I'm not buying that he forced his way out. I'm sure that's what some in management are saying now that he's signed with the Patriots, but the transactions don't line up. They cut him to make room for Gilbert coming off his suspension. I dunno, maybe there was someone else they could have cut, but it doesn't pass the smell test.
Anyway, this may turn out to be the best $58,000 the Patriots have ever spent. The Steelers really have trouble keeping their dirty laundry in the cabinet.

My friend, who is a Steeler's fan got this Steeler calendar for Christmas.. He already tore out January lol.
If they didn't want want to cut him, they should have wanted to cut him. He played 40 snaps on defense, clearly wasn't the primary backup if Watt or Dupree got hurt, and doesn't play special teams. It was just a bad use of a roster spot.
And everyone was as cool as a cucumber when Parcells signed with the Jets.

Well for one, Parcells was writing his ticket out of town during a SB for a franchise that was the laughingstock of the league looking to win it's first SB. That's a lot different than a backup linebacker maybe squeezing his way out of town with a storied franchise in week 16 that had no room for him anyway.
Nevermind that Harrison played his whole career in Pitt, won Superbowls and earned a level of respect that Parcells never did.
But a narrative that has come out in the last 48 hours is that he’s selling state secrets to a rival, right before the playoffs no less, and did a 180 in the locker room. Parcells reportedly spent his Super Bowl week focused on the Jets job. Just like if Parcells had left for the Bucs, the reaction would be different if Harrison signed with the Packers.
And you are disengously downplaying Parcells stature with the Patriots when he left. He was viewed as the man who ended the bad days of the Patriots. That’s why people went ape shit when he left.
And one was cut by his team while the other met with another team during the Superbowl week behind his owner’s back.
And selling state secrets? Seriously? They’ve played the same defense for 25 years. And if it’s really that big of a concern, don’t cut him. Or play him.

Happy holidays to you too. My point is you asked someone to distinguish the Parcells hate from the Harrison hate. They did, then you countered by saying there was this "narrative" that Harrison was selling state secrets to the Patriots. I haven't seen that narrative anywhere but an article about Ben's wife being worried. Do actual football fans think that James Harrison has any intel, and that that intel is at all valuable given that we just beat the Steelers, like we always do, with them playing the same defense they've always played? I mean, if it works like that, I wish we'd signed more Giants and Broncos players in the last ten years, because those were the only teams beating us in the playoffs. Maybe we could've brought Ray Rice in for some Ravens intel on how they busted out 80 yard runs on us.
Well look at it this way; on the one hand, his knowledge of US history, specifically the Battle of the Alamo is woefully pathetic, but on the other hand, him referencing the Alamo is spot on as the game will in fact be the Steelers Alamo.
So he's got that going for him, which is nice.
I think there could be some low level intel gleaned from a player who was very recently with an opponent, but linebacker isn't really the spot that would help you much more than film would, I wouldn't think.
The guys you'd want to get late in the season in the intel department are special teamers. It's the unusual plays that don't get practiced every week that could be valuable -- fake punts, directional kicking, and onsides plays. Stuff where the other team would probably feel compelled to make changes when they should be doing other things.
Getting a key offensive player that knows some of the two point plays might be helpful too -- at least in forcing the opponent to waste time to make some changes.

Yeah, in the end you'd probably be stupid to rely on the other team keeping stuff, but maybe the point is that the fear of intel gathering may affect your opponent a little. Maybe they are afraid to use that awesome trick play. I dunno, but week 17 is a point where I could see some minor advantage given that the trick plays have probably been locked down for months and there aren't unlimited practice hours in the day. Put it this way -- I'd be a bit concerned to learn the Ravens, or whoever looks to be lining up as the divisional opponent, had access to Allen or Gostkowski.
In the end, though, Belichick has it exactly right. It has nothing to do with the Jets. There is tough football still to be played and nothing close to a guarantee these teams will face each other. And the idea that James Harrison is a guy with the seven secret herbs and spices is absurd.
