 - GB and Denver. Lost both. There's a story out there about BB being pissed at Milloy and others because priorities were out of order. I was at that GB game, it rained, we got killed, and it sucked.

Me too. Parts of them I like, parts I don't like, but I don't care enough to really...well...care.

Just win baby. THAT is something I care about.

It's going to be wild when the 2002-2020 era unis come back as throwbacks in 5 years and everybody loses it.
