I want to be excited, it just feels SO weird now :( I'm sure I'll get in the swing of things but for right now I still kind of feel like I'm in mourning for some reason.

These guys are going to have to earn the excitement. It's fun thinking about potential and a fresh start, and honestly with Bill (and Mac) gone being a fan is less stressful, but unless the new regime can put out a good product, attention is going to be less than recent years.

Less attention might be a good thing for a team with a rookie HC and rookie QB. For me, I’m pretty excited to see what Maye can show early on as well as to kick the tires on Milton’s raw talent. Aside from that, really looking forward to watch Polk and Baker at WR. Also curious to see what Marcus Jones looks like coming off the injury. Very exciting player who we haven’t gotten to see much in a long while.

On the negative side, I’m expecting an OL shit show and hope to be proven wrong.

What's awesome, is I can still enjoy this and be excited and you don't need to be.

The "level of attention", however you're describing it, is pretty meaningless to me as well.

I'm honestly looking forward to seeing hopefully a full season out of Gonzalez. He was flashing legit lockdown skills.

I'm more excited than I should be for those guys, will see if the new training camp can get them through a full season this time

unless maye is a star QB right out the box u have 3-4 win talent overall if he is a star year 1 that can double to 6-8 wins

Didn't see any updates but:

1) Maye has a chance at being QB1 (not a surprise)

2) All players reported to training camp - including Judon

Reporting to camp means nothing anymore. There aren’t hold outs anymore because of the fines. They are essentially hold in’s now. Whether they practice tomorrow is another story.

PUP list includes Cole Strange, Kendrick Bourne, Sione Takitaki (recovering from knee scope in the late spring), Jake Andrews (unknown, but missed June mini-camp). Offseason signing RB Antonio Gibson was placed on the Non-Football Injury list (undisclosed).

Strange and Bourne were expected to start the year on PUP. IIRC, Strange hurt his knee early and missed all but 2 days of training camp, played through the injury while missing a couple of regular season games, and then injured his ACL in November.

The first coach post-BB and a brand new shiny QB on the sidelines are going to get a ton of attention. They might not get a ton of national attention, but this team is going to be the center of the Boston media attention come this Fall.

I don’t believe I wrote that they wouldn’t get attention, merely that it would be a good thing if they didn’t get as much attention as Pats training camps normally get.

Notes from the #Patriots first day of training camp:
- Jacoby Brissett was QB1 and had a couple impressive connections with Austin Hooper
- Drake Maye was clearly QB2 once team drills kicked off. Had some overthrows deep, but his connection with Jalen Reagor was the play of the day

- Pop didn’t participate in team drills, so Ja’Lynn Polk spent quite a bit of time with Brissett
- Calvin Anderson and Caedan Wallace both repped next to Onwenu, with Anderson taking the lead
- Lotta Kevin Harris and JaMycal Hasty with Antonio Gibson out

- Davon Godchaux and Matt Judon were heavily involved
- Marcus Jones was active in the slot
- Jon Jones and Alex Austin looked like the top outside corners opposite Gonzo
- Jaylinn Hawkins looks like the 3rd safety behind Dugger and Peppers

You think a 300lb. lineman is going to easily fit through that? Sign me up.

Bedard was super critical of the offense's training camp performance and coaching in the past two seasons and they turned out to be indicative of their in-season production. It's not like he's always done this either. Of course, one practice doesn't mean anything in isolation, but I think it's a valuable perspective. At the very least as valuable as the Mark Daniels of the world and their "QB X went 15/18 in team drills today, yippeeee" approach.

Cultural hub of the universe
I mean do you want him to lie and tell you everything is great?

We always have had the glass is half full reporters here, not much to be positive about right now so it should be expected.
Why is there not much to be positive about? Maye has looked good, hearing good things about Polk, even Thornton had a good day. The line is in flux but they don't even have pads on yet. Personally I'm pretty excited to see the young talent on offense.

Because it is 2 days into training camp without pads so far.

They are doing nothing but basic light practice crap right now, we will start to see what is what next week when they prep for the first preseason game. Remember this guy is a beat writer not a fan like you, he is writing about what he is seeing and it is not much at all right now and by design.

Bedard is a doofus.
He very well may be, but the idea that the Pats OL which is among the worst in the league on paper has issues or the WR’s - young guys and mediocre veterans dealing with a new system - have issues probably isn’t indicative of him being a “doofus”

Awful talent, new coaching staff and a lot of young players. There’s no reason to think the offense will be any good. Especially this early in camp.

It’s my favorite time of the year where only negative things can be true of training camp. Nothing positive is real because “the pads haven’t come on yet“ but all the negative takes are 100% accurate.

It's called filling time, do you want Bedard to talk about how awesome the handoffs have been from Maye?
