So, tell us the reasons why the Pats will have trouble attracting free agents, when the evidence indicates otherwise.
Lol what evidence, if this team struggles good players won't be coming here and that is a fact, like it is for any 500 to sub 500 team!

We had a good run and now we get to see how the other side lives more than likely, i just don't see things going well this season.

There are many of us in this forum who lived through the ugly dark days of the early 90s. Believe me - we know how the other side lives.

I think he is talking about the FA spending prior to last year when the organization spent quite a bit after a 7-9 season. I'm fairly certain the team in 2020 was without Brady but had no problems during the free agency period in 2021.

Your second statement makes some sense if you are under the age of 25.

Yeah. NFL players never sign with the team that offers the biggest contract. I can't remember the last time I've seen it.

Yeah, that was a particularly strange comment considering we're literally a single off-season removed from the Patriots throwing around a ton of money and signing guys to top of the market deals.

What they won't get are the kind of guys Tampa has been signing (veterans on one year deals), but that's fine, I think those are way more valuable for teams built to contend right away.

I fucking hate this “Oh, it was great but now we’re just like everybody else” nonsense. Maybe it’s true? And I get that we had the best quarterback/player to ever play the game to make it possible. But we still have the greatest coach ever on the sidelines and a quarterback who actually seemed to understand how to play this game as a rookie. So much so that the naysayers got all upset when Bill kept the training wheels on in crunch time. Meanwhile, this team won 10 games and probably could’ve won 13 (Miami/Dallas/TB) when a ton of doubters thought they were shit coming out of camp.

Maybe it all goes to shit, but I’m excited to see where it goes.

Also:
I'm not going to link all the tweets, but it sounds like the offense had one of their best days of the summer today
Josh doing his old pal Bill a solid with the media?

Yeah, at the end of the day, non vet ring chasing free agents are generally going to take the best offer. If Mac is good, people will want to play here if the $$ are competitive. And if he's not, we probably shouldn't be throwing that kind of money around anyways.

The other side has 2-14 years and picks QBs in the first round in multiple drafts. This side has the greatest living football mind and has had one losing season since Bill Clinton left office.

Yeah people forget that as bad as that playoff game was, the Patriots went 10-7 with a rookie quarterback and a LB corps that was maybe the slowest in the league and Jakobi Meyers as its leading receiver. They beat Buffalo (11-6) once, Tennessee (12-5), and the Chargers (9-8). They came within 2 points of beating Tom Brady and the Bucs (13-4). They lost in OT to the Cowboys (12-5). They lost on a Damien Harris fumble in week 1 against Miami (9-8).

I mean, the team had, and has, holes, but they were EXTREMELY competitive last year. Going into last year, 98 rookie QBs started 10+ games and only 12 made the playoffs in the HISTORY of the NFL. Mac Jones made 13.

Exactly. Sure Mac could even take a step back for any number of reasons (trying to be more vertical this year, JMCD leaving, unproven LG, etc.), and they're still like a 7-8 win team. That would be a letdown, but it's not like the old days. I'm not sure that Belichick could produce a 3 win season if he tried.

When the poll goes up (if it hasn't already), I'm voting 10-7 and feeling pretty good about it.

Yeah, as much as I'm not as high on this team as some here, I can't imagine them winning less than 8 games, with 10-7 being far more likely than 8-9, in my view.

Yeah it's hard to get past the fact that they have the best coach and that in football, that counts. He went 7-9 with Cam, 10-7 with Mac, and 11-5 with Matt Cassell. There's a lot of "yeah but" rebuttals in the can here, but Cassell went 10-5 officially here and 26-40 elsewhere. He's still Bill Fucking Belichick, and even his strongest distractors don't question his coaching.

I'm probably more concerned about a step back defensively. The D finished 2nd in scoring and 4th in overall D; we could probably expect some regression even before they lost arguably their best player (JC Jackson) without really adding much of significance. They were able to win some games (LAC, ATL, CAR, first Bills game) where the offense really didn't do much. I'm not sure they're going to be able to do that this year.

The offense last year was weird. They finished 6th in overall points, but almost a third of their point total came in three games (2nd Jets, CLE, JAX). They didn't have many true stinkers, but they had a bunch of mediocre efforts. I expect the offense numbers to look kind of a similar this year, but hopefully with more consistency.
