Undrafted out of UW. Made the Bears active roster last year and ended up starting 3 games. Don't know much about him, but a little unusual to see a move like this so early in camp.

Edit:  Seems like a "trading from a position of strength for position of weakness" move.

Wells was projected to be a big-time special teams contributor, not so much on defense. I wonder whether he wasn't panning out as expected, or whether someone else (or a couple someones) are better in the kicking game than expected and made Wells expendable. Could be a little of both, I guess.

Most likely BB asked Chicago who they liked from tier x. One of the Bears FO spoke up for Wells (perhaps a scout liked him, and/or they had Wells on their board), and BB said okay.

I can almost guarantee he will be in the goal line package as fb if he makes the team ( 2 games at fb as freshman)
